Can't believe I forgot to post this pic a few weeks ago. yikes.gif

I had a decent 94 F150 with a 5.0 which worked just fine, but then JRust found himself with one too many trucks and a deal was struck for a 97 F250 with a 7.3 diesel. I did loads of work to it (mostly in the engine, and some welding repair) but it never quite fit 'me'. So I found this 2002 F250 with a 7.3d. Pretty much all stock and in good shape. Drove the 914 200miles with a flat tow kit in the trunk and the deal was made. Hooked up the 914 and towed it home. biggrin.gif

To be clear... there's nothing wrong with the 914, it's still working great. I just didn't have someone to drive me to Yuba City, so this way I could do it all myself.

Been driving the truck quite a bit for the last few weeks and it's everything I wanted. But now I have three trucks. blink.gif Anyone want to buy a truck? shades.gif

Nice truck. I figured you were more of a Prius guy though... happy11.gif

WAIT! The truck is a FORD! For dependability and making sure you got home from Yuba City, the 914 should be doing the towing! LOL!

I like! I'd be interested in the '97 if you weren't so very far away...

Nice looking truck, good thing you stuck with 02 or older,,the 7.3 is the best diesel they made, loved both of mine.

Ditto on what Jeff said. I've had a 2001 PS for about 5 years. Weak link is the transmission. When towing a trailer shift out of overdrive when you go up a steep hill.
Not isolated to diesels. Fords in general. Mines at 142k with original the transmission.

Whats wrong with the 914???

Posted by: JRust Oct 2 2014, 09:46 AM

Nice ride man! Sorry to hear the 97 isn't going to work out. You get it all back together?

Yeah, it drives. We used it when our friends were in town. Only car I had that would seat six. Worked fine, but wanted something with a bit more fit-n-finish (i.e. wife friendly). wink.gif

Is that a rennenmetle tow brack on your 914? I'm thinking about picking one of those up.

Nice. I replaced my 06 Dodge Ram (great truck, just needed more power for towing) with a new F250 Super Duty. So far it has been a great truck.

Holleeee crap! Trying to piece this one together just from the pictures...

Blowout... then rim failed, then drivetrain effectively locked, then leaf spring failed? Lucky the driveshaft didn't dig in and go pole vaulting!

It went like this....Deer runs across the highway, swerve to miss the deer. Clip the guard rail with right rear wheel, wheel explodes & rips the rear end and drive line out the vehicle. I had pins in two broken fingers at the time and grabbed the wheel with broken hand that I had been resting on the counsel. OUCH! I used [b]all of the highway to bring the skidding truck to a stop and was so glad that no one was approaching in the other lane.
*no one was hurt in the filming of this accident including the deer. (It's now hunting season....) evilgrin.gif ar15.gif chowtime.gif

Did someone have something to say about a prius? because my prius seems to be up to just about any task I burden it with..

My tow vehicle, did the longest pull the other month from SD to Chuckwalla, no issues at all. Used to tow my pre-runner and trailer great too.

My old tow vehicle, I still miss it from time to time...

Now, that's an interesting pic for us in the Netherlands! Toyota won't allow you to install a tow bar under a Prius, stating that the engine's not up to it... You can get some sort of hook for a bike rack. That's all.

For all you Towers out there...

I got a renmetal towbar...first time towed the vehicle, it towed well.

Second time, I could not get the wheels to track, so I tied off the steering wheel. Nothing changed in the 4 days between tows.

Anybody experience this and maybe put some dead load in the front trunk?

Here's my tow vehicle. Haven't needed to use it yet but ready and waiting when the day comes. '68 f100. All original. 360 with with floor mounted 4spd with granny. This truck can do anything. Even cruises well. Love it. Do need to put some radials on it though.[attachmentid=490877]

Wow. Nice clean ford. Those 360s drink the fuel tho.

Check everything the front of the 914, including the tires. When the alignment's off, or something loose in the front that lets the alignment change, strange things happen. Once it was just unusually wide wheels in front. Sound familiar? Usually it's only at very low speeds and once you get past ten or fifteen miles an hour it stops. Well, it's always stopped for me, but who knows? Fixing the 914's alignment or front suspension also fixes it for towing.
