Has anyone had success deleting hood lights, and driving with bumpers lights? It would be very occassional night driving, but I do want to see well. Pictures, advise?

as in "in" the bumper?

or "on" the top?

the car would look cleaner with the lights mounted in the bumper, but at least here in CA it's a fix-it ticket waiting to happen

some slant nose 911's (Kramers???) have them mounted in the bumper/airdam...looks good, but I don't know how they deal with the law...

I had seen that picture.
But I am more interested in an actual experience from US, drive your 914 at night guy.
I'm interested,if there has been an issue with police.
Just not enough light,for serious night driving.
Is the Pilot light enough to do the job?

I am speaking of the stock location driving lights, replaced with something brighter.

the lower you mount a light, the less effective it is, stock type headlights mounted that low would really be dim....

the pilot light is going to be too bright, the beam will be too widespread.....

just cause someone has done it without getting a ticket, this is one of those things that "are only illegal, if you get caught" instances IPB Image

best case if you get pulled over is just a warning or fix it ticket, worse case would be impounding the car if the officer deemed it too dangerous and a liability.....

I had lights similar to these Pilots mounted in the air dam of my Mustang 5.0.....the pattern was way too wide for "legal" driving.....sorta...I wired up a rheostat and turned the power down low while cruising around and then cranked up the power when I felt it was safe to do so.....

Chris Julian is running head lights in his AIR air dam/bumper. His hood is notch delete so no lights at the stock location. I am not going run the pop ups either...

if you talk to Chris, I got the okay to lend him Brads trailer....

I guess one could always have some temp. lights mounted with magnets stored in the trunk just in case they got pulled over and harrassed.....Chris is going to be pulled over by the cops a whole bunch just so they can drool over his car IPB Image

a cop magnet! People who ran the AIR kit on the street were/are taking that legal risk... The practical or safety deficiency is something to be concerned about.

There was a guy that built--then parted out--a 914 2.5 "lite" a while back. His site says "Complete headlight assemblies replaced with ultra-lightweight plastic HP4666 rectangular high/low beam halogen bulbs in buckets from a Geo Metro mounted in stock foglight positions (shown to the left)."

Someone has an awesome medium blue teener, with bumper headlamps... there are pictures here on the club.

It's illegal.

What about putting some of those smal projector beam headlights into where the turn signal resides? You could get the clear French? style lenses and mount the projector headlights behind them. that would bring the level of the lights up quite a bit. Oh, if you really drive rarely at night, how about magnetic headlights that you just stick on the hood? IPB Image

I was lucky and got some stock 914 Euro driving lights. They can be adjusted as to beam point. When I first got them I adjusted to the spot that my low beams centered upon and would use them at dusk. They are plenty bright enough for use at night but don't have the spread that headlamps do. Since then I have adjusted them to supplement the headlight "beam zone" at the upper left and upper right quadrants. I use the headlights for night driving, supplementing with these when I wish. I also use them to flash other Porsches as a "hello." Add on auxiliary lights are a personal taste item. I had them on the bumper of my British car eons ago but don't particularly like them on Porsches. Even the photos of the Euro GTs look kinda klunky to me with the big lights hanging on the front, but, whatever floats your boat.

i know a guy w/ a racecar and he bought the hood w/o the headlights and put lights in the bumper, not sure how good they are at night but....
