914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1975 Porsche 914

Trying to help a single mother who is being badly ripped off by "Strictly German" in Pasadena CA. They have had her car for over 6 months and nothing has been done. Her budget was $800 when she brought the car in.

What makes this a horrific story is that she is a single mother with three sons. First son suffers from severe Hemophilia A with spontaneous bleeding and is legally blind. Second son suffers from epilepsy with nocturnal seizures. Third son is ok. This car was their only mode of transportation and would have been used for groceries, etc.. They do not have a car and must take buses and walk.

She is a brilliant sculptor and is barely making ends meet. The only wish she has is to have her 1975 Porsche 914 repaired and running.

Her story is truly compelling, and deserves to be made into a film. I can't tell you how many times her Hemophiliac son has cheated death. Just incredible story.

Her name is Jessica and her sons are Leonardo, Brian and Vance. They live in Arcadia, CA.

If there is anybody in the 914 community that can help or offer some sort of lead to fix Jessica's car, please contact me.

My name is Nick and I can be reached via email at: nigolusa@icloud.com, or my cell number (626) 979-4230.

I am a family friend and have sacrificed so much for them. The 914 is a dream I cannot fulfill since I am unemployed.

Thanks all for your help and resources.

Do you have any info on the car of what it's doing or not doing? I would love to help, and I'm sure others on this board as well. If this is low budget and you wouldn't mind getting your hands dirty, we can most likely walk you through most repairs.

I have a friend who I think still lives in Mendocino. He is an old VW fan from way back.I know he can do about anything on air cooled motors.I don't think he has his own shop but probably access to one by now. He may be in the book his name is Jeremy Stevers. If you are really hard up you can probably find an Erin Stevers his sister or most any stevers in the area. Last I knew he lived in the ten mile area on the lost coast!! I hope you can find him. he is A kind friend!! Probably tuner right up for a solid?just tell him you heard about him from jo funk in Sandpoint Idaho!!Peace!!

Heh--Mendocino is a loooong way away from Pasadena. Something like 8 hours' drive, or more.

Any idea what needs to be done to the car?

That's scary! Will they release it w/o a shit storm? Most newbies are diagnosing their own cars within 6 month's. Very surprising that a "real mechanic" would struggle. If it's not a "hard part" or internal to engine we can have her going in a jiffy. What was the original problem? Stock? Year? Engine size?

Even if it's engine I imagine someone has a 1.7 kicking around. idea.gif
I really hope she can get it back and going. I would get it out of there PDQ.

I hate to say this, but this is not the car for a person that either can not turn their own wrenches or pay to have it fixed.

It's some kind of electrical problem he can't fix. Now 6 months later he tells her why don't we do away with the fuel injection and put a carb on it. This guy is dicking her around hoping she will give up and sell it to him for $500 so he can put a 6 banger and sell it for $15,000. He's a real pig that guy. Makes me feel sick that he is part of the Armenian race.

The car has electrical issues, needs a new clutch reviewed that has been put in. Needs some shifting linkage and transmission checked out. It is a great car and her only joy left in her life apart from her kids.

I'm sure she should would gladly have it shipped to somebody who is willing to work on it and her budget is around $1,000. Also, there are some parts left over.

Let me know, if you would be interested depending on your expertise.

Thanks so much

Anyone is planning to have a day of garage work help for the family to fix the car? If need an engine, I may be willing to share my spare engine (1.7 but looks like a rebuilt engine mix with bus and 914 parts). And maybe some parts than I can share also. And my labor if we can have a day of garage work for them. And my other suggestion for the family "although it's mother's dream car" is to trade it to a 4 or 5 seater car that will be practical for the family!

God bless this family!

If you're interested, would gladly ship it over to you. You can take your time her budget is around $1,500 tops!! Let me know. She lives in Aracadia, CA and I can rent a auto trailer and deliver it 100 mile radius.

I'm out w/ LJet (I suspect that is the alleged electrical issue too) but up for anything else I can help with. Maybe Ron (or anyone else close) would let us tow it there and we could do an assault one Saturday???

Not sure I understand? Tow it where? I can offer towing to anybody who wants to help Jessica and her kids. Can you be more specific? She lives in Arcadia CA but I can rent a trailer and ship it 100 mile radius.

Let me know.

Thanks for the thought though, really appreciate it!!!! We will find someway to do this.

I sent a personal email to the owner of Auto Atlanta and asked him if he could help her. Waiting for a reply. I'd spring for the shipping $1,500 round trip. But at least they are experts and they would do it right. Hopefully he will give her a major break on the price. Waiting to see.

Not really a car for a family. Maybe she should sell it for $4-5K (?) and if you donated the 1500 you are willing to use to send it to AA she could get a modern, reliable larger car. Btw, search on this board for AA.

I know of a long time Porsche shop just down the freeway from her in Whittier. I'm going there on Monday, will try to explain the situation, and see if he can take on a quick project. He's a great guy and very knowledgeable. As far as you know it's just an electrical and clutch problem? Dave

Good God that would help tremendously. She's been promised by many to fix it, they all flaked out. She's a soldier of life. She's fought 1000 battles. She deserves this small favor from the community. The only wish she has ever had is to see her car running again. Let me know. My email is: nigolusa@icloud.com. Cell: (626) 979-4230.

Thanks again.

P.S. She's very scared of mechanics at this stage. Let's not promise her anything unless it's real. Thank you so much!!!!!

The car is at "Strictly German" in Pasadena, sitting there for 6 months, not at her house. It's only 15 minutes away.

