a redesign of the mounting and reflector. uses staineless allen bolts ,, reinforced and includes mounting plastic nuts of original design and rubber seal.
probably the first sets will be ready in 2-3 weeks
Price not determined yet but not outrageous or anything
thanks
Greg
Interesting.
Are you selling the tail lights, or performing the service on an exchange basis?
-Rusty
these are New molded plastic lenses will be for sale like i mentioned in abt 3 weeks
I do not want any old ones !
Those would look bitchin' on a silver car...
Jen
I see you sell the smoke lenses too for that "Rice look". I guess the clear rear lenses will sell too.
Geoff

I think the clear lenses will sell very well for the 914 crowd.
I'm tired of the old school Euro lenses and the bland stock ones.
If he can do these.. there should be NO reason he cant dup the OE styles.
Greg,
Are you setup for a hundreds of lenses in production..or is this a onesy twoesy gig for you ??
Can you bring this sample set out to Cal Speedway this coming weekend ?? I will be there and would like to take some better pics of the products and actually touch them.
B
I can provide the answer to that one.
"The lenses are molded in one piece so i would have a problem with the 3 colors maybe in the future.. "
not really set up to make 100s in short order but if the demand was there they could come out at a steady pace It was just a sneak peek ,, I still have some details to work on before they are ready
thanks
Greg
How about clear lenses for the front? That I would be interested in too.
Geoff
Do you plan to make clear lenses for the 911 body? Front and/or Rear?
-Britain
Since we are on the "rice" subject...does anyone know where I can get the piller gauge pods for an early 911? I need a place to put a couple of guages and I don't want to chop my dash up. Do they make these of Porsches? I saw that the turbo boxster in excellence had them...anyone?
-Britain
I *think* a lot of those gauge pods you see on A-pillars have a generic plastic base that you trim to fit the contour of your pillar. So one size fits all.
What about colored bulbs? Are they available?
Greg,
A big thumbs up!!!
Please keep us posted when you get more details
cheers,
Jeroen
Sounds like a good application for LED turn signals. You don't see the color of an LED when you look at it, unlike bulbs that have a colored film on them. If there's interest I could try making up a few prototypes.
-Tony
Could run these type of bulbs behind the lens, I running the bulb that replaces the 1157 dual buld, this buld had 19 leds on it so far so good.
Attached image(s)
can use these for the 1157 dual and the 1156 bulbs
Attached image(s)
Where do you get those?
I think these clear lenses look very cool...keep up the good work. Not for everyone, probably not for me...
But on the right color car they could make a bold statement.
I have seen those LED Bulbs at all of the Local auto parts stores. You can find them at your local "Ricearito" shop as well. Those shops are easy to find. Just look for a parking lot full of ricers or just follow the meggaphone exaust noise right to one!
Greg, I think it's great that you are doing this. With the cost of tail light lens replacements in the very high 3-digits, it's nice to know you are producing an alternative. Keep up the good work.
-Ben M.
From the June 2, 2003 issue of AutoWeek:
"you know those clear tailight lenses so popular with the sport compact crowd?
Well, they're not all perfectlyl legal".
"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fined American Products Co.,
one of the biggest suppliers of the lenses, $650,000, after 'thousands' of
items sold by APC ... were deemed out of complaince with federal law".
"APC countered that it was a matter of interpreting the federal law, and that
all of their lenses are now legal".
Personally, I like the look of the Red, White & Amber euro lenses.
I always assumed that the clear lenses were "illegal." Out here the cops have other stuff to worry about though so your risk is probably low unless you get stopped for something else first.
I'll put clears all the way around on my car (the only reason I hadn't is that there weren't clears available for taillights). My car is metallic green and the orange turn signals and side markers just don't look all that great, a little too much of a halloween color scheme for my taste.
Have fun,
Kevin
I seriously think these will sell. The typical mail order houses.. will be calling him.
B
I'm thinking about taking that picture and using it to start an auction on eBay. I'm guessing something that "rare" could bring at least 400 bucks.
