I seem to remember a thread about this very topic, but cannot locate it.

Any tricks to simply welding the bracket back on? Any suggestions "while I am in there" for further reinforcement?

I could see getting this wrong would cause alignment issues with the trunk.

Either replace it, or weld it back on then add two triangular gussets to strengthen it. I add the gussets to the new ones.

Btw, I never open the lid without my hand on top of it. Flying open its what breaks them.
