914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OT Vonage

I'm thinking about giving this a shot, it will cut my phone bill in 1/2 and I can still use my existing phone system.
Anyone experiences from folks here?

I've been using packet8 for a while now. works pretty good. for $19.95 unlimited there's not much room to complain. easy setup, install, and firmware upgrades for when new features come out. only real difference I notice is once you place a call there is dead air for 3-5 sec before it starts to ring. no difference in sound quality compared to POTS line.

i have used vonage for over 3 months and have had no problems. set up was easy and the only time the phone went out was during a blizzard when cable was gone but it rolled over to my cell. no problem.

another great thing are the virtual numbers. my mother in law has brain cancer and we set up a local number in denver that rings us here in mass. that way she doesn't have to dial the extra numbers for a calling card which my father in law has decided are the cheapest way to go (moron). only $5 a month and it sure makes her life easier.

if you want to go with vonage let me know, i would be happy to be your referral so i can get some free service!!!!

my brother in law uses them and loves it. Gonna switch myself soon.

VoIP is happening right now!!!!

I just got Vonage as well. Some cool features and no problems to report as of yet, except that I can no longer whine about the $20 in taxes and fees I paid on my $54/mo. unlimited plan. Being out of Verizon's 37% tax bracket gives me broadband and phone for less than I was paying them just for phone service.

I want to sign up with vonage, but my wife is leary of switching.

Is it possible to have DSL without phone service?

Don't use it myself, but have a friend who's been on it for about two months. He likes it. I talk to him on the phone and I can't tell the difference - quality is just as good as any other regular pots service. No delay or echo or anything like that. I'm impressed enough to be interested. They don't have local numbers in our county yet so he got a toll-free number for an extra $5. In a few months when they have local numbers here I might give it a try.

I've been doing research.
SunRocket seems to have the best price right now with an annual plan of $199 and no setup fees, etc...cancel anytime and get a refund for unused months, etc...

I'm using Broadvoice. It cost me $60-odd to get rolling. $25/mo for unlimited calling to uk, france, germany, china, tw, israel, aus, nz, and lot more.

I pay an extra $1.50 for a uk number as well.

I just signed up for https://sunrocket.com/index.html.
I went the annual method of $199 which works out to $16.xx per month.
That will save me approx $45 every month! smilie_pokal.gif

I hope the service is good.
It's got all the normal phone services:
call waiting, caller id, voicemail, 911, etc...as well as a second line.
I am going to make the # of line 2 a Southern California # so my
friends there can call me for free. biggrin.gif

Don't discount calling cards. You can easily find nationwide long distance for 2 cents per minute. $10 buys you 500 minutes.

Someone asked about using DSL with these voip phones. You can but you can't cancel your regular phone to save money.
