it runs! it stops! it is awesome!!!!!!! it has been about 4 months since i have driven brunhilda. i dream about running through the gears (sad, but true) and listening to that beautiful little dual carbed 1.7 liter boxer. words fail me trying to describe the joy, yes the joy, at driving this car again.
ok, after bleeding and flushing 48 oz. of castrol gmlfa (or whatever it is called) i still have a mushy pedal. new pads all around. used speed bleeders for the first time (new). one pump and i get hard pedal, and it stops straight, no pulling. stops good, too. any suggestions on the mush?

Ohhhhhhhh... the mush.
It's probably the P-valve. Have a helper MASH on the brakes while you bleed the rears (especially). You "may" need to bleed the valve but a two-person "standard" job should do the trick. You really have to pump the shi%$ out of them to get that valve to cough up the extra bubblie.

That thingy does have some external adjustment to it?? Right?? I have been pondering putting in a "T" or trying to stiffen this thingy up--thoughts??
With a completely stock 914 system I don't recommend the "T". I have a "T" on my GT but it now has a complete 911S system on it.
It has adjustment but I believe it's epoxyed in place. There's a Birdie Board thread with all sorts of calculations and graphs on the p-valve.
I have an extra P-valve if anyone's in need.
hmm... i did the one-man speed bleeder dealie. i know to do the the p-valve i will need another person. hmmm... i think i will try that. thanks for all the help, by the way.
have i mentioned how SOOPER KEWL it is to drive the teener again? it is just a little 1.7, but it sounds so very kewl. i truly love it.

Well, I got to drive mine today. It was way cool. The sound of a healthy V8 rumbling behind you and the power and torque you feel when you accelerate is so nice. A few more adjustments and some more tinkering and I will be out on the road tearing up the freeways and back roads of Southern California.
Oh yea, I forgot to mention : ( in a good way )--I am presently at odds with my 72 1.7--glad someone is having fun!
Just got back from driving Frank up and down State Street,,,,even the low rider Chevy's and the Boxsters gave me a wave....life is good....

Just giving you a hard time. Enjoy having your 914 back on the road. When they are right, they are SO RIGHT!
Just keep bleeding the brakes. Every couple of days go through the bleeders one at a time. Some times it just takes time to settle. I actually went through my bleeders today and got some bubbles in the rear two. It's still got more potential so I'll go through again in a few days. I'm not a believer in "bleeding" the P-Valve.

Stop your friggin braggin!! I cant see my teener rightnow, the snow is too deep on her. As for the brake jack the a$$ end up as high as you can then bleed the rears aain.

Let us know how you like the dual webers. My 1.7 is still stock but I have been thinking about a single 2 barrel or a set of small Webers.
Do the 34 ITC's have chokes?

the dual 34s are awesome! lots more low end, though the high end is the same. before this i had a weber 32/36 progressive. that setup did well, but had little low end. an interesting benefit to having the dual 34 ICTs is the sound; much richer exhaust notes. i really like the sounds! the ICTs have no choke that i can see, but after sitting in the garage for 4 months, it fired up no problemo. not sure if choke would have made a difference there.
if you are looking for a single progressive, let me know; i have one with the intake runners and stuff.

I waded through the snow, chipped some ice and got my garage door to open. After a lot of cranking and prodigeous use of ether, I got mine to start. Let it get hot and rolled it around in the garage a little. Dreamed for a while, then put the cover back on. Damn, I hate winter.
i'm not sayin' it was warm driving with the top off , but it was dry. odd, for here.
we could use a bit of your snow, at least in the mountains. it looks like late june up there. makes for a parched and dusty summer if'n we don't get some snow up there.
