If you had to choose one car as a daily driver, which would you choose?
It will get driven ~2x's a week 75 miles round trip through TN back roads.

'72 914 1.7l
Numbers matching
Willow green/tan
~28 mpg
Have core 2.0 to build up when the original engine starts crapping out
Decent shape but quite a few little things need fixing.

'72 914-6 conversion
Zambeezi green/tan
Much, MUCH better condition than the other car.
Currently a 2.2S but will eventually get a high compression 2.4E.

One is obviously faster, but the other is fast enough.
Both handle about the same.
Better gas mileage in the 4.

Dont really need to sell either, but could use some cash for other projects.
Specifically a 71E Targa I want to start working on.

If you don't need the money why sell?

If you need the money for other projects, how much do you need and what would each sell for?

FWIW, I'd keep the 6 and sell the 1.7.

This is really a question? shades.gif

Gas mileage is nice, but you'll get serenaded with that -6 melody thru the countryside.

Sell me the /6 conversion.

The 1.7 might be a 5k car. Needs a bunch of little stuff. Long term will probably be worth more than a conversion?

Conversion is currently in the classifieds. Starting to think I should pull the ad and sell the 1.7? But I just love that little car. Runs awesome, just slow!

Needing money and wanting money are almost the same thing. I could really use it for some projects but don't really need to do the projects.

Sell the 1.7 and you should be getting better mpg than that!

6 bring more Money now. Pick the best body. Sell the other.

If I understood correctly, the 6 is in much better shape. Plus it is a 6. In both categories the 6 wins, hands down.

Keep the /6 unless you hate yourself secretly beneath the surface!

If you sell the -6, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Posted by: Bruce Hinds Nov 24 2014, 04:44 PM

If the -6 is for sale, send us the link to the add.

I agree with Geoff. You should be getting in the 35 mpg range from the 1.7

I'd trade my Raby cammed 2056 in and instant for a well sorted 6. No brainer. If I had both, I'd keep both.

The Six all day long and twice on Sundays.

I will stand up and say you should keep the original car and fix it up.
Sell the conversion because over time, it will never be worth more than an original car.

Build up the 911 to satisfy you 6 cylinder needs.

Thanks for all the input.
Pretty overwhelmingly in favor of the -6.
I have decided to let you guys decide for me; If she sells, great. If not, great!!
Either way I am keeping the 4. She is worth a lot more to me than what I could sell her for.

If you are happy with the performance of the 1.7, ditch the bastard 6 conversion.

You will most likely get more money out of the 6, and more long term value out of the 1.7, especially if you are using it for a commuter.

Do a pink slip (auto title) loan and record a receipt with your rich uncle. Have him advance you the cash, you still keep the car...He keeps the ownership doc. At an agreed upon date you repay him the cash, or hand him the keys.
If you really don't need the money then just keep your 2 teeners !