I have to go there and take it out via AAA or something. Will do that next week and bring it to her home in Arcadia.

Thanks Timothy. I'm not sure how to handle this. Meaning do I take the car where it can be worked on, or do I invite everybody to Jessica's house. She has a new landlord cause she's renting. Have no idea if she will let her work on a car in the front of the house.

Have to think this one out.

Yes before it rained in the compartment 3 years ago or so, it ran great. After the rain it wouldn't start. Four people tried to fix it, all failed. When it was roadworthy, it ran great. Problems were grinding 1st, loose shift linkage, clutch fried, engine ran great. All the cosmetics of the car is not important. The mechanicals are so I can help her to go to grocery store, etc...

The mechanic at Strictly German suggested a carburetor instead of fuel injection since it is smog exempt. No idea if this is smart or not.

Well he fucked up the Mass Air Flow Sensor, cut opened it up, left it out in the open, the rain is filled the plastic piece exposing all the electronic wires. Just sitting there full of water with rust appearing. What a bastard.

I told her she needs to take the bastard to small claims court.

Sorry we gave this idiot tons of changes and I know his game. He's waiting until she gives up so he can buy the car off for $500. Then he'll put in a 6 cylinder engine and sell it for $15,000. What a pig.

Mass Air Flow Senor, that large grey piece with the small black cover. He cut the cover and the electronics were all exposed. Left it in the rain, the little compartment is full of water.

Not a cheap piece to replace I hear.

Those green colored fuel injectors look like they belong on a 2.0 D jet, not a 1.8 Ljet system. Did the mechanic install these?

Posted by: ndfrigi Jan 23 2015, 09:24 PM

Wow the engine looks cleaner than my 75 1.8FI also. Yes I think the injectors are not for 1.8.

I'm sure if we can get some member here to gather one day to hang out with that car and fix those things.

Well, funny you should ask. It was a X Highway Patrol officer who fixes porsches that put those on. That guy tried to rip us off too.

I can't even tell you the hell she and I have been through to get this car fixed.

The mechanic should of caught that though, those injectors flow twice as much as needed. Try to get this car towed to your house, and in the meantime, post a WTB ad in the classified section for some L jet fuel injectors.

Thanks everybody for pitching in. I can tell you so much about Jessica, that she's an incredible mother, an incredible sculptor, an incredible friend and an incredible fighter. Suffice it to say if I was going to battle, I would want her on my side!!! She's endured more than a human should. She cheated death in her teens. Later when she gave birth to her first son, the doctors in Argentina had no idea he was a Hemophiliac. He was hemorrhaging in the brain, they operated on him, was supposed to be clinically dead, but she refused to give in and demanded the doctors continue working on him. Her whole life changed. She came to the states, her husband abandoned her, she was left alone to care for this fragile crystal of a child suffering from severe Hemophilia A with spontaneous bleeding and legally blind. Now he's a college student at Pasadena City College in California. An incredible story that should be made into a movie. I can write for a week and tell you all stories you wouldn't believe!!!

Jessica is truly a soldier of life and deserves the communities support.

Again thank you everybody for any and all help.

About the car. Being a personal friend I tried fixing this car myself with the help of 914World members about 2 years ago. I can tell you what I learned was at fault with the 914.

Whatever work I did on the car was based on reading articles, youtube, etc... I'm not a mechanic.

1. Gas gauge not reading fuel tank level
2. Shift linkage loose, bushings are shot
3. Transmission 1st gear grinding
4. Has a new clutch but questionable work by independent mechanic
5. Has a refurbished starter. Not sure if done correctly
6. Lights overall dull in the car, I believe a grounding problem
7. Engine, was not bad at all when it was running 5 years ago
8. Suspension fair I think it needs shocks and springs in back
9. Wrong injectors
10. All the plumbing for smog has been removed but kept in box
11. Interior needs carpet, door panels, visors, seats are good
10. Gas tank was completely cleaned and installed by yours truly. I almost caught on fire by the way
11. Refurbished Bosch fuel pump installed with proper fuel lines, strainer, rubber washers etc.. from Auto Atlanta. And thanks to the owner for taking time and explaining some things to me via phone conversation.
12. Needs pedal board
13. New double relay
14. Missing aluminum trim over top right side front windshield
15. Weatherstripping around removable top poor condition
16. Trunk brass washers. My god, that was torture to install but did it!!!
17. Missing hinge for engine bay cover

That's about all I know from attempting to work on her car. I tried but couldn't get it to start.

I believe the $700 is for a wiring harness, but I'm not sure if he's doing L-jet ones. However, I'd bet he has a line on the plug bodies. And he's a nice guy to boot. He may have some old plastic plug bodies on hand that he could send down, or he may know where to get them new.

That's awesome I'll definitely contact him soon as I get that car out of the pig mechanic "Strictly German" in Pasadena. That SOB has been promising her that car for over 5 months. How can you promise something to this single mother and not deliver. I feel so bad for her and Leo, they've been taking buses and walking. And, Leo can't walk long distances because of hemorrhaging in his joints. That pig knew all that too. The lowest scum on earth. That SOBs name is Duran a real pig of the highest magnitude.

You should be buying parts on world, not eBay. I'm sure a world member can sell you the right injectors for half the eBay price. If you already have injectors, mr injector cleans, replaces screens, seals and hose and checks flow rate of used ones for $15/each and only charges for the ones that he gets working correctly. I've used his service and have been extremely pleased. Other companies provide the same service but he is the cheapest, fast turnaround and great customer service.

