I took the white one out for a drive today. Besides needing shocks and sway bars installed, it rides ok but I notice that when I hit bumps, the steering feels a little loose and sloppy. What would cause that? Does it need ball joints? Tie rods? I want this thing to ride like my old yellow one. It was very solid on the road.
Oh, it has little skinny tires on it too. I think they are 165R15
shocks lose in the strut. top shock nut not tight. top shock mount screws lose.
tie rods worn out. ball joints worn out. steering column shaft sleeve broken.
steering rack itself work out (play). wheels nuts not tight.
just a few things to check on ...
Andy
You forgot one:
Loose nut behind the wheel...
I couldn't resist!
Later,
Tom
plus ...
loose wheel bearings, steering shaft coupler U-joints loose ...

Can those be tightened up? The column does seem a little loose. |

yes, they can. oh and while your in there. check the 4 bolts that hold the steering rack to the dash as well ! Andy |
I suppose you don't remember me telling you the car was acquired with the steering wheel off....they were trying to get to the lock cylinder to start it...and the steering wheel was put back on 45 degrees off......meaning YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL NUT.
OOOOhhhhh, yeah, that would be a good idea. I think while I got it off I will make it straight too.
Here she sits in the driveway, I gave it a bath, I dont think it was EVER washed before. Since there was only one bolt holding the front bumper rubber on I went ahead and removed it from the car. I put a cheap set of mirrors on it to make it legal to drive. I may start doing the body work on it this next week. It will be covered in my driveway for the most part. As long as this weather holds up, I can get some stuff done.

Scott, I just noticed you need to update your signature.
Dang what all that light under the car. you can drive a Mack truck under there. I know it is probably stock ride hiegth.
As far as all the nuts and bolts and joints I am quite confident that all can be tightened except the one in the drivers seat.

Its a date. How does sunday sound? Do you know where I can get some (lots) of 16 ga steel for the floor pans?
I also ordered the jack points and tubes from pelican/resto-design yesterday, so maybe when I get those we can weld those buggers in too. Then I'll have a rust free 912
I doubt it will be rust free, I dont think that is possible. If it was built before 75 by Porsche, it will always have rust.
Isnt the shalom rust free

when did Porsche galvanize everything? I heard something about 1975?
Yeah, I hear something loose in the rear on my 2.0. Thanks for bringing up the question!
