Most of you saw the ABM car for sale a few weeks back. 800 miles later its new home is here in Pleasanton. Exceptional '74 chassis with steel flares. Project car - needs finishing... going to take it slow and assemble things right.
Starting with the interior, then connecting controls, electrical, oil lines, etc. May put LSD transmission in. Will post pictures as I go.

EDIT: Whoops, I got it. Alaska Blue Metallic. You'd think I would remember--my first 914 was that color!!

Working on the passenger door panels. These are killer nice and FG is so much better than cardboard.
I need to custom make a vapor barrier to protect the inner doors which have been sound proofed and the window regulators powder coated.
What do you recommend for the glue on the vapor barrier, silicon or window butyl?

I think so. Very nice quality. Better than stock. I used new rivets on the brackets.

plain old 3m 2 sided tape will hold the vapor barrier in place. easy to remove the plastic in the future if you have to.

Perfect. Thanks! It turns out 2 sided tape for the whole length was way expensive at my local HW so I just used black silicon instead.

Slow to no progress except installing the rear flared valence thanks to MSDS. Came in primer. Test fitting took most of the time. Fits tight just like it should. Shot it with bed liner. The flared part is subtle so it looks good with anything. Nice part!

Michael,
You're welcome to come for a visit any time. I'm 0 for 2 for running 914s right now. Maybe in a month or so I can get one up and going. The muffler is a Dansk.

Getting closer....
The right accelerator cable is installed (installed a /4 then a /6 cable) there is some cable slop though. Is there a way to tie a knot or something.
Adjusted the clutch. Seems to be OK.
Brakes are squishy to the floor but then become OK if pumped. Might need a flush.
Roof is at Yeoman's
Got the 911 Oil Breather Hose in the mail, but need some big clamps...
Time to start?

Yeoman is a Porsche ish body shop in Palo Alto, that can shoot targa tops and refinish them.
Scott has a /6 and a couple tube frame 914s.

Update:
Mounted the exhaust clamps by extending the bolts off the back of the transmission.
Tightened the accelerator cable and straightened the cable angle.
Added oil.
Added fuel.
Turned motor.
Distributor wasn't assembled right and was loose - too much play.
Changed out Petronix back to points and condenser.
Plugs were fouled and were finger tight. Installed new plugs and tightened them.
MSD was wired wrong. Took 2 hours to figure out and fix. Was set up for an 8 cylinder.
Got fuel pressure but the PO had piped 2 filters and pressure gauge. Showing 3 lbs at the gauge but I am going to eliminate the second filter.
Motor started hard after significant effort but not for long. Carbs have big venturis for 40s and don't seem to match a 2.4. Pulled the carbs and sent out for a cleaning / rebuild.
Posted by: Cairo94507 Oct 11 2015, 07:27 AM
Wow! I can not wait to see your car.
Posted by: RobW Oct 11 2015, 07:49 AM

Posted by: RobW Oct 24 2015, 06:56 PM
Drove it around the block. Its loud. Distributor is wrong. Going to have to send it out to synch up with a 2.4 with carbs.
Alternator is shot too. Only getting 13 volts when revving and the gen light is on.
Nothing like getting done... only to have to pull the motor.

Here she is at Rennsport Reunion VI.
Turned out the distributor was off a couple teeth and a bunch of other stuff. The car is fully sorted for safety but needs some rework on the carb side to get it dialed in. New tires eventually, a proper front valence, and a parasitic battery drain. Short list.
Actually considering selling in 2019. I want to build another car.... stupid hobby.

Post some ABM 'before' pictures.
It’s an original ABM with a new paint job post metal flares. The PO’s picts are mostly the motor and parts. When I got it, it was non-opt, non-running, nothing connected, with most of the parts including the interior in boxes. Sad to say it took 4 years but there you go.
The PO said it was a Slits motor. It’s a 73.5 7R 2.4 but I have no idea if it has a stock cam or any valve / head work. The carbs are getting it going but it’s sucking gas and power seems to be at 75% at certain points. Pretty looking though with shiny parts!
I picked up a zero mile 3.0 but that’s a longer adventure....
I have an opportunity to build a real dream 914....

The point being made is that to call this your "build" is a stretch. The car was 80-90% done when you bought it... in any event, the car looks beautiful and the work you did got it back on the road. We've all gotta start somewhere... keep it up!!!

Oh, I get it. It was 80-90% done! That’s funny. If it really was 80-90% done that would have been very nice, but anyone who has put together a conversion car, the percentages can go down with issues that pop up. I should have done a better job of posting more, but there you go....
I want to build a B-24 themed 914 as a tribute to veterans and my Dad. Been searching for a donor car for awhile and may have found a good candidate.
Cheers!

Still working on my 90% done car.
Newer battery is putting out 16+ volts at rest. Took it for a drive and the stock volt meter is pegged at 12 until I use any light. Headlights on pegs it to the left.
Battery lasts about a week before its drained.