Like it or not, her best option would be to sell the car while prices are strong, running or not it will still bring good money if it's in the shape it has been described as. She appears to need a car that suits the needs of her family, not just one for her and 1 passenger.

IMHO

Posted by: JStroud Feb 11 2015, 09:12 AM

I think her best option is to get the car out of that shop, they obviously don't know 914's. She's just racking up a bill and nothing productive is being done. And speaking of productive, to keep telling her to sell her car is not helping to get it running. I thought we were here to help people with their cars, not encourage them to give up.

Since no one in the area has offered, it's a ways, but if you get the car out of the shop it's in, you're welcome to bring the car to my shop at my house. I have a lift all the tools we would need and a lot of members in the area who would come over and help. We can get her car back on the road....no charge. Only problem is I'm near Sacramento so getting it here could be a challange. But if you can get it here, I'll make sure it gets back on the road for her.
First you need to get it out of the shop, regardless of where you take it.
I would try and get out of the carb deal if she can, if he hasn't installed it maybe he can send it back to reduce the bill to get the car out of there.

Good luck, no one should have to give up their dream car!!!

Jeff

I just looked at the reviews and there are a couple of dingers (one is yours, calling the guy the lowest form of scum) but all the other comments were positive and the ratings almost all five stars. Has anyone else in the area actually talked to the shop and asked what's going on? No chance there's been a misunderstanding? I don't mind it when a bad shop does bad work and gets called on it, but having run a shop I know that things aren't always black and white. Might help if a 914-knowledgeable third party got involved and could find out what's going on.

Like what 76-914 said last jan. 23. Can this car be towed to Ron or maybe someone here in OC or South of LA and have a saturday garage work to help fix this car? I am willing to join and help also. If I didn't get a complain last month from the city about my 71 1.7 project on my driveway (which is only been there for a couple of months and I'm sure they noticed that I'm fixing it). I'm willing to bring that car to my place if I didn't get that complaint letter.

Well, please someone who has a garage storage is willing to help! It's been a month since the family is asking for help and now ending up two shops are already making some money out of it and not even able to run or fix the car.

This post makes sense to me. As well as budk's a couple of posts back. All we have here is one side of the story from some one on this forum about a woman with a most impractical car for a family. I admire everyone's generosity and willingness to help, but something here seems a bit off. My spidey- sense is tingling! I apologize up front if I'm wrong. I'd like to know the shop's side of this saga. On Jan. 23, Nick said he was going to get the car out of the shop in a week. It's been over 2 weeks. Is it still there? The more I follow the thread, the less real it becomes. I hope I'm wrong, but something ain't right!

OK understood. You can send the independent party to "Strictly German" in Pasadena, CA @ Address: 2435 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107
Phone: (626) 440-1242 Owner name: Duran

You can have the independent party ask him why he's been promising the car repaired for over 6 months and not delivered.

Also, we can furnish doctor numbers and medical records for both her 26 year old Leonardo who suffers form severe Hemophilia A with spontaneous bleeding and partially blind. Also, her 14 year old who suffers from nocturnal epileptic seizures.

We can prepare a dossier and put it all online with Jessica's 25 year history, detailing everything she had to endure while raising 3 boys on her own.

But please understand, she loves her 914. That's really all that's important here.

I just don't get it.... we all have our dream cars or objects but one must be able to face reality and look at the big picture and decide if ones "dream" car is just something that might never happen or should be put off until a better time.

Not to be an ass, but why on earth would someone want an old uncomfortable 2 passenger car when you have 4 people in the family?

She could be given a brand new 0 miles 914 and it would still be a totally crappy choice of vehicle in her current situation.

Someone needs to talk some sense into this woman. I applaud her for taking car of her kids, but wanting a 914 in her current situation is crazy.

Someone needs to talk some sense into this woman. I applaud her for taking car of her kids, but wanting a 914 in her current situation is crazy.

I own and drive my 914 in lieu of having a therapist on call..... Cheaper, and makes me happier....

Posted by: monkeyboy Feb 11 2015, 05:44 PM

Honestly I can't agree more. I am not here to judge, but it sure sounds like the car should be towed to her house and parked for a more appropriate time.

At this point she needs something that can fit the family. A nice 4 door Civic or Corolla. The 914 can be made right in due time.

I am working my tail off to get my dad's dream car up and running. Why? Because the guy let it sit while his kids got everything they needed. Now that I am in a position to get what I want for myself, I want to see him enjoy it. There is a time and place for toys, and that is after your responsibilities are met.

agree.gif poster and car owner may be on the up and up but in my mind it just reads wrong. I would think a little my investigation by an independent party is warranted before parts or money is sent.

Nick,
You are a good guy for helping her out. I get it. I don't want a dossier or to call anyone's doctors. They aren't gonna talk to some guy like me out of the blue about a stranger's medical records anyway. There has been a lot of bashing of a garage with only one side of the story. If I was the business owner, I wouldn't talk to an outside party about someone else's car or their situation. I'm a business owner. Trust me, there are 3 sides to every story: mine, the client and the truth.
I thought you were going to get the car over a week ago. Has that happened?
You also say she loves her 914 and "that's all that's important here." I disagree. You are asking for the generosity and resources of strangers, so we have a right to question why that impractical car is more important than reliable transportation or other necessities of life. It sounds like a reordering of priorities is needed.

Good detective work. Things are a bit more clear to me now. Looks like there's more to the story than meets the eye. Methinks Nick and Jessica used to be, or maybe still are, together. Same story used 3 years ago. Hmmmm.

