914World.com _ 914World Garage _ What is this latch and spring for?

Posted by: Cuda911 Oct 19 2014, 03:31 PM

I was replacing the carpet today and noticed a small latch on the floor just behind the driver's seat, beneath a metal housing.

What is this latch for (see center pic below)?

Also, underneath the housing is a spring that feels like it is attached to a cable.

What is it for?

See pix below.

Thanks!

That goes to a belcrank on the emergency brake, just under that plate with the screw.

I remember that spring was a PITA. Made strong so that it took the slack out of the cable when the parking brake lever is released, it did not want to bend into the little splitter hole for it. I think I finally had to take the splitter off the cable, and twist it onto the spring, then reinstall the splitter with its short cable to the release lever.