Ha ha...
I know you are the creative type Paul.
I want him to buy a better digital camera.. that pic SUCKS.
B
They do make front turn signal lenses for hte 914, I believe they were used in Italy only and cost a pretty penny over the US and Euro front lenses since not many were made.
The lenses can't go with every car. I would think that silver, white, maybe black would work. On my Signal Orange, it would look like shit and the Euro lenses fit better for the style of the car.
On a side note are you going to be selling the whole housing or just the lenses or can you choose. That'll make a huge difference in price.
Nice concept and it'll definately work, but I think it takes the originality away from the car.
what about a semi-opaque lens in the color of the car? could use the colored bulbs strat was talking about. for those with painted targa tops and no side vinyl that could be interesting.......
Very nice !! I would like to have a pair.
Put me in the list (if the price is not astronomical).
I'd consider (seriously) buying a pair. My car will look weird enough and I have the clear Italian front lenses so these would go along nicely.
Edited...
knock yourself out!
Greg
Would be very interested in a set of the clear rear lenses, there would probably be a few other UK 914'ers who'd like a pair too.
Let us know how much!!
Also, clear indicator (turn signal) lenses are available again from Porsche via their classic parts service: http://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/classic/ClassicParts.nsf/gbrenglish/395FC93AB2E3F493C1256CAA003D4C2C?OpenDocument
Adam
Why make the rear of the 914 into a luna park attraction?
And yes, Porsche spare parts cost mucho dinero (the rear lenses are no exception). But is this a good reason to replace every possible part of the car with some inventive after-market solution?
Not in my book.
I think that they will look ok on some cars depending on color, but I would much rather see a 911R type rear tailight treatment, with 3 circular lights instead of two, and a color matched fiberglass surround. Just my 2 cents Ferg.
well custom lenses Is what I do!I can make them any way you want! any color you want (not multiple colors though not yet) Rarely do i see an all original 914 on the road any way I agree they are not for everyone but enough people have requested such an item that I made it!
Greg
Greg,
I applaud your effort. We need more people making parts and stuff for our cars.
Even if it's something I won't use, I think it's cool for you to do this.
There must be some interest. My auction is doing pretty well.
http://ebay.paulheery.com/ebay1.html
you are so BAD, Paul!
Very well done, Paul!
That is HELLA sweet Paul...
You never cease to amaze me.. too much fun.
B
Paul, that's too funny. I about fell out of my chair.
Thank you for the first smile of the day!
-Rusty
wow too funny I just about had a heart attack when i saw that,,, If they do that well On ebay I will not be making too many because of my Frequent vacations to Hawaii
I can make an all orange lens easy enough ,, It would be ALL orange back up light too,, I could make the orange as dark as stock lenses or very faint orange with the led bulbs It will still appear red when light are on. It is hard to say with a darker orange If the red bulbs will still look red thru the orange lens.
"I can make an all orange lens easy enough"
If you could do that could you take a euro lens and orange out the white\clear backups and make a french lens replica easy??
Now I am just thinking out loud here but...
Couldn't you just take a clear set of the lenses and get some translucent paint and make any color combo you wish? I have done this befor for a display I was making that needed a blue see through window. I just painted with translucent blue and it seemed to work perfectly. Do it from the rear and it should last a long time...
Just a thought or am I freekin nuts here?
Don't listen to Brad, he doesn't know anything about 914's...
It's so rare that he's away from his computer, we must all take advantage of it!! Lyressa, let's do a repaint on your car before he comes back. What do you think about blue??
Jen
Eeewwww!!! No, I think I'll stick with silver... 8^)
And it is YOUR car. Let him do the mechanical, you should make it how you like it....as long as its not pink
That's true. It's one car I will not allow Brad to sell. He had a really cool red one at one time and swore up and down he was going to keep it, and next thing I know, he sold it.
Not this one.
You know brad's motto. Everything's for sale, for the right price.
Jen
The perfect companion. Add this to your diet of rice.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2418350864
you know for $20 I'd consider it for the white car. but not for $35.
