this air filter housing came with the 14 i got along with a few other parts....but all i wanted to know is what year car it came with and what type of filter is it?

thanks slits...would it logical to clean this up and use it? cuz right now ive got a DIY home depot K&N filter & PVC intake.....

no, it would be a bad idea.....it's not even close to how the original air-cleaner mounts on the 1.8's......most people throw the oil filled air-cleaners away..........keep your DIY unit or find the "correct" 1.8 air cleaner assembly.......

1972 only. I probably have a 1.8 unit in the shed. You SURE you have a 1.8? The air filter housing is part of the air flow meter assembly, and bolts to a bracket aft of the relay board on the left side. The Cap'n

Yep it is a '70 -'72 oil bath. Throw it as far as you can. That's what I did with mine. If filtering air by flowing it over a puddle of oil worked paper filters would never have been invented. Your DIY setup may not look very good but it probably works as good as anything stock you will find.

I think I have a couple of the correct 1.8 air cleaners if you want them. I know I wont be using them.

yea for sure it's a 1.8 although i wished it was a 2.0 IPB Image (i hope she didnt hear that) but yea i might just put like a rain shield over the cone filter instead and prolly re-angle the filter away from the driver side vent and toward the center of the car. thanks for the offer though guys. P.S. the PO was a nut job

It's nice to know, Michael J, that you know more than the factory. I'll bet you use a K&N too, huh?
You have any idea how many cars run better after the K&N is removed and the stock one is re-installed? I'll tell you, for a stock car, all of them!

But that's just my .02

it's only a temporary item. the PO had installed a crappy DIY filter and this was just a one day project...i'll prolly get a stock paper filter from a fellow 14er during the summer. as of right now my budget is limited w/ school and only a few hours for work. IPB Image
