The date and location for Rennsport V is Oct. 9-11 Sept. 25-27, 2015 at Laguna Seca. Make room on your calendar for this one ... should be HUGE

Hopefully, they do a better job with registration... Parade was awful this last year... But, I'm going! biggrin.gif

Looked this morning for hotels but most of them are not taking reservations yet. I booked one anyways for more than I wanted to pay that I can cancel if needed. I would guess that the local hotel rates will go higher as event is advertised. Camping for the event is not set up yet either. headbang.gif I am excited for the event though. rolling.gif boldblue.gif mueba.gif dance.gif monkeydance.gif

Parade was a PCA event, PCNA will do a much better job.

If it's as great as the last one, it should rock! Monterey is a great place to visit as well.

Posted by: wes Oct 9 2014, 02:10 PM

The last Rensport event in Montery was great and the hotel, motels are most often sold out as Montery is a event Capitol, most always something going on that draws a lot of people besides the fact that it's just a great place to vist.

Posted by: SKL1 Oct 9 2014, 02:19 PM

think the date is a coincidence??? easy to remember...

Posted by: Manny Alban Oct 9 2014, 02:27 PM

Comparing Parade registration and Rennsport is apples and oranges. Parade is a week long event that has over 20 events that you can register for. Rennsport, if you go as a spectator, just requires you to buy a ticket and a corral pass (if you drive your Porsche).

btw, PCNA will not handle tickets. Laguna Seca's ticket agent will most likely handle that.

PCA will handle the corrals. Hopefully this time around the ticket agent gather the necessary data (year, model, etc) so our volunteers do not have to chase down over 1000 owners. Having Porsches separated by model was quite stunning.

PCNA asks PCA to handle registration for the LA, Detroit and NY autoshows since they do not have their own registration system.

I'm interested in camping out. I can bring the pusher. How do you get a site?

I'm in this time; we should have a corral worth of 914's...

Posted by: biosurfer1 Oct 9 2014, 04:02 PM

Two in a row at the same place? I'm not complaining because I live close enough to go and have a place to stay already but I'm surprised they would do that.

Posted by: dlkawashima Oct 9 2014, 04:15 PM

Rennsport II & III were at Daytona so that precedent has already been established.

According to the linked article, ticket sales went from 3,500 at Rennsport III to about 40,000 at Rennsport IV. Taking into account the huge jump in ticket sales, it's not surprising they chose to come back to the Monterey Peninsula for Rennsport V.

I called today for campsite reservations. The lady said that they have not set the pricing for the event yet. She told me to check back the first week of November.

OK, now I have a goal to get my car running by then !!!

To quote Jules Winfield:

"I'm going, man. That's all there is to it. I'm F***ing going!"

Would be cool to caravan up with some other SoCal teeners. Lots of time to organize, and mine *should* be back where it belongs by then - on the road to a Porsche nerd fest.

Dave,

Thanks for the tipoff.
I will be there !
We have the local PC concours here in Sydney this Sunday.
I will let our regular RR tragics know !

Cheers,
Dennis. smile.gif

This looks to be extremely cool & I'm considering attending, however not with my cars. No way I'm towing or driving either of my teeners across the country & back; too expensive & stressful.

Posted by: naro914 Oct 10 2014, 06:22 AM

We will be there...somehow, some way. The weekend before is Petit LeMans which could make things interesting...

Hmmm....maybe we could get a truck to transport cars from the Southeast to pick up right after Petit so we can have our cars in the corral??? hmmm....

Dear PCA Members,

It’s official: Rennsport Reunion V will be held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on October 9-11 next year, according to Porsche Cars North America (PCNA), four years after the fourth installment of the world-renowned Porsche festival.

PCA.org Rennsport Reunion V post

Rennsport V is expected to attract hundreds of vintage and modern Porsche race cars, "as well as those who have designed, engineered, and driven them to victory in the world's most famous sports car races," PCNA states. Like Rennsports before it, number five will consist of three days of vintage racing, a Concours d'Elegance, and activities celebrating each of six decades of Porsche race cars — all crash courses of Porsche history.

And if you just want to watch fast Porsche metal racing on a world-famous race track, then prepare to whet your appetite with race-prepped 356s, mid-engined 550 Spyders, 718 RSKs, 917s, 956/962s, GT3 RSRs, RS Spyders, and so many more.