I think hot pink would be cool, it was a factory color for a limited run of cars. Hmmm, that might be even more rare than the grasshopper!
Geoff
i would be interested in these for my car....it's a charcoal color, and i think it would look good....my lenses are cracked and I took them off, leaving the reflective material(kinda like what it would look like) and it looks good. I'm sorry if I missed this, but do you know a ball park figure of where these will be priced? thanks!
Greg has not set the price yet. But, I privately asked him the same question. I found his ballpark number to be very reasonable. Send him an email and ask if you would like to know before he publicizes the price.
Airsix...
I'm sorry If it was taken as an insult... it wasn't meant to be sorry.
And I will go and delete my posts and you can go....
Regards,
Okay... It's still nice using the finger guy!
Just a lot of talk on different threads about rice.... hee hee!
I hope he can figure out the multi-color lense issue, because it would sure be better than paying $125 or more a lense!
I think from the responses here, that there is more of a desire for the colored lenses than clear, because it seems that will only look good for certain colors.
I'll consider changing my avatatar too... maybe.
Hey... it's not very easy finding a picture of a bowl of rice on the internet. Pictures of bowls of rice are not really that worthy of posting on the internet.
ok board!!,,,,
I have Heard the masses
I am going to do some experimenting with color in the mold
what is going to excite the masses the most
what are the colors of the world?
USA= clear red red
euro= clear red amber
france = amber red amber (with tiny white flags waving inside)
Italy = clear red clear (was there such a thing?)
any other requests
All amber?
There you go. If you can do it, you will clean up.
Pelican and other places can sell the lenses.
I'd be interested in Navy Blue.
Definately clear/red/clear.
I'd pay to lose the amber/red/clear euro-lenses I'm currently running. The above would go better with my Italian clear front lenses and shaved sidemarkers.
You'll sell every batch you make.
How about something a little different.
amber/amber/clear
This way the backup light would function well, but the amber/amber brake/lamp/turn would be weet. Especially on a tangerine car.
amber/amber/clear?? I'm not getting a good picture
How about hot pink/neon yellow/bright green
No one has suggested periwinkle/mauve/toupe !!
Dumb thought of the moment... would it be possible to make each section of the lens separately with tongue/groove ends? Then you could just make all the different colors and slide the pieces together with some Krazy Glue. My apologies if I'm exposing trade secrets
How about clear/red/red?
Poor Greg. Little did he know what he was getting into. Pretty soon we'll come full circle and everybody will say "Cool, but what we really want is clear." he he he

Hey very nice ! Im going to have to get you to do that for my web site save that!,, as far as price goes ,, It will probably be in the $80 ea or $160 a pair range I want them to be a good deal compared to the $134 ea I paid for my euro lenses
Hey Paul good call on the Pink/yellow/Green
Can't you make a discount for buying 2? Like maybe $140-$150? Instead of doubling the price. I know the price is in the air, but there is more incentive when buying 2
hey guys!
while on the topic of taillights, i saw something highly interesting.
on a BMW, M coupe (souped up Z-3) i paid notice to the flares and the tail lights. they dont wrap around the car like a 914 does. but, my question is, for you people who who have flares, would something like this be your cup of tea? (hard to explain) on the 914, the flares are not long, and dont curve very much, they are big bulges.....and the taillights wrapping around the side cause the flarees to not be as body sculpted/elongated as possible.....okay. just thinkin out loud.....
could you put Z 3 style flares on a 914?
acox: I don't think you would be able to since the flare is part of the rear bumper whereas the flare of the 914 is not part of the rear bumper. I might be getting the question you are asking wrong? Did you want to put Z3/M Roadster Flares on a 914 OR Z3/M Roaster 'Style' Fares on a 914.
Clauss: Will they be able to fit in the Porsche factory housing or do you sell it w/ the housing for these lenses since they are not exact copies of originals. Just wondering
If you can provide a set of lenses that will give me this look, consider them SOLD:
