What are the years and models of VW that share our little 4 popper? Particularly the 1.7 d-jet. The word "Porsche" seems to put a glaze over some of these new parts guys, especially when you say "72"!!
not super sure, but up to about 1981 the aircooled 1.7 was available in the vanagon.
I had one...talk about underpowered....

If the part number starts with 111, 113, 311, 411 etc. it's a VW part.
Porsche parts IIRC all start with 9.
411 & 412 Models (type 4) along with late model type 1 Vans (111 p/n)
1968-1972 (411)1679 cc Flat-4
1972–July 1974 (412) 1795 cc Flat-4
Unless it is a VW Bus related part, suggesting a VW 411 or 412 is going to receive an even worse response. You need to dump your present vendor and move on to a real parts supplier…
