914World.com _ 914World Garage _ New Project car

Posted by: skline Feb 6 2005, 04:36 PM

Got the new project last night. Here are pictures of what it looks like now. These will be the only posts I make on this car until I actually make some serious progress on it. Rather than to post multiple posts with pictures here, I am going to post just one and then a link to the rest of them. Those who know 914's will be able to tell a lot about it from the pictures.

ftp://www.creativeitsolution.com/white74/ The link goes to pictures I did not resize, they are large and not for the bandwidth impaired. I will ad more as I go.

I just took some more pictures. I want to document everything on this car and the progress I make on it. My plan is to have it all in primer for the WCC. My plans are to install the front and rear sway bars, Koni adjustables front and rear. New ball joints and turbo tie rods so the suspension will be sound. 140 pound rear springs. and with any luck, gut the brown interior and put in black. I have some wiring to fix and an oil leak. The motor appears to be a fairly recent rebuild. Its still has the FI which I intend on leaving for now. Lots of body work to do in it as there are little dings everwhere. The rear body sag is bad and so are the shocks. I need to weld in new engine shelf on the passenger side and then I think I am going to weld in some overlay structure panels on both sides of the longs. First thing is to remove and repair any rust damage. All of this while finishing up the Chalon. Both cars should be in primer for the WCC. Are we taking any bets? What are the odds?

Hey Aaron, I will be doing the sway bars next weekend, if you want to come out and see how to do it, come on down. Order up the mounts from Engman and we can put your brackets in too.

Well, Aaron and I figured out it was originally a 1.8 liter car. That explains the lack of front or rear sway bars and the jury rigged center console wiring. It is however, a 2 liter GA engine and it does run pretty good. It has a few hoses not connected and idles a little high, I am going to get it all dialed in and running perfect and start doing to modifications to make it a nice little AX/street driver. I took it for a drive today and the brakes feel like they are lacking a little bit some there will be some brake upgrades in the near future. It will get uglier before it gets better. In the mean time, I have a car I can drive while I work on it. If you looked at the pictures, you probably noticed it has the smaller 1.8 H/E's on it, I will be changing that first thing. I only need to find a 2 liter muffler bracket and some gaskets.

Aaron, I got that thing for you from Craig so you could bring them out when you come get it. I would like to do that when I put the rear sway bar in since it is much easier to put the drop links on with the exhaust system removed.

Scott, the 914 looks great! I can't wait to see it get all fixed up! boldblue.gif

That looks like the car SLITS drove out to AZ back in December. Could it be?

Well, I did get it from Slits, but I dont think this is the one he drove out there. The shocks are gone on this one, the one he took out there is the one he drove at the AX last saturday. They are both 2 liter but his is in better shape.

If you need a Black rear back pad let me know. I may also have a few more Black interior parts left over.
