Not really. If you stick with a 3.0L or 3.2L motor, you don't need a front mounted oil cooler so the engine is a more or less simple plug and play.

I have been told you need a cooler for anything over a 2.4 if you want to do any track time. I am building a mild 2.7 (target 200 hp). Do I need a front cooler if I want to do DEs?

I would imagine that the Porsche 3 litre or 3.2 litre conversion would have a higher resale value, and be easier to sell…

The Suby EZ30D gives you more HP n Torque than that V6. Why that gaudy assed scoop? No question the P6 is an easier install and no arguments regarding resale value. But you'd be hard pressed to do a P6 cheaper, day in/day out, than a non-exotic conversion. Mine was in the 4-5K range.

I know of several street driven 3.2L conversions that run just fine with just the stock cooler on the engine. That's during the summer here in California.

For a track car, i would most certainly recommend a front mounted cooler for any size engine.

Knowing Mike, i don't think he was asking about building a track car ...

That rear "whatever" he has, on a 914, looks like schat. Embarrassing.

Did you catch the link in the comments? The yellow one looks better than this cialis turbo s/u.

If the filter and pipe were 180° it would look like a tail rather than an erection.

just starting to see Prius motors and trans packages on the internet for sale.

I bet you could beat 60 mpg in a 914....
