Obviously I picked the wrong parking spot when I arrived at work this morning.

That painting of the leaf on the side of your car is realistic.

Hey, Carl! What do you do over at Ames? I worked there for a very long time...

I guess that is an easier way to make your 914 water cooled smile.gif

Interesting they are allowed to take pictures there.....we had a few people busted for taking pictures of baby ducks crossing the road here!

Different environment. NASA isn't exactly like other gov't agencies.

I recall back in the early 1970's El Nino very rainy years when I was in college, that the rain got up over the street curbs & we saw many an unsuspecting 914 & 911/912 "up to the gunnels" with water above the rockers! blink.gif

That's why "rust free CA car" is a bit of a fallacy for many of our 914s! sad.gif

PS -

Of course they didn't call it El Nino nor know about it back then.

And IIRC there was a 914 crushed under Olive View Hospital in the `71 Quake!

Man I haven't visited a 914 website in probably 8yrs. Andy posted this link to my FB page, so decided to check it out. -Jason

Carl is my coworker in the engineering division.

I do miss hanging out with you guys. It's been too long.

Ha! Active just like 'silver bullet' is in my garage?

I probably need a jackhammer to get the fossilized dust off that poor thing.

I didn't know that I used 'sliver bullet' on this site. The only user name i have written down is 914S.

Do all three of you still have 14's? (Andy, Mueller, and Dave?) I still have three myself. Needless to say, none run. smilie_pokal.gif

I have two, one running, one not so much.
Mueller is looking for one right now after being without for several years.
Dave is still driving his blue one.

Awesome! Glad to hear you guys are still in the mix (or Mueller soon to be.)

Are there any big 14 events coming up? ... or do those usually occur during summer? It'd be fun to stop in and say hi to everyone.

Posted by: SilverBullet Dec 11 2014, 09:56 PM

Ah! That feels better! It's like old times. welder.gif lol -Jason

What's up Jason? What are you sitting on 3 914s for? Waiting for them to appreciate or something?

Posted by: carl k Dec 11 2014, 11:45 PM

Dave-

Yes, I met you once near the on-base post office. I think my 914 was all white at that point. You noticed I had a 1.7L badge on my '74.

regards,
Carl K.

Ah, cool! So you've been at Ames for a while then. It's been almost five years since I've worked there. I did flight simulation for approximately ever, and then air traffic simulation for a handful of years. In N-243, N-210, and N-257.

Jason, I believe I am running one of your engines in my 914. I bought the car about 6 years ago from Larry Rectenwauld (sp?) in Baxter Ca just above Auburn on I-80. He bought the engine from you off Craigslist. Larry said you built it to autocross and made a few runs on it before deciding to step up to a six. I have a disc of photos from when you built it. I'll post some of the pics later. Welcome back to the madness.

Posted by: Millerwelds Dec 12 2014, 03:08 PM

Did you build this engine? Runs great and still pulls strong. Did you call your car 'Patriot' as some of the pictures refer to? You can see some of the stripped down race car in the background of a few pics.

Hey Rob, I bought an ashtray and something else which I now forget from you at one of the swap meets in your area way back in the day! Small world around these small cars! beerchug.gif

Posted by: SilverBullet Dec 18 2014, 07:28 AM

Morning guys! Sorry for the delay, I neglected to check "Enable emails"

What's up Rob! Yep, sitting on three 14's lol. Good memory! Heck, I have a hard time keeping track of what I have!

One day THEY WILL appreciate! I'm waiting for hover-cars to catch on!

Good to see you on here. What's your 14 status?

Yep, that's my motor! Brad Roberts (shown in photo) built that engine. I merely lent a hand holding an occasional component in place. lol I'm glad to hear the engine is still doing well. I miss that thing! If I had just hung on to it, I'd have a running 14 today. I figured by pulling it out and selling it, it'd motivate me to move faster on a six conversion. lol. Do you have recent photos of the motor installed today? Or the car? Yes, my car was coined Patriot, and Ugly. Depends on the perspective. wink.gif

Small world indeed. That was awhile ago! Ashtray? I hope you've put it to good use? Perhaps I'll see you at the next East Bay breakfast / get together. Marty, Jeff, and I made a pact to do more.

You need to get out more. I know you have lots of hobbies though. I finished Dads car, picked up an ABM project. Living in the burbs with the family.

Way too many hobbies! But if all goes to plan, I'll have my house completed in 6mo's which'll free life up a bit. smile.gif Any pics I can see of your dad's car?

Since i bought the car I have been using it as my daily drive as long as it was not raining. I have only had one problem with the engine in all those years and you can read about it here:

Hey south bay folks,

I nearly NEVER see any of your 914s "in the wild"

Mine is painted and waited for me to get some $ for some stuff.

Next buy is all the body rubber. Fuuuun. Still wondering if I should get "early" or "Late" because on the old body, the "early" let water in over the door glass. . . opinions?
