Hi everyone- Scotty and I were talking and I want to keep the heat functioning in my Six when the 3.2 goes in. I found these heat exchangers:

They build to suit, so I am thinking I can get them to accommodate the 3.2 without much trouble. I have sent them a message but not heard back yet. Is anyone here running these or seen them in person?

I think Johnny blackstain has an uninstalled set. Bought a couple years ago. I called the company last year and they were responsive to my question and seemed to know what they were talking about. They are at the top of my list for heat exchangers for my 6. They do have welds in the heater box but I expect to die from other causes first.
As long as they're not the Billy Boat ones. (B&B) The fit on those is somewhat problematic.

The great, great pity—if true—is that SSI did ALL of the work to produce 914-6 heat exchangers just as nice as their 911 and 914-4 heat exchangers, but never produced them for two reasons:
1. The owner of SSI didn't think there was a big enough market for them.
2. He couldn't quite get one side to be true equal length. I am told the discrepancy is so negligible as to be no performance detriment.
The owner has since sold SSI to Dansk or some overseas company, but I hear that he got to keep all of the 914-6 tooling and specs he prepared. I wonder if there wouldn't be a way to get a group buy going to convince him to make them? There are a lot of us who really want a good solution, and nothing beats SSIs when it comes to heat exchangers.

Sure there is a lot of interest, but who many of the interested are ready to drop 2500.00 + to have them made ? I'd say there is a good chance Dansk would make them, but if it were my business I'd want orders pre paid before I started production on such a limited run. So who's ready to drop the dough and possibly wait half a year + to get their return ?
$ 2500.00 is a tough nut. I would want more details. (real price for a group buy, delivery, shipping,etc) But wouldn't it be nice to have a new set of SSI's instead of patching up some old rusty nasty OEM set?
I threw out 2500.00 as a set for 911's run around 2000.00 I'm guessing a bit more due to the small audience, and the extra expense in materials ( longer tubing ) Plus we are now talking about shipping form Denmark to U.S. which 'taint gonna be cheap. I'll try and contact them this week to see IF they have any intent or interest in producing them, and if they do, what would the price be for "X " number of guaranteed sales. I would however like to see at least 10 people in for it, before contacting. It would probably help the cause to be able to say I have X amount of people truly interested. this is why I would say to plan on 2-2500.00. I guess I'll start a poll
I'd be concerned that Dansk would produce a product as fine as the 911 HE's. Also, that they will look very close to originals.
There are probably as many 914 6 's on the road now in the US as there ever were, but many are conversions and are strictly toys for performance. Heat ? no thanks... most would opt for an oil cooler. And need larger pipes.
I want this very badly based on the quality of the original 911 SSI's.
Do I need them on my good weather car ? No, I have some very good originals. They'll probably outlast me.
Maybe I'm over thinking this.
If they are made I'll have to choose between keeping good originals or selling them to buy stainless that will outlast us and our cars.
I'm in up to $2500. And please! at least one larger ID choice for our bigger engine cars.
Based on $2,500 and close to OE in looks & function, I'd go for a set.
Don't hold your breath... Let's just say that certain people have a history of promising a lot with no intention of delivering.

Sorry, been gone...but I understand that the 914-6 tooling/SSIs were not part of the deal to Dansk. Whether John can be convinced to follow through—or sell the tooling to someone who would—is indeed the issue. And yes, he is a very talkative guy. But I'd still take his setup, which is apparently thiiiiiiiiis close to turn-key, over ANY of the other offerings, and that includes NOS factory heat exchangers. Last set I had a line on had the friend's discount...of $4000. Heated seats looked better to me. So did freezing.
I wonder how many sets sold it would take to move the needle on this. I'd put a $200 deposit down tomorrow if I had a sense the job would actually get done. Full $2000-2500 with nothing to show for it? No way...

Marty knows how to get stuff done, has standing in the community, and certainly knows a bit about the market for parts for these cars. I was told that the SSI 914-6 exchangers are production ready but one or both sides missed being true equal-length by some tiny—and essentially irrelevant—amount, and that annoyed John no end. I could care less...I'd rather have heat than that last bit of power. Right now, it looks like the British stuff is the best way to go—at least to me, anyway—but I don't like the welds, and I'd rather buy SSI quality, made in America.
I too would prefer to keep my $ here in the USA, I really want some excellent SS heat exchangers for my car.
Haywood and Scott have been building SS exhausts for as long as I can remember, know their stuff and build some nice systems
That said I have SSI fitted to my 911 that are still superb 15 years later & more than happy with the quality
As a Brit I know I should support home grown engineering firms, but if SSI's were available I would buy them any day over H&S
Plus you have exchange rate, shipping and import duty to consider with H&S. I come over fairly frequently to the US and have to admit to putting parts in my luggage including a set of GT callipers I bought off Mark to avoid such nonsense with customs
