914World.com _ 914World Garage _ My 914 Page

Posted by: tracks914 Jan 30 2005, 12:21 PM

A year after my ISP changed my Web page, I finally got around to updating it.
It's pretty crude as far as web design goes and I want to make it fancier......but as far as the pictures go, you can tell what I have done to the car.
Thanks for looking.

Very good IPB Image

IPB Image Very nice car, I'm particularly jealous of your mobile car lift! I've had several occasions where that would have been golden. How did the muffler turn out? Also curious what you repacked it with. IPB Image IPB Image

The muffler has been rewelded but still needs to be polished. I won't know what it sounds like until I get the car out of storage in about 2 months from now and put it on. It wasn't repacked with anything. I replace the tail pipe (with some sound dampening in it) with a straight SS pipe. We'll see how loud it is.

Great Job! IPB Image You give me hope! My car is very similar in rust damage to yours.

What kind of finish did you finally decide on for the wheels? They look nice and clean and proper. I'm doing cookie cutters, but I'd like to end up with something similar.

Wow! Fantastic Job! The car looks great! I get so jealous seeing people with that much skill (and money my wife adds... )

The web page looks great too. except on the home page I see a bunch of "<>" show up all over. I'm using Firefox 1.0

I glass beaded the rims then shot them with 3 coats of clear coat for aluminium wheels.

Nice.

Might want to fix the "website" in your Profile so that the "WWW" button at the bottom of your post works as well.

Nice IPB Image

One thing I would like to do to both my cars (Type 3 and 914) is strip them down, do body work, paint, and put back together. But the complete striping is intimidating. I'm fearful that I'll lose a piece or forget how to put it back together. What do you guys & gals do to mentally get yourself into striping a car? If I could just get over that hurdle (and get a bigger space to store everything IPB Image )

I just cant wait for all that snow and cold to go to take mine for a drive , i am comming back from where you were , did the hell hole and etc, at least the outside panel were ok, the engine is in and it runs, got to finish the interior ( just need carpet and they are already ordered) you did a great job,, I hope we will have a 914 canadian classic!!!!!

Just start taking parts off, put them in large ziplock bags, label them with a black felt pen, put them in a box......then take another part off.
All it takes is comitment.

Good job! Since I'm only at the beginning of my project, and you're doing (or have done) essentially the same thing as me, I'm interested to know how long it took you. Also, what would you consider harder (more aggravating), the body work or the mechanicals? Most days I just plug away and don't think about the end result, but sometimes I look at how much there is to do and I just wonder why I decided to start this in the first place. I just remind myself that life is in the journey, not the destination.

It's good to see the number of Canadians represented on this board. If any of you are going to be in Kitchener, PM me and you're more than welcome to drop by. My project is my garage and I essentially work at home. It's hard to find people around here with too much enthusiasm for beat up old Teeners.

From the day I tore it apart to the day I insured it and drove it...17 months 28 days.
What I enjoyed the most? The mechanical. It was the first time I had really painted a base coat/ clear coat car (I'd done enamel stock cars before) and I really learned and enjoyed that, but putting it all back together, clean or new parts, was like icing a cake. I love building motors too, that was fun.
I hated the body work. The welding and fabricating is fun but I can't sand worth a dam. If you look on page 2 of my site, you'll see a door and one trunk lid. 17 hours of applying and sanding body filler on those alone.

This spring I am going to do my tranny and install my SS exhaust system. Then it will all be done..............but it never really ends. aktion035.gif
