914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Video of the Chalon on the move

Posted by: skline Jan 30 2005, 11:29 PM

I have two files, one is 21 meg and the other is 12 meg. They are of the Chalon driving out the driveway and down the street, it sounds pretty impressive, and the smaller file is of the car coming down the street and slowing for the stop sign and turning around and coming back home. I think the car sounds great but I am now going to pull the rear trailing arm and rip out the Weltmiester eurethane bushings as they squeak like hell. I only did the driver side and I am glad I did. These things suck! For now, I want to drive it though. Time for an alignment and some cruise time. So if anyone can host a couple of MPG files, let me know how to get them to you and we can post them up.

you have a pm.....i have a linux server with like 20GB of space for all the 914 fanatics out there!

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 12:07 AM

Files are being uploaded now and should be done in about 45 minutes. We will see. Thanks BD1308. IPB Image

How do we know the car is actually running and not just rolling down hill? Maybe the noise is a recording? Maybe it's a clever computer trick? Who knows? How does Skline make a living? WITH COMPUTERS!! I rest my case.
Elliot

i dont think it will take 45 mins to load i think its taking him 45 mins to graft the chalon in to somebody elses video. the car is a figment of his imagination and he is paying people off to say its real and it runs

What are you going to replace the bushings with? And how long until you make a burnout/CV grenading video? IPB Image

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 12:59 AM

That is a good question, I didnt really accelerate hard on it yet and it seems to get right along. I am more worried about the transmission, the CV's are an easy replacement. The trans however, is a little more work and I only have one spare. One of these days, I will find me a 930 gearbox I can afford and get that put in. Then I wont really have to worry about it. As for the bushings, the sooner the better. I could hear it creaking in the video when I turned around at the corner and if i could hear it over the sound of the car, that is just embarassing. It SUCKS! The video has been uploaded to the FTP but I think he went to bed as he has school in the morning, Hopefully he will post the links before he goes to school tomorrow. Other wise, I will be later. Sorry, its the best I could do.

Credible witnesses? Where? OK, I have seen the Chalon and I've heard the Calon and I've seen Skline and I've heard Skline talk about the Chalon, but I haven't actually seen the Chalon run. Hell I even worked on the Chalon!! But I haven't actally seen the Chalon run. Does the Chalon run?? Run Chalon run. (Can you tell I'm bored tonight?)

You tell em Matt, Elliot knows he has an open invitation to come by anytime. In fact, he has just popped in on us in the past. Elliot, I will be home tomorrow afternoon and screwing around with the car, if you want to come by, maybe I can take it out again for a little spin. I have to get some fuses for the lights and stuff so i can be legal on the road. I also should really install the license plate on the back too. Much to do yet, but its getting so close.

Posted by: Elliot Cannon Jan 31 2005, 01:05 AM

What? No video because someone had to go to bed??? Very suspicious. I don't know.
. Cheers, Elliot

I am good at the computer, but it takes some time when you are editing video to make a yellow S-10 pickup look like a primer grey Chalon, and making the sound come out just right. I am good, but not that good.

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 07:35 AM

Posted by: spare time toys Jan 31 2005, 08:33 AM

So long to down load no one will watch??? Perhaps it never happened.. IPB Image IPB Image could be this car is just a prop from a movie studio that looks good but is just window dressing. IPB Image IPB Image Still its a long way ahead of my junk though IPB Image

Ok Sombody try the link below and let me know if it works.

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 09:14 AM

If that one works, try this one too.

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 09:14 AM

okay guys i guess i should explain why the vid's download so slow. My cable company (i am using cable) have capped upload speeds to like 24k. Anybody on dial-up shouldnt notice a huge decrease as top TX speed are around 5K anyway. Um, if anybody would like to host them let me know and i'll help you.

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 09:16 AM

I put them on my web server here and my cable company has the cap on around 384 I think, try the links and see if they are any faster.

IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image you lucky bastard....

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 09:40 AM

So has anyone tried it? How is the bandwidth? Is it any faster?? Let me know please.

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 09:55 AM

i'm gettin around 13K tops for your site....man I need a T1!!!!

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 09:58 AM

Well, I am looking at the stats for it and there is 9 people DLing it now so I am sure it will slow down for that.

Posted by: 3d914 Jan 31 2005, 10:05 AM

Scott,

It sounds like you have much to be excited about with your car. CONGRATS! If I get a spare moment (or hour) I'll download the vids.

A tip on the rear bushings. The local Porsche shop where I had mine put in adds a grease nipple for & aft so that the bushings can be greased - eliminating that horrible squeek. Just an FYI.

Enjoy!

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 10:06 AM

i cant even SSH into my server from BG....hmm. I still need T1....what do you have man?

Posted by: Jeff Bonanno Jan 31 2005, 10:15 AM

tried to ftp and sftp directly to your server from my linux box - can't get there as anonymous or guest. (sorry - not trying to hack, just peek at the vid!)

My server is located here at my house. Its on a Compaq Proliant DL320. Its running Windows 2000 Server and its really just my web/email server. I have a Sonicwall Pro firewall and wireless access within around 50 feet of my house. I have 3 other servers running here but they are just file and print and MP3 servers. With 69 Gigs of MP3's I needed a server just for them. The cable I am on is supposed to be 5mb down and 384 up. The bandwidth right now is really slowing me down even communicating with the club board. It will only last a couple of days though and it will be back to normal.

Yeah, I locked you out with the Sonicwall. It looks for hackers and kills them if they are running Unix or any derivitive of Linux. Just kidding. It says tehre are 23 users now so you may want to wait for a little bit. Its working very hard.

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 10:21 AM

damn dude taht greggin awesome. i have a shared comp runnign XP pro with a 160GB RAID 1 system with over 85GB filled with Divx stuff and music. Um that freggin rocks tho. I wish my stuff was faster for you. IPB Image

Posted by: bd1308 Jan 31 2005, 10:25 AM

needless to say i'm a popular college guy when I ask what movie visitors (to my dorm) want to watch and show them the list of my Divx stuff (from DVDs I own)

Posted by: skline Jan 31 2005, 10:26 AM

Well thanks for trying, it was worth a shot.

Posted by: Rockaria Jan 31 2005, 10:40 AM

If I can get them downloaded I can put them on my server which is currently hooked with fiber directly to a GigaSwitch that will flow onto the internet with a 100Mbps switch and will probably get squeazed to 10Mbps by the time it gets to anyone, depending on your connection to the internet...

They are both downoading just fine to me now at 14KB/sec...

Yep, to far left for me.....

You can only trust the far right!

It can't be real....there's a car blocking the driveway and the Chalon (see I know what it is) didn't pull a superman move & jump over it. Cool editing!

Oh, I forgot....sounds like a Ford IPB Image

Well, you were not that far off, it took three pumps to get it to stop for the corner. Time to throw the power bleeder back on there. I got it out today and took it for a little drive up to put gas in it. Stuck the plate between the driver seat and the rear window. Its now sitting out in the front of the garage outside enjoying the beautiful sunshining day here. Im pretty motivated to work on it so I will keep at it while it lasts and try to get some more done to it.
