914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Austin, TX: Seeking Able and Willing Mechanic

Greetings from Munich!

I have a car in Austin that I want some work done to before having it sent over here.

Is there anybody out there in Austin that is qualified to do a good job at a reasonable price?

Thanks,

Mike in Munich

It'll be interesting to see what people come up with. I've done all my own work for years, so don't really know anything about the local wrenches.

I have had good luck with Moorespeed http://www.moorespeed.com/
They are pricey, but did a very lovely rebuild on my 1976 930.
I have also had quality work done more reasonably at NW Imports http://www.nwimports.com/

Good luck!

Both near DFW airport. Both 914 qualified. I think Mayo over Zim but both with good reputations.

You may also check out "Kenny Hill" automotive. He/They are just off south Lamar. I've seen lots of VW's and Karman Ghia's there. He says his guy is "THE" type 4 guy in the area.

If you are shipping it to Dallas, you can consider Joe McGlohen at Mustard Racing as well, but it is more like 3 hours from Austin to Dallas, unless you are in a low flying plane.

Thanks to all of you guys for the feedback. I'll eventually report on my decision and how it goes.

All the best over there for the rest of this year.