Nick, for someone trying to do a good thing you give up so quick. People here have questions, no big deal just questions.
you have been offered a ton of help, but you have to take the bull by the horns to make it happen. I am sure you know somebody that has a house that you could haul the car to, set up a BBQ work party and the car would be running on a saturday.

this could and would happen with out any sad story behind it. it has happened numerous times in the past.

Now the issue whether the car is right for Jessica, my vote is no, constant dependability is needed for her children's care. I have a child with special needs and would never take the chance that 914 wouldn't be able to take her to her therapies and such.

your previous post about the same car, do put a negative light on this though and you probably need to be straight with the non-members here.

I believe you will be surprised at the turn out once you get this organized

Posted by: nigolusa Feb 11 2015, 06:48 PM

Since Dr. Bill thinks he's discovered the smoking gun so cleverly, lets recap.

I nor Jessica ever asked for money. We also never asked for free parts.

All that was shared was pictures of the car, Jessica's personal story and the actual location of the car in Pasadena, CA (Strictly German).

IF, the 914 community wanted to help Jessica get her car back on the road, that's wonderful. But Dr. Bill, if you think for a minute you've saved the 914 community from a spooky mysterious single mother con-artist, than you haven't done your homework. In fact, I can almost guarantee, you're one of those prowling conspiracy theorists. You couldn't be more wrong. And it's a real pity, because if anybody deserves help, it would be her.

I'll try to contact Jay Leno and maybe even run a crowd funding campaign to get her dream car back. Kind of ironic isn't it Dr. Bill. I actually tried to get help from a 914 community.

Thanks so much 914world for all the fabulous support. You can thank Dr. Bill for saving the day!!!

Funny , I have been watching this thread closely . Lots of us here waiting to help with parts or labor. I feel like enough is told about the situation. The same story keeps repeating over and over . We know everything we need to know and ready To help.
Let's get the car somewhere we can make it Happen.

My 2 cents

Posted by: nigolusa Feb 11 2015, 07:25 PM

Here is the latest update that will shed a very CLEAR light on this project.

Jessica's intentions are as follows:

1. Fix her 914 with original parts and make it a solid runner and looker
2. Sell the car in a price range between ($6,000 - $8,000)
3. Use this money towards a dependable 4 door sedan for her and kids

2nd option

I am personally in the process of finding her an individual and/or corporation who is willing to donate a dependable running car. I've contacted the Hemophilia Society of California and some other non-profits. Unfortunately, I cannot find anybody willing to donate a car for this family. I've also contacted Leonardo's Pharmacy. His medication which is called Factor VIII, costs $3,000 an infusion. Multiply that by 3 per week and that's $36,000 a month just to keep him alive. I thought his pharmacy would be wiling to help. No idea their intention.

I'm also thinking to raise money and awareness through crowdfunding resources. Create a video starring Leo and chronicle his everyday life without a car. Perhaps people can see how difficult it is for him and his mother and brothers to get around.

Ultimately, YES she needs dependable transportation for her and her kids. That's the primary goal.

But, I'm trying to get her the best of both worlds. Because she loves that 914 and she deserves to keep her car, PERIOD!!!

I want to get her 914 fixed, as well as find an entity who is willing to donate an automobile.

Let me know your thoughts and if you have any great leads. I need to get this family a car and very very soon.

Let's hope I can accomplish both!!!

Thanks again and yes I do have confidence in people. It's just I'm the type of person that wouldn't hesitate for a second. Knowing what I know, I would give them the shirt off my back, so to speak. I'm sure you can appreciate that.

Nick,
I am confused by your comment??
I personally would feel more comfortable if your 914 women friend came on this site so we get to know her better before this group spends time and money to help her out. All we know is your story of her suffering. Probably true, but confused24.gif a personal facetime would be wonderful by her.

Nick, I was the one who posted some of your previous links that Dr. Bill referenced. You need to understand that this community bends over backwards to help each other, especially a select few who seem to be the backbone to this site. You also have to understand that this forum, and others, have had their fare share of those looking to take advantage of the community.

For me I read this thread and saw numerous inconsistencies in your story, and one that stood out was the increasing budget. Another one that stood out was a lack of action on your part when several were offering to help.

However, I was curious what history you have with your car and whether or not Jessica's car has been previously mentioned by you, therefore I did a quick search to get a better idea of the types of issues that might have been worked on in the past. 914 Teener did the same research in your May 22, 2014 post.

The posts speak for themselves. It appears you inherited a '75 1.8 in '08 which is evidently now Jessica's and still plagued by issues that date back to when you obtained the car. It would appear this car is not her daily transportation, and being the father of three, I'm skeptical of a teener being used as sole family transportation.

I'll let the left coast gang determine your legitimacy.

As for this comment, "Since Dr. Bill thinks he's discovered the smoking gun so cleverly...", before you throw darts at specific members of this community, Dr. Bill in this case, at least get your facts straight as to where the research came from and confront the correct member.

Nick,
You never answered the question about why you haven't gone and retrieved the car from the shop. On Jan. 23rd, you stated you were going to get it in a week. Have you?
No one here on this forum will be able to help you work on the car if it sits in the shop in Pasadena, correct? Let's keep it the about the car. No one here needs a sob story to be willing to help. Heck, they helped me just because I asked. Why are you so hell-bent on slamming Strictly German? Do you think everyone on here will rally to the picket line and somehow help you "get back" at that establishment? That's a job for Angie's List. If you want it running, cut your losses, go get the damn thing and let some of these generous folks who have offered to fix it at their homes get to it. Otherwise, it's all just BS. bs.gif

Posted by: 914bub Feb 11 2015, 10:39 PM

I'm calling BS based on the previous threads. Tell the truth and " the world" will help

Posted by: nigolusa Feb 11 2015, 10:41 PM

OK,

Once again, the car is at Strictly German in Pasadena. Supposedly he wants $1,000 for installing a weber carb all after six months. So now, we have to figure whether to go to small claims court or pay this guy $1,000.