“While the Rennsport name from the beginning has become a staple fixture for international collectors and racers, choosing the Monterey Peninsula opened up this one-of-a-kind gathering to the many Porsche fans in California and beyond who were previously unable to attend,” said Detlev von Platen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Cars North America. “Approximately 40,000 spectators for the weekend, and a record number of race cars and participants, proved that our decision to come here was correct.” To put that number into context, compare it to the roughly 3,500 tickets sold for 2007's Rennsport III at Daytona International Speedway.

As with Rennsport IV, which attracted around 1,300 Porsche Club of America member-owned Porsches, according to PCNA, Rennsport V is expected to have a similarly huge turnout of members and their Porsches, filling race classes, show fields, and parking lots at the race track. It's the perfect way to finish PCA's year-long 60th anniversary celebration.

The first Rennsport Reunion was held in 2001 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, followed by the second and third at Daytona International Speedway in 2004 and 2007, and the fourth at Laguna Seca in 2011. All the while, the festival was growing exponentially, with tens of thousands more attendees flooding Laguna Seca for Rennsport IV compared to Rennsport III, which sold 3,500 tickets. Due to the success of the last event, we would have been surprised if Rennsport V weren’t in the books — and indeed there have been grumblings about a fifth, though time and place were unknown until today.

Porsche Club of America is an official Rennsport Reunion V partner, so look to our website and social media channels for official updates and information in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Damon Lowney

This event should eclipse RR IV in attendance and cars.

I think what turned Porsche off about Daytona was that the place always seemed empty. It was built for Nascar and the Daytona 500. Laguna is much more intimate and scenic. Plus, and let's be real, there is no comparison between Daytona and Carmel. I didn't have to do much arm twisting to convince the wife to come to RRIV. She is already excited about RR V.

Big picture is that the Rennsport Reunions are never guaranteed. Don't say "I'll go next time" because it may not happen.

btw, rental cars are fine...you'll just be parking on the outside of the track...the walk will do you good smile.gif

Posted by: GeorgeRud Oct 10 2014, 11:38 AM

I seem to remember that the infield Porsche parking filled in immediately at IV, and many were parked up on the hillside lots as well. Regardless how you get there, just go to see the event!

I agree with Manny, I didn't have to convince my wife to come back to Carmel. Once at Daytona was enough for us, though it was fun to see the Speedway in person.

Posted by: Scott S Oct 10 2014, 12:07 PM

I got the a-ok from the boss (my wife) yesterday. If my work schdule allows, I am definitely going. I have never been to one before - really really hope it works out.

Staying at my sister in-laws in Prunedale like last time.

This time I am taking my car.

One of the best times I had last time was watching Chris Frank in a -4 914 1.7 just walk on the rest of the field. The other notable moment was seeing a 917 full bore on the backstretch.

Good times. Hope to see some from the rest of our "World" there.

If any of you have not seen this....it is a great event.

Been to the last 3, missed the 1st one at Lime Rock.

At IV, I took a break near the biergarten and all of a sudden people started stopping, looking, and taking pics.?!? I wasn't sure what the heck was going on until I noticed Derek Bell was right next to me relaxing!! pray.gif

How cool is that. I'm sure I've been Photoshopped out of many, many photos!

Pretty cool event when famous Porsche Drivers are just hanging out with everyone else.

The Craziness has already started.....

We booked the Howard Johnson in Marina for $120/night

While checking out restaurants, etc, I came across the Howard Johnson in Seaside, They are both ~20 minutes from the track, so we decided to check it out since we like that area... Rooms were $370/night!!! blink.gif

There will be a fee or cost of some kind. I think they released the dates so hotels could get booked. I'm sure there will be further details as we get closer to the date.

It depends. If you want a paddock pass its more. If you want to just sit in the stands, less.

I would highly recommend the paddock pass.

Do we pre-order paddock passes or stand seating ?

Posted by: Manny Alban Oct 18 2014, 08:35 AM

More than likely, PCA won't be selling tickets. The track or rather the track's ticket agent will sell them. Normally they'll have a spectator pass and a Porsche only corral pass. I doubt they will sell out of the spectator passes. Corral, yes, spectator, no.

