Happy 917 day, It brought victories home for Porsche from the Interseries, Europe, Can Am, North America, 24 hour victories , a Can Am tribute 914, and a gearhead movie by Steve McQueen...just to mention a few.
Kudos to the factory under Piech's watch for making this happen, and to todays custodians of these cars for bringing the 917s out to play.
I know many of you have some pics...Please post 'em up

Somewhere I have pics of the Sunoco turbo 917 circulating LRP at lunchtime, with Roger Penske driving one of them.
Racer Chris, nice pic of #35 Hippy.
Now just waiting on Ury to drop some awesome 917 pics here...it's 917 until midnight !
Then it's 918 day.

I know it's now 918 day, but I'll use my way-back machine and post this pic of the L&M 917-10 at Mecum a few years ago.
I liked #23 better when it bore the scars of racing and victory, rather than all pristine and primped as it now sits in the museum.......

IIRC, the actual chassis that won the 1970 edition of the 24 hours went to a collection in Japan. The "23" car in the museum is a different 917 which has been painted as the Le Mans winner.

and not to mention the #23 917 replica tribute rolling around Southern California car show circuit with a 3.2 911 engine. You can't miss the flat mounted Nutone ceiling fan mounted to the bodywork
