914World.com _ 914World Garage _ help me identify this strut

Posted by: jkeyzer Jan 30 2005, 11:13 PM

My 914 has a 911 front suspension but I don't know what year/model they are off of.

The struts are marked Boge and have the part numbers 911 341 041 00 and 911 341 042 02 for the driver and passenger side respectively. Any idea what year 911 these are from?

One clue, they take alloy 's' calipers with the 3.5" spacing.

Thanks!

While we're at it.. Do mine too! The seller told me he thought this suspension was from a 70s Carrera. Can anyone tell what year it's from and whether or not it really is from a Carrera? Oh and I have pictures! IPB Image

Strut part number: (Could that 77 off to the left mean 1977?)

Snicker.. I there's a pic of the part number. This is less of a hijack and more of a bump with ulterior motives IPB Image

Well, Bondo, yours looks like a late 70's SC or Carrera with the underbody sway bar and 3.5" calipers. As for the others, they are most likely 75 up if they have the 3.5" caliper spacing. If you have the whole suspension, you can tell by the type of sway bar roughly what year it is but not for sure. The part number should give you a year range. They used the same ones on different years.

If ya wait till Monday..PET6 will tell me..I won't tell you IPB Image

The swaybar in the image appears to be an SC type...say about '78

But I don't know nuthin

Found it...

It is showing up as mid 70s 911, pre-911SC... Bilstein strut for s caliper.

Those are not S calipers though, probably 'A' type.

I got PET6 I guess I could try looking it up

I have one of those programs too... but I couldn't find 911 341 041 00 and a search turned up nothing.

Cool. Anyone know the exact year the underbody sway bar was introduced? I'd like to get the year specific enough that I can order pads/rotors/ball joints/bearings online and get the right parts.

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 12:09 AM

I can see where that would be beneficial. I will try to look it up the PET and see when it pops up first.

Ok, It first shows up on the 74 model. 73 shows through the body. I hope this helps.

Anyone know what car MY strut is from??

Posted by: bondo Feb 1 2005, 09:30 PM

Maybe you have 912E struts or something?

Mid to late 70's was when Boge started to make the 3.5". BUT, its hard to tell which year because Porsche did a lot of different options (manufacture; Koni, Bilstein, Boge), and Bilstein was huge during the SC years. Carreras from 84-89 got alot of Boge's, and in mid 86 all struts changed from internal threads to external threads for the top cap that holds the strut in the housing.

Plus, who knows who owned your suspension before you got your hands on it... Ya they're both Boge, but one might have been replaced due to an overly aggresive curb attack..
