how is this supposed to work? i filled up the bottle half way and the pump motor just spins. if i pull off the suction/intake tube and stick it in a glass of water everything works.
it seems like my tank might be missing a tube to pickup water from the bottom of the tank. or is the tank pressurized or what?

Weird... if you click on the image, it is no longer upside down.
I'm guessing the thumbnail generator does not honor the photo's orientation metadata, but the browser does when the original image is rendered.

You're right about the image.
Do you have a 914/6 washer bottle? Or is it from a four?
The four bottle is a pressure vessel and so is sealed. The six bottle is just a reservoir and has a vent.
If you have the four bottle, try it with the cap off.
Oh, just looked at the big pic and saw it is a six tank. I would still try it with the cap off and see if that works
Cap off and prime it. you have the internal pickup tube?
Pumps are the same as the 911 of the period. Now available in reproduction.
internal pickup tube? that sounds like something im missing. any photos of what that looks like?
does the connector on top with the hose connections pop off? if so it would be easy to add a pickup tube, but i tried a little and it was stuck. i really dont want to break the tank.
doesnt work the cap off either. right now its just sucking air so it makes sense that it would not work.
and yes, this is a repro pump. an original was in the car but rusty and ratty looking. the repro is actually quite different from the original and is far from a perfect copy as advertised. but it looks close.

edit again...
thanks everyone. mystery solved. your photos gave me the confidence to pull hard on that top plug thing and it does just pop off.
and... somehow... mine is missing that intake tube. which is really strange because it could never work like this and its not loose in the tank.
i'll just add some tube to get it to work.