That is why the car is not at home. I do not have the money to pay for it, and Jessica is waiting for her tax return.

But honestly, I think this is becoming a nightmare and maybe it's not fair to ask anything from anybody in this forum.

Let's just say this project is DOA and leave it at that.

If anybody knows how to delete this thread please let me know. I made a huge mistake coming here in the first place.

Its becoming a nightmare. Not worth my time any longer.

I didn't get the part about having three kids and the only car you have is a 2 seat non runner. Aren't there old serviceable Accords/Civics out there by the hundreds you can buy for under $1500?

I could be wrong as I "skimmed" the thread, so forgive my assumptions if they were wrong. Sounds like somebody trying to help somebody who is hurting and that's always a good thing.

Posted by: rhodyguy Feb 12 2015, 11:24 AM

The car could prob be sold, dependent on chassis condition, as is with the funds applied towards a decent second generation legacy wagon. It would be the ideal car for a single mother with children. Perhaps enough $ would be left over to cover the insurance for the year. Dreams are just that, DREAMS. Sometimes one has to wake up to the realities of life. 1k is an odd number. Too even. I wonder if a storage lien is in place?

I think we'll be sending the car to Auto Atlanta. The owner is a brilliant man and a real professional engineer. I've personally talked to him on a few occasions.

The service department there quoted me between $3,000 - $5,000 to get the job done RIGHT!!!! Not by amateurs, but by real professional mechanics.

This is all my fault, I should have done this in the first place.

Well I think I'll part with $1,500 of my own money and send it round trip to AutoAtlanta. At least I'll know 150% it will get done right.

Jessica's tax return will pay for the actual repair.

Since this simple request has turned into a conspiracy theory, it's probably the best course of action.

A 1975 Porsche 914 1.8 on AutoAtlanta's website was going for $10,000.

I figure if we invest $6,000 we could easily sell it for $10,000 or maybe more.

Hey, she just wants the car done right. Is that so difficult?????

Posted by: timothy_nd28 Feb 12 2015, 03:21 PM

I'm still confused. I can understand why the shop gave up with diagnosing the Ljet FI and slapped a carb onto it. Shouldn't the car be running now with this new carb?

after you pay

$1000 to Strictly German
1500 to ship
5000 K to AA
you will have a solid 6 K car to sell

make sure you have him put a new speaker cover set in, and 1 of his race lightened fans, and don't ship it back until you get the new dash

My god please call him and ask him, DURAN the owner why he has held on to this car for 6 months.

Strictly German Auto Repair
2435 E Colorado Blvd
Pasadena, CA 91107

Phone number (626) 440-1242

When my Chevy Aveo was on it's last leg, he volunteered to fix the car for labor cost only. One month later, nothing happened. I was walking and taking buses with Leonardo everywhere. I ended up salvaging the car.

I really do not understand where this guy's head is. Why promise when you can't deliver????

His exact words were, "Why didn't you come to me in the first place". He's quoted this line on more than one occasion with no results.

As far as the EFI, no clue. It's a grand mystery. The car is just sitting there collecting rust. The EFI is totally dismantled with water filled inside the plastic electronics casing. I spent $400 for that air flow meter. Now it's junk.

You thinks wrong. He wants $1,000 after six month for installing a weber carb.

Posted by: timothy_nd28 Feb 12 2015, 03:51 PM

In a earlier post, you mentioned that this mechanic removed the FI and installed a single carburetor, is this correct? If yes, I can only assume that the car now runs. Even though installing a carb isn't the best repair IMHO, the car should be drivable. Why not pay this mechanic the 1000 dollars he wants and drive the car? You can always reinstall the FI at a later time.

That's pretty much where we are at. Have to go see if in fact the car runs, because when I asked, he seemed wishy washy about the state of its drivability.

At this point I really think we're going to small claims court if it's not running.

Will find out this weekend on Saturday.

I'm just fed up. I've been there numerous times and it's always the same, i'll get it done, etc.. etc... I'm really fed up.

I don't mean to be mean, but judging from the pictures you have posted I don't see that car being a 10K car when repaired.

It's a 75, big bumper car. It's not especially clean, and not especially original. I can't see it selling for much more than 7,500 right now. There are cleaner cars out there.

Please do not take her money and think this is an investment. You will probably not be happy with the end result.

I cant Imagine why this auto repair guy who has a license would install a carb on a f/I motor. The epa could shut him down for this and the fines are astronomical. Epa rules are no joke, and you already said all smog parts are removed and boxed. It is Illegal to SELL this car unless all F/I and smog replaced. You can argue all you want but check epa rules first.

Not necessarily. We have periodic group rants where we folks who've "contributed to AA's success" have a bitch-fest about our pain. But then there are always a few folks who've had good experiences who pipe up, I think just to piss the rest of us off even more.

Look, some advice. You want to get that car running? Your best bet was Slits, who's a really good guy, but you burned that bridge. Next best was help from the folks here, but the people here are really good too, so you really didn't need to "tell a story" to get that. Unfortunately that bridge is pretty much gone as well. If you've got the money to send the car back to Georgia then you have the money to have the shop finish putting that carb on your car. It's not the best solution but it will get it running, then sell it. If you get $5k for it you're ahead on the deal. Last option is send it back to AA along with five thousand bucks you don't have and let George do some "magic" on it. We generally like happy endings around here so we don't even want to know how that works out for you.