As they say, more info to come.

Jim,

Get the Paddock Pass. The tickets will be sold through the track....at least they were last time. It is a big track and there are so many different ways to see the track you won't want to sit in the stands.

There is a hell of a lot to see and do...so do all three days if you can.

There was a beirgarten at the top of the corkscrew...good times. We hung out near the top of the corkscrew. You can see the whole track from the top of the hill.

That's my suggestion. I was really fun last time. Hope to see everyone there.

Posted by: GeorgeRud Oct 18 2014, 10:57 PM

I seem to remember that the ticket got you into everything without a desperate paddock pass last time. I still remember that Porsche had Cayannes taking people up to the corkscrew from the paddock last time - much better than trying to climb that hill.

I attended the last one, booked late and paid dearly for it, basucally did every thing late, and was lucky enough to be able to meet many guys from the early s and from here too.

If i recall, there was corral for the 914,s many nice ones parked, hope to see them and more againg.

For any one who has not attended any of the events, you will have a ball, and 3 days is not enough, to many things and cars, and people too see.

I booked at the Hyatt lucky enough i was sent a heads up 2 weeks ago, but even then may hotels where not taken resv that time ahead.

Hope to see all there !

Unless something changes in the next year, we will be flying in and driving a rent-a-slug. It is a long trip in a 914. We would do it, but October is a bad time at Betty's work, so she can't take that much time off. And I can't drive that far alone.

We're paying the premium to stay at the Homewood Suites in Seaside. Very convenient to both the track, and to Monterey and Carmel. I think my wife will find another way to spend her days out there rather than all day at the racetrack, and those places will keep her busy.

It's the only poster in the RR series I'm missing. I had the RR3 poster signed by a bunch of drivers...just can't read the majority of the signatures.

Thanks for the reminder Rob on the campsite. I do have a reservation at the Monterey Spa near the wharf but I think that my budget is more camping than spa. hey guys - i was on hold #97 at 9:00 a.m. on 12/3 - i spoke with the tix folks - the corrals and camping will be the first to go - also, if you sign up for a corral, you must bring that model car or you will not be allowed at your paid for corral or for corral for the model you brought - according to the tix folks, you can change your model, but you must do this at least 8 weeks prior to the event - a word to the wise, get your tix now!!!

Betty and I bought our tickets this morning. We got the GA + Paddock, and the Rev Limiter zone. I can't wait to hear a 917 pass by at full song!!! drooley.gif

We started looking at airfare, and I had a brilliant idea. Fly into Ontario and get Slits to rent me a 914 for the weekend. But Betty said it would probably break down and I would spend my vacation fixing it, and Slits would get it back better than when he rented it to me. poke.gif So no 914 rentals or car corral for us. sad.gif

Any suggestions on airports? We are Texans, and a short trip here is anything under 3 hours. So a trip from the LA or Reno areas is easily doable for us.

Clay,
LAX by car to Monterey is approx. 8 hours up the 101 or 5, into Salinas/ Laguna Seca area. More time if traffic, even more time if taking scenic routes.

Got my order in today. I bought the 3-day pass with Porsche Corral, and also the Rev Limiter Zone passes. My computer sort of freaked out just as I was confirming the purchase, so I called in to be sure everything went through okay. The ticket agent told me there were only seven 914s signed up for the corral so far. She said they hadn't decided yet where the cars would be stationed ... it probably depends on how many of each model sign up for the corral.

Marty,

8 hours is not what google maps said, but you live there and I don't so I will take your word for it.

Flights into Monterrey will be at a premium price, and there will be a high demand for rental cars too. If we fly into LA or SFO or Sacramento, that won't be as bad. And 8 hours driving is not a problem for us. Where I live, 8 hours driving gets you to Amarillo, which is 1/3 of the way to LA, and you don't even get out of the state. biggrin.gif

SJC OAK and SFO are all 90 minutes from Laguna Seca. If you want some scenic CA, LAX or BUR 6-7 hrs with traffic.

My plans aren't set yet, but I might be able to give you a lift in the diesel pusher. I will also have to figure out how to get the ABM or Dads car to the corral.

