Not as pretty as 68-70, but the interiors are awesome with a console that goes into the fold down back seat.
Basically this is a 425 HP hatchback smile.gif

Maybe not as sexy as later models, but for the time, a pretty decent looking fastback. Smooth....

Sweet. Post some photos after you clean it up.

Yes thats a 66, what a Great find!!! Styling is of the time period, they do have cool interiors with the full length consoles, if the 426 badge is telling the truth of what lies in the engine bay, you have found some decent money should you decide to flip it. I agree with the sentiment of more pictures when available!

Sadly I will never be able to lay hands on it. The guy that owns it doesn't need the money. It sits in a pole building with other car stuff, boat motors and piles and piles of truck parts. The building is 54X90 packed to the roof. There is also a 69 Firebird 400 4sp car the guy has owned since new. It was also buried under stuff.

The styling was typical Mopar practice in the day; make a sportier car by cutting off the roof of and existing model and make it a fastback. Then, in the next generation, you can design from a clean sheet. They did it when they turned a Valiant into a Barracudu and then a Coronet into a Charger.

I know it's his decision and property, but people like that are selfish IMHO. Unless they've got plans for their next generation I think vehicles like those should be enjoyed by all. Sure, keep them in the family but don't let em rot in a warehouse somewhere- keep em running and driveable! Show them off! Makes me ill to think it's just sitting there... even odd Mopars need love too! shades.gif

Stay on it............... You never know when he may change his mind.

Sadly, he will sell it to some upscale resto company and it will sell at Barrett Jackson for 5 figures......... I'm all for these beauty being preserved, but hate when it becomes a commercial enterprise, and not a hobby.

WOW.............. I had a 68 back in the day, and could have owned a half dozen of these when I was in High School. MOPAR is crazy these days.

Neat car....

If he doesn't need the money he ought to just give it or practically give the car to someone that would take care of it and respect it (you!)

Sign an agreement that you will not sell it or profit from it?? I know, dreaming ain't I?

Huge building full of 67-72 Chevy truck parts. The truck stuff he sells. I thought about trying to make a deal to restrore his 69 Firebird for the Charger but decided to wait until I get to know him better. He has a son that could be driving age soon....

the charger should not be "restored" it is way more valuable as it is, a survivor!

if the intent is to get it back on the road, then just service what needs to be done to make it safe to drive.

a car like that will get more attention in its current state than if it was "restored".

it is only original just once!

Ha, My pops had a 68 Firebird that he put a 400 4sp in that looked exactly like that in his garage. Basically it was a parts shelf for our VW's / Porsche's and misc crap holder. He sold it for 600 bucks back in 2000 (i think) after the kid picked it up he told me I could've had it if I would have asked for it. headbang.gif So I asked for the 914!!!

the guy knows the history. It was a dealer demo with an 8 3/4 rear, auto trans, power windows and special ordered paint making it one of one. Ya, Id leave it alone.

Not to many of those made. My good friend Don Petty, (yes Richard's brother) has the first one built. Back in the day, at a drag race, a 16 yr old kid won it, dad said to fast for you, and told him he could get the car of his choice. So the kid wanted a MG? A week later he was killed in the MG. So the father kept it for sentimental resons. Don Petty was searching all over for this first car. He found it and made offer, and the Dad refused it. After a few weeks, he called Don to come and make a offer. When they were done with price, Don said can I drive it before it's final. So Don and the Dad got in it and Don got down on that monster motor, then opened the secondarys, and the guy freaked out, and asked Don, what did u do. In all the time he's owned it, he didn't know that you could do that. Can u imagine that. Well the car is all original with 66,000 miles. Same grey color with burgundy interior. Don has a awesome collection of car, all the Chrysler 300 through all years to 66. Also a 69 roadrunner convertible with a hemi. Thats a story to long to write, but it was steal of a fine in South AZ.

Oh, forgot the mention, that he has all the paper work from the drawing and advertising from the drag race track.