So that's the advice, whatever you think about Strictly German, the best and cheapest option you have available is to have them finish the car, then get rid of it. From the history it's apparent this has been going on for years already, so dump it now and get a more conventional transportation appliance. Seriously.

If anybody knows of a mechanic with that kind of charm, brilliance, modesty and encyclopedic knowledge of automobile mechanics, please let me know.

Ed China famously misdiagnosed the situation with that car. He said the thermostat failed, which was the cause of overheating. That's wrong. Everyone who's owned a Type I, II, III, or IV air-cooled car knows that the thermostat fails in the open position to prevent overheating.
Ed seems like a nice guy, just pointing out an error he made.

Also, I think between $80-$120/hr is what you're going to pay for an honest, fair, and competent mechanic that specializes in vintage sports cars. And then the people who are real artists in the trade, the guys you go to for the truly high end, concours quality stuff, are going to charge a hell of a lot more than that.

Step 1: Find a REAL 914 mechanic

You're wrong, I haven't insulted everybody on this board. But the dim wits who are making wry comments about my intentions to help her get her 914 back on the road, well those people shouldn't comment at all.

Facts:
1. I am not married
2. I live in Las Vegas, NV
3. I came to Los Angeles because they were evicted from their Pasadena, CA home
4. I parted with $7,000 of my own cash to help them move and find a new home to rent. I personally moved 75% of their entire home and garage.
5. The Porsche 914 once is done, will be given to her son who turns 16 next year.

So basically I sacrificed my money, time blood sweat and tears to make sure they are safe.

SOOOOOO, not to insult anyone and GOD HELP ME, I'm shutting my mouth and have it duct taped along with my fingers and arms.

I don't want to say something I will regret.

All I want is to help them, and I'll be on my marry way back home.

Again, if you know of an EXCELLENT MECHANIC, you can call Jessica directly.

Thanks so much for all your support.

I'm impressed, Ron. I already had a pretty good opinion of you (though normally I'd never say that out loud) but now you've gone and surpassed that. Good job.

Nigolusa, friend, Ed China is now an ACTOR. I'm totally surprised Ron made that offer and if you don't take him up on it and keep insulting real mechanics your ONLY recourse will be calling Pick N Pull to haul it away.

Until the car is off the property of the current mechanics shop the search for a new mechanic is fairly useless.

If the bill hasn't been paid, running or not, I doubt he'll just let anyone drive on up and tow it away unless he just wants the headache gone.

You posted on this board in 2009 looking for help for the 75 YOU had recently purchased. A google search shows that you and Jessica have the same last name and are the same age. Maybe the info on the internet is false? confused24.gif

But based on that google search this is not the first time that Jessica has had problems with a mechanic fixing your her car. Did Jay Leno ever answer your letter about needing help fixing your 2004 Aveo?

She's waiting for the H&R Block electronic tax return next week.

Then, she'll pay the guy IF it is actually done. He's been promising for so long, only god knows if it's true. I've called him on many occasions. I personally visited him with one of her kids. The car was not touched.

It is a true mystery that only Duran owner of Strictly German can answer. I'm baffled and lost.

NEVER got any answer from Mr. Leno about the Aveo or the 914.

In fact, the guy at Strictly German back in 2014 asked me "What's wrong with your Aveo"? I told him it's dying. He exclaimed, "Well why didn't you come to me". SOOO, he promised to fix it. It sat for a month and was never done. I had no choice but to salvage it. And oh, by the way, the 914 was still in his garage.

SOOO, I wrote a letter thinking that maybe Mr. Leno could help me get the Aveo back on the road. You see, Jessica doesn't drive. So I've been a part time chauffeur when I'm in California. I didn't have $3,000 to replace the engine on the Aveo back then.

Any other questions Mr. Holmes?

If anybody is familiar with the show "Wheeler Dealers" on Speed Channel, you've seen Ed China at work. In fact there was a show in which he diagnosed a 914 with cooling problems related to the flaps underneath the car and other issues.

If anybody knows of a mechanic with that kind of charm, brilliance, modesty and encyclopedic knowledge of automobile mechanics, please let me know.

We are actually looking for THAT caliber of professionalism in a mechanic.

OH and by the way, I seriously doubt Ed China would charge $120 per hour. He'd probably be fair, honest and diagnose only what's needed. He's that kind of classy guy smilie_pokal.gif

I pray there is somebody of that caliber in California. If there is, Jessica would be more than happy to part with $3,000 of her tax return to get the car fixed by a REAL PRO!!!

Thanks Ron, but you don't know Jessica. She's a gladiator and fought 1000 battles. Her son was clinically dead in Argentina 25 years ago. She summoned the doctors back to the operating room and didn't let him parish.

I'm not making any judgments about you, but trust me, you DON"T KNOW HER until you walked in her shoes!!!! You really have no idea who you're dealing with. So that statement you made about her, is COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE!!!! Note: Think before you strike the match. It's easy to type on the computer in the privacy of your own home. But face to face, there is where the reality stands!!!

If you still expect help from someone on this board who hasn't read through all of this thread to see the truth, then you may want to stop with the off-handed threats.

You still didn't address the fact that there's a website using our same username talking about the same "Jessica" who you've stated was a single mom... however on that website "nigolusa" claims she is married.

You basically called our friend Ron a liar when he tried to help you several years ago.

Your story changes each time you have posted here over the past few years and now you're even taking on a threatening tone.

