those are hillarious!
I saw the Smart cars at the Detroit auto show. I think the roadster is pretty cool.
The salesperson told me that when they go on sale the range will be $13-20k.
I think that's a good deal for a unique little vehicle.
a new porsche in my budget range? I'm all over that one....wait is this thing gas or electric?
nevermind....i assumed ti was porsche. I'll never get rid of my 914 now!
Great pictures, I would like to see how Walter Rohl get out of that car???
Now that's Funny!!

The Smart car has been available in Toronto, Ontario for a while. Have seen one on Hwy 401. That is the main highway between Detroit and Quebec. In Toronto it is up to 10 or 12 lanes wide including the collectors.
for those who don't know the original Smart:

wierd little cars. they would never make it here, only in europe
They are selling here. If I remember the writeup price is about 17K CDN and they had orders for about 60 of them.
First guy that took delivery, delivers news papers to several towns 120 miles 1 way each day. He figured he'd pay for the car in fuel savings from what he was driving before in about 6 months.
The write up on them is http://www.mcuniverse.com/The_Smart_Car_Comes_to_Canada.1325.0.html
look for them in dealerships as 2006 models, here in the US!
Here's the roadster version:

they must like citroen 2 cv's.... 3 LUG WHEELS!
Renault also comes to mind when thinking about 3 lug wheels... oh wait... you're not old enough to know what a RENAULT is, Grasshopper...
saw this in New Zeland last year

The original Smart cars are great little things - you see them all over Europe. The are so small that they stack them up about 10 high inside their sign at the dealership. Makes a great advertisement for what they are selling.
They get great mileage and are great for commuting. Parking is a snap. It's too bad that the original Smart isn't coming to the U.S., but the 2-4 and 4-4 both look pretty good.
i want the roadster...1750 lbs....whats the HP???
How about a massive 3 cylinder???

The Smart sedans are available in Canada and are supposedly on back-order.
I was told that the roadster might make it into Canada next year. My son had a chance to drive a Smart roadster in the French alps & said it was a terrific car in the twisties. About the size of an Austin-Healy Sprite BTW.

i really hate watching the big lebowski.....it makes me wanna use the F bomb dude, who makes this? Porsche or not....shut up donny...your out of your element!
Okay so your doing 75 down the free way and a triple trailor truck does roaring by, After you get done rolling you can get out and right it.
As a big guy they look not good. Whats the safty on those things? No crumple zones, its not going to be pretty.

I like the Smart fortwo blade
or the biturbo v6?
the Smart Crossblade (in Europe they call it this way) is a strictly limited special edition - only 2000 were made, every one with serial number on the dash/center console
the Smart V6 Biturbo was just a prototype/showcar - the engenieers wanted to show what's possible
unfortunately this car isn't for production
Loved the pics of the Smart Porsches!
I rented a Smart in Vienna a couple years ago. It was fun to drive, plenty stable up to the 75mph that I drove it. The trans was this really weird automatic that shifted at all the wrong times. The turbo 600cc was plenty for around town. The best part is that they are so short that you are allowed to nose it in against the curb. They are as short as a regular car is wide! I don't know if they will, but I sure hope they do.

Make it in the States that is. Uff.

If the Smart Car had a front door like the BMW Isetta 300,
it would be like a modern Isetta! Kids would love it.
We saw several of them and the little 1/2 fiats when we were in Italy. I think I've seen a couple in San Francisco, or it could be something similar, they were REALLY little tho...good for cities like SF, make more sense than the legions of SUVs, especially the Hummer 2, what a fucking joke as a grocery getter....
Here is a photo of me next to a smart to give you an idea how big this monster car is.
I am 6'2" this car must be like 7'.
A 914 is somewhere around 13'.
I would hate to pull up to a monster truck event fearing they might just put me on their shoulders and throw me into the mud pit, only to later be stuck on the bottom of a monster truck wheel.

I would be all over that tt v6 concept car....
Ohh ya
I got to play with a roadster in the Swiss Alps and Germany last summer. It's cute but has NO trunk space (a case of CDs and a pair of tennis shoes is all that fits) and it shifts at the most ODD times...

So, Birgit, for those of us that are metrically challenged, how fast is 180kph in mph? About, 110? |
I was able to take it to about 120mph.
BTW the sunroof has hard side pieces that can be removed so essentially they tried to make a targa/convertible/sunroof-style. The car only had about 600 miles on it when I picked it up but the convertible top was already broken...The whole thing has a kind of plastic-toy feel to it.
Actually, Porsche has had a SMART style car for several years now. I don't see what all the fuss is about with the new cars. The old one was faster and much better looking in my humble opinion

Now if only I could get a co-driver as good lookin' as Birgit