We've flown into Monterey Airport several times. Fly into LAX and then a regional Jet into Monterey's airport (we passed directly over Laguna Seca on final approach).

However, we're planning on flying into the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose area directly from Chicago as it's not that long of a drive to Monterey from there.

We enjoyed driving around the Monterey area during the Parade in my 914-6, but I was lucky enough to have it shipped out and back for us. I don't think I'd want to make that drive anymore.

HEADS UP!!! i just received this from the 356 registry site:

"Hello Porsche Family and Friends:

As the subject of this e-mail states, we’ve taken the unpleasant but necessary step(s) to move the date for Rennsport Reunion V, resolving the conflict with the World Endurance Championship (WEC) race in Fuji.

The new date is two weeks earlier, September 25 – 27, 2015.

I assure you the decision was not made lightly. We understand many of our enthusiastic fans have already made their hotel reservations, travel and vacation plans based off the earlier date. However, the fact that our 919 Hybrid LMP1 and 911 RSR teams, along with the factory works drivers and engineers that go with them can now attend our greatest celebration was just too powerful to ignore.

As we checked for alternative availability, rumors began circulating, especially in the past week and we wanted you to hear it from us first. There will be an official press release distributed shortly after 6:00 pm, EST today.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to seeing you all, more than ever, in Monterey in September!

Warm regards,

Dave Engelman
Media Relations Manager - Motorsports and Brand Heritage"

Jim, it looks like ticket sales have been temporarily suspended, but I'd call them directly to be sure. There are a couple of phone numbers listed regarding ticket sales:

Mazda Raceway says to call this number for more info: 831-242-8200
PCA suggests calling this number for ticket info: 800-327-7322

Posted by: jim_hoyland Jan 24 2015, 01:54 PM

The 1st number referred me to the web pages for ticket sales; the second number could not be completed....will try later.

Think about a simple date change on something like this, Ill bet a lot of vendors are working there tails of due the change, air lines, and hotels not selling out for the old dates though Monterey is always busy.

The date for Rennsport V has changed. If you have already made hotel reservations, make sure to get them changed to the new date.

Porsche Rennsport Reunion V has moved to September 25-27 due to conflicting dates with the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Fuji, Japan,
which would have significantly impacted the quality of Rennsport by pulling away vital assets needed for the prestigious event.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Porsche Cars North America have been working together to move the date to accommodate all the many
elements that are being planned for another successful Rennsport.

“Our fans are our first priority and we appreciate their support,” explained Gill Campbell, CEO/General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“While it was a difficult decision for both organizations to make, the end result will be a far stronger and more impactful event for everyone who attends and participates.”

All existing orders will automatically transfer to the new date and customers will receive an updated confirmation. If customers are unable to attend,
please contact ticketing@mazdaraceway.com or call the ticket office by March 2, 2015 at 831-242-8200 for a full refund.

Porsche announces Rennsport Reunion V hashtag, unveils official website and logo

Monday, March 9, 2015

Details about Rennsport Reunion V have been trickling out since it was first announced late last year, including a date change of the event from October to September 2015, but the tap has been opened with the launch of the official Rennsport Reunion V website, the social media hashtag — #PorscheRRV — and the official logo.

We'd recommend paying attention to that hashtag in the months leading up to — and during — RRV whether you're on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, as you never know what juicy Porsche content will appear. In the meantime, head over to the official RRV website to pour over the latest updates, such as the event schedule, vehicles and drivers that will be in attendance, photo and video galleries from past Rennsports, and general information and history about the event.

Porsche press release

Atlanta. Today, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. released new details for the highly anticipated Porsche Rennsport Reunion V being held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, September 25 – 27, 2015.

This year’s Reunion, the fifth installment of what has become a Porsche tradition in North America, will highlight Porsche at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. As the most successful marque in the history of the famed 8.47 mile Le Sarthe Circuit, with sixteen overall race victories between 1970 and 1998 and 100 class victories, Porsche returned to the top level of Sports Car competition with the 919 Hybrid LMP1 Sports-Prototype in 2014.

On the official Porsche Rennsport Reunion V website, www.porscherennsportreunion.com, Porsche fans have access to up-to-date information on the drivers and cars that are scheduled to attend, along with photos and videos from past Reunions. Links to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s website for tickets, registration and track information are also available on the official website.