Three strikes you're out in my book bud.

But if you're still somehow serious and can actually come up with the money, why not ship your car to a KNOWLEDGEABLE mechanic, like you've been requesting... McMark at Original Customs in Sonoma, CA is only 6 hours away. If you had done that to begin with the car would have been on the road by now. And not for $3000 likely.

Then again, I'm not sure I'd wish that on Mark.

YESSSS, so much drama for something so simple.

Damn, imagine if I was secretly a meth manufacturer disguised as a 914 enthusiast who is looking for an honest mechanic to work on his car.

So, in the first episode, I enlist a large community of 914 owners to ship these "so called" 914 parts all over the USA> Little do they know, they are actually transporting illegal drugs.

Of course the star of the show would be the actual 914 car itself. AND, after breaking all cable network records, the value of 914s would've skyrocketed.

Hmmmmm not a bad idea. Anybody know how to write a script??

sociopath

A person with antisocial personality disorder. Probably the most widely recognized personality disorder. A sociopath is often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not usually care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly. They seldom feel guilt or learn from punishments. Though some sociopaths have become murders, most reveal their sociopathy through less deadly and sensational means.

Yeah Mr. Holmes has more questions. How did you have your Aveo in the bad Porsche shop in 2012 (funny place for an Aveo by the way) and salvage it then only to have the same bad Porsche shop in 2014 have it again for a month doing nothing? More importantly how was the 914 there when you dropped the Aveo off in 2012 if he has only had it for 6+ months. Was it a different bad Porsche mechanic? No that canā€™t be because you use the same story and the same issues with the cars and even the same timeframes for the lack of repairs and the same shop has the 914 andā€¦ā€¦.I am getting confused in the cloud of BSā€¦..forgive me. In fact if you look at his twitter account and Google+ you can see a great passion for cars in general. In fact with enough sleuthing you can find a fair amount of truth in some of the story. Jessica for example https://cip.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_community&view=profile&userid=19142006

These members have done amazing things for people in the past. Often for free. They would have done the same for you. Until you got in your own way, again, and again, and again.

Yes there's a lot of truth. Somehow I'm the bad guy here. Which is pretty obsurd if you really knew me. I sacrifice a lot for my friends and family but I just don't brag about it.

Somehow this whole thing has really gone all to hell!!!!!

Who needs Breaking Bad when we've got this aktion035.gif

You are dillusional!!! You have no idea what you're talking about!!!

IBTL & ILBT. Now that Mr. Personality has worn out his welcome here, has anyone suggested 914club.com (which George of AA runs)? Or better yet, there is an obscure little 914 board with some very tolerant folks at clubnarp.com also. After reading your threatening post to Ron I'm sure this thing will be locked down shortly. Did anyone have the good manners to invite out friend to the G&R gathering this spring? shades.gif

Posted by: Steve Pratel Feb 13 2015, 04:04 PM

Well, I just want to know if this is the same car that this guy peppered the board with Q's on in 2009, and most importantly, if he could get his aveo from NV to LA why he didn't just pull off a miraculous engine transplant placing the aveo motor in the 914 with the help of the one kid who is OK, and why Jessica the brilliant sculptor who doesn't drive has only one dream in life to drive as her only car a vehicle with room for one passenger though she has a 4 person family with the most generous and helpful houseguest that Louisiana could cough up....... Wait, I know, maybe the car he claimed was his in 2009 was really hers and he is trying to steal if from her, but wait he is a super generous guy who will bend over backwards to get other people to donate time labor and parts.......... Its so simple........

I really think I can sum up what is happening here in 4 words.... Too Much Medical Marijuana drunk.gif

This is just way too funny. Best part is this guy is so delusional, he didn't even try to change his profile name.

One of the things I REALLY like about this forum is the people are awesome, and the need for ham fisted moderation is rare. It is this atmosphere that has allowed this troll to continue this.... This is classic. THANKS for the laughs!

Nothing ever happened.

For the guy who mentioned in an earlier thread that I was a car guy, he was right. During that period of time from 2009 and 2010, it's true, I was attempting to fix the Porsche 914 on my own. If you do some research, you can read the questions I was posing about the Fuel Injection and other items. All this work was done in Highland Park where I was living alone.

What everybody didn't know, was while attempting to fix the 914, I was also working on my own personal project. A 1989 Alfa Romeo Milano.

I spent about a year creating a body kit for that car. I was experimenting with wood, insulation foam and plaster.

Unfortunately, before I was able to finish it, the owner of the home required that I move. I lost my work space and never was able to finish the body kit.

What I did finish was rough, but the image attached will give you a great example of a potentially hot body kit for the Alfa Romeo.

Here is the image:

Alfa 75! Nice, you tried to create an IMSA version with wood? The Dutch highway patrol would hang you to dry if you tried to drive the roads with that. Unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists. You could get lots of body trim parts for these. Often sold by a Dutch tuning company Savali. (One of my students has worked there for a few years - I used to be a highschool teacher).

Alfas were common as muck back in Holland back in those years. They had a bunch of dedicated followers. Mostly people who had misty eyes when they spotted the Alfa-red, forgetting the electrical gremlins, the rust problems (you could here the rust beetles eating the metal in the brochure), the lousy build quality and the fast depreciation... But then came the Alfa 156. AFAIK never sold in the US. A fantastic car! That car ticked all the boxes. Size-wise about the same as a modern day Buick Regal. If you can lay your hands on one of these, that would be a great car to enjoy. Oh man. It was the car that sent BMW engineers back to the drawingboard for a better 3 Series.

An anecdote: my wife had a green metallic Alfa, I had a Merc at that time. My Merc spent days and days in at the Merc's dealers shop - resulting in TWO new engines within 30K miles. Production proces faillure. In all that time, my wife's Alfa never broke down, never had a problem. Nothing in nearly 200K miles!

Yes what really happened was a wooden frame. Over the frame I sprayed expanding foam let it dry and then carve it with a knife. Over the carved piece I poured plaster. It was definitely a labor of love but more of discovery.

You can actually create a body kit with next to nothing but of course clay is always king. Just need an indoor space with temperature control

You are stupid but do you mean to tell me you can't read???? I'm losing faith in humanity.

Pay close attention, "I" never asked for money. "I", never solicited for money or parts. "I" asked if the community can help fix Jessica's car.

If you had any balls, you'd show up here at the doorstep to see for yourself.

But what's really the kicker here is, the guy that came here to see the car and meet the family. Guess what, all he spoke about was the car. He never mentioned Jessica, Leonardo, Vance nor Brian Jr.

???????? What, you mean he didn't bother mentioning that Leonardo has severe Hemophilia A with spontaneous bleeding and is legally blind and has cheated death more than a dozen times? He also didn't mention that his brother suffers from nocturnal seizures and was born with a stroke and has a shunt attached from his brain to his stomach.

So you see "Bright Boy", you know nothing. You are just assuming.

Do you homework because you're gonna be sent to the principal's office.

NOW, everybody is copying his design cues off of that car. Just take a look at the new 2016 Ford GT.

The Mantide was WAY WAY ahead of its time, but you probably think it's stupid looking.

OH come on down. I'll introduce you to "Strictly German" and the owner Duran who has had her car there for six months.

I'll also introduce you to the whole family, unless of course you want to "Facetime" before you arrive.

This is one weird thread. More entertaining than anything on the tube, but weird. Looks like the O.P. is trying to resurrect his image by impressing us with his abilities as a "car guy" by posting some old pictures found on the interweb. This is after a few of us dared to ask a few questions about his story. I'm on lots of car forums and for the most part find them informative and the people very helpful. However, this is the first time I've seen a thread asking for help with a car that found the need to start with details about the personal life and tragedies of the person who may or may not own the car, then trash, by name, the shop which currently has the car.
Still don't have a straight answer to some basic questions:
1. Who owns the car?
2. Are you married to Jessica now or is she your ex?
3. Are her children yours?
4. Do you have any money to help with the car or get it out of the shop?
(Be careful: you have stated that you have $1500 to send the car to AA)
5. Does Jessica have a driver's license or is she somehow not able to drive?
6. If the answer to #5 is no, then how is it her dream car?
7. When was the last time the car ran?
8. When was the last time it was registered and had a legal tag?
9. When was the last time you had meaningful employment?
10. What is your career?
11. Are you mobbed up?
12. Has the ACA somehow cut off your medications?
There are enough questions here to provide material for a whole season of episodes. The hell with "House of Cards!"

You may not have directly asked for money or parts, but you sure didn't turn anything down when offered early on in the thread. Here is my conspiracy theory guess:
Jessica ran you off a long time ago and has no idea you are making an arse of yourself on her behalf. The car has some sort of lien on it by the shop and it will never leave that shop, at least owned by you or anyone in your family. You started this whole thing to get people to feel sorry for her and offer you a way to get the car out, fix it and try to salvage some money out of it. You may not have said "give me some money," but that is your goal. Not quite a Nigerian scam, but a close cousin.
I can't wait for the next episode!!

QUOTE(914nola @ Feb 13 2015, 05:55 AM) *

Okay since the PNW crowd will not bite on smoked salmon and beer, maybe Zambezi will help with my fuel pump for boiled crawfish and moonshine.

I don't make it down to N.O. to often but if you can get the car up here to my shop, I would be in for fixing you up. No moonshine for me though.

And I know you would even though we have never met. Which is kinda the point I was trying to make. No one here knows me but have helped in one way or another. I am a shop manager for a local dealership, 16 fully trained techicians, 2 master techs, 4 oil change techs, 4 porters, 3 service advisors, 29 lifts, 2 4 post lifts and one hell of a nice alignment machine. All at my disposal and I would never take my 914 there. Average age of the techs is 36. 7 have never worked on a car with a carburetor. I think this gentleman is missing something important about mechanic shops. They are revenue generating machines. They don't care about 43 year old cars, even a porsche dealership will not touch it. We don't care about your 40 year old car on a business level. I can make 3 times the money not killing a rack waiting weeks for parts.
We as enthusiasts help each other to keep them going. Strictly German is a business, take your headache somewhere else. Leave the toys to people who love them and can actually care for them.

Not that I really care but, is this a George from AA time out or is he simply banned from the site?

QUOTE(nigolusa @ Feb 13 2015, 08:55 PM) *

Right now it's a "as long as i feel like it" timeout. That may or may not change in the future.

Yea. It went south really quick. The whole insult people early on and try to make up later on was weird. The video of Leonardo was even spookier. then to try to gain our favor on page 13, really weird. I thought this was strange from the start and kinda funny. In the end it was sad, he needs friends, medicine and phycological help.

I guess he finally figured it out then. rolleyes.gif

I have some 20+ emails from him in my 914world folder where he was replying to notification emails from the forums thinking they were real emails from members.

Even after i explained to him the meaning of the word "notification" and pointed out that none of his emails ever went to the people he thought they were going to.

And then i have the ones he sent to me directly that clearly indicate a severe lack of medication on his end ...