Building upon the theme from Rennsport Reunion IV, the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See, Austria rejuvenated the familiar logo for Rennsport Reunion V. The logo will appear on official communications, strategic locations around the track, and on select merchandise.

For followers of Social Media, #PorscheRRV has been chosen to be used for tagging photos, video and social media content. It is welcomed for fans and enthusiasts to use the new hashtag on any Porsche Rennsport Reunion related subject matter.

Future details will be published on Porsche’s press website (www.press.porsche.com) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s website (www.mazdaraceway.com), as they become available.

Ticket information is available by contacting 800-327-7322 or online at www.mazdaraceway.com

Have you been to one before? If not, why in the fence?

We just booked out plane tickets yesterday.

Rennsport is better than Monterey Historics! Worth the effort.

agree.gif this is going to be a classis event ! Wouldn't miss it for... I'll be at HOJO Thursday after cruising up HWy1

I'm at the Hojo too. A bit over a month away! Do we have a count on the 914 guys attending yet?

I'll be there from Chicago, but not with my car. If there will be a gathering of the faithful, please broadcast the location and time.

Is there a 914World members rendezvous date/time/location being planned?

I have not seen any planned rendezvous.

I will be there but not my 914, I will have my truck and trailer in campsite CSV 605 overlooking the corkscrew.

All of our 914world friends can always meet up at the MSDS booth located in the Merchant row. Not a big tent, but centrally located if you need to meet up, hang out or beerchug.gif

Had I thought about it and planned better, I was going to ask one of you if we could borrow a 914 for the corral. However, being only a month-ish away and obviously the corrals are sold out, I guess it doesn't matter now. We'll have a rental car instead.. sad.gif

I'll be at HoJo Thursday. I have an open seat if you would like to join us at the corral; there should be additional open seats from HoJo to Laguna Seca.

FYI: there's a great lunch/dinner place on the beach at the end of Reservation Road in Marina. Kula Ranch. Good parking, reasonable prices, and right on the beach.

The corral has been sold out however you can get on a waiting list though I wonder what the likelihood of more room opening up!
I must say it is quite amazing to me that at a Porsche only event the Porsche Corral parking would not have enough tickets to buy at this point being over a month away.

For the 2011 Rennsport IV at Laguna Seca, they used all the area in Green Lots 3 and 4 for the Porsche Corral (see attached layout) - that's a lot of parking!
My guess is they just didn't have enough room; they may open up more dedicated Porsche corral space but I wouldn't bet on it.
Between you and me, I'm not driving my 914 or Cayman - I can't handle the heavy clutch in the Teener for the long traffic jam drive home to San Jose (plus the lot closed before I could even sign up for it).

Here's a short video of the Green parking lot at the last Rennsport. It starts near #3 of the green section (see map in previous post) and swings up to green #4. In the distance you can see a whole bunch of cars parked in the Blue #4 section. As I recall there were about 800 Porsches in the green section and another 500 in the blue section ... and they still ran out of reserved spots.

I'm sure I will find Shea and a few others, much of my time will be in the pits helping out some friends. Look for the big Red toterhome with a plain white stacking trailer as seen in the pic, and these two cars, along with others...

Come say Hi for sure!

Received a call from Laguna Seca regarding corral parking as I was put on a over flow list and they are expanding the corral so would like to know how many of each Porsche model and years will be parking for the plan. If you haven't bought your corral space call them and get on The list. Phone # at the ticket office is (831) 242-8200 they expect to make the revised plan by Monday or Tuesday so do it soon, and remember the more the marier!

I received my tickets last week for paddock parking. Now I need to decide if I want to drive the 914 or one of my other cars.

Are there any drives planned?

Porsche thought that 1,200 corral spaces would do, but more new spaces means more Porsches .

I received my passes and green corral parking yesterday, and it looks like they're going to put us in the same section as the last Rennsport, along with the 912s.
It's one of the closest spots you can get to the paddock ... green #3 in the map below.

Yes...they have been.

I am starting to get excited about going now.

I like watching from the top of the corkscrew or along the side by the bridge near the corkscrew. The group three was very exciting last time.

I see the Frank-Ginther car will be there.
