Okteenerfest 2015: 914-6 GT - the Giant Killers
September 17-20 in Banner Elk, NC.
Please note the change from original dates of 24-27. After we had set the original dates, Porsche moved Rennsport Reunion to the same weekend.
With so many 914 guys headed to Rennsport, we decided to move Okteenerfest to its new date. Sorry for any inconvenience to those who may have already planned time off from work, etc.
This year's honored model is the 914-6 GT in celebration of the 1-2-3 Marathon de la Route (86 hours of Nürburgring) and other wins in 1970. Whether you have a real -6 GT, an original -6 converted to GT specs, or a -4 "tribute" GT with flares and big tires, they are all welcome at Okteenerfest. Join other 914 owners in their more mundane versions of Porsche's street-legal go-kart for some fantastic driving, plenty of socializing, a bit of showing off, and a truckload of give-aways.
After two years being held in the Smokies of east Tennessee, we have moved the event east into the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. There are so many awesome roads in this region it would take days to drive them all. We have selected a route for Friday's day drive that includes not only a ton of twisties, sweepers, and ear-popping elevation changes but plenty of stopping points to get out, stretch, and enjoy the scenic splendor of the mountains.
With this new location, we hope our friends from west of the Mississippi will still join us while at the same time bringing in new attendees from north and east. If you have not been to an Okteenerfest in the past, mark this one on your calendar. With a growth of over 65% in both attendees and 914s present from 2013 to 2014, we expect 2015 to be HUGE!
In addition to the driving, Okteenerfest will feature plenty of good eating, an awards ceremony, tons of give-aways from the most awesome vendors, a Peoples Choice Car Show, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet gathered in a single place

I'm in. Can't wait.
3rd time's a charm (I hope). Hope to finally make it this year.
I'm really going to try to make it this year!
I know!
Reserved my room....
Made my reservations today
I'm hoping to make it this year w/ my six. I have to pull my oil tank & find the leak 1st.
Interested....
Reservation made!
Well it looks like I am going to have to start lining up some cool stuff again this year!
Yes You Do Mr. Blizzard!!
This weekend Nadine and I are going to do some scouting out of the routes, lunch spots, dinner ideas, etc. I'm hoping we can get a few things nailed down so we can get registration open soon. Each year when the venue changes, so does all the rest of the stuff that goes into it so we have to start all over again.
Our lunch stop on the Friday drive is my biggest concern. Winding fun roads out in the middle of nowhere are wonderful...except they are out in the middle of nowhere with no place to accomodate 100 people!
I will report back next week!!
Doug, PM sent
UPDATE!!
A few weeks back I mentioned that Nadine and I did some scouting for the drives and lunch spots. One of the places we wanted to stop and have a chance for all of us to stretch our legs is Linville Falls. Its a beautiful area with both easy and more difficult hikes up to different viewing areas of the falls. Here are a few pictures I took while we were there. In the last picture, the people you see in the distance is where we were standing to take the first picture.
Wow. What a view. Looks like a great stop.
Man, you guys should have stopped by. My house is just down the mountain from Linville. Did you eat at the Famous Rock House Cafe?
That involves getting time off for work which comes at a premium. I need to make time for a trip to the PNW to see my son & DiL, extended weekends (24 Hour at Daytona HSR race, Savannah HSR, etc)
EVENT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. http://okteenerfest.com/okteenerfest-2015-reg.

Me- booking mine today!
I'm planning on it and will be bringing my 17 y.o. son. We are looking forward to our first road trip in the 914-6.

Ok so the support is beginning to roll in. Mark at 914 Rubber will be helping out. I have a few details to work out before giving the details but this is huge! You will want to win this. It would make your car and nicer and is likely the thing we all need. Besides this huge item, Mark will be send some of his usual goodies. Eric at PMB is providing a set of front calipers again. Who couldn't use those? Stay tuned as it will only get better.
Remember we were at capacity last year so don't until the last minute to register.
I'll be there!
Looks like we will have some goodies from the excellent Dave athttp://maddogsmotorsports.com!
Dave is sending:
Front sway bar stiffening kit
Front sway bar mount kit
Early rear sway bar mount kit
Shim pack (one of each 2mm, 3mm, 4mm)
Heater block off kit
Ha! No trailering, but who knows maybe drivable next year.
Any one guess what Dr. Evil has in store for you?
Fantastic.....I need a transmission rebuild!
Very generous of Dr Evil. You're doing a great job Mike coming up with some nice gifts!!
Well It is clear that http://www.automotion.com/porsche-914-parts.html loves the 914 and Okteenerfest. Cozette Alley the Show Manager for Eckler Industries, Inc. has hooked us up with some great gift certificates and hats for the event!

There is a good possibility that two REAL M-471 GTs will be at this year's Okteenerfest
And these cars will not only be shown but will be driven with the opportunity for other attendees to ride along
One of these is the Erich Strenger car and the other is the last GT of the line in 1971 and the only Gemini Blue Metallic one to be sent to the US.
Have YOU http://okteenerfest.com/okteenerfest-2015-reg yet?
Alright, this is a big one!
Charles at http://type4store.com/ is providing a $500 gift certificate!
That would put in a pretty good start on an engine rebuild kit or score some really nice parts. Nice - Very Nice!
Who wouldn't love to have an engine with a set of Nickies?
I was lucky enough to participate last year and just have to say that it was a great experience. One thing that stands out for me was the hour long factory film on the building of the 356, I loved to watch all the steps involved. This was after the cookout on Friday night I think. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing all the 914-6 GT's mine will still be hanging on the Rotisserie.
Luckily I have a spare 914-4 2.0 that can't wait to get back, hope to see a record crowd!!
Vysoc
Garold Shaffer will be sending us one of Mom's service covers! This one of the best things you can buy for your paint job!
If you are not coming to Ockteenerfest so you can win this you should check out http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=44221they are the best!
Happy 4th of July everyone!!
Today Nadine and I spent the entire day running and documenting the route, meeting with the hotel and finalizing dinners, checking out lunch spots, etc., etc., etc.... All in misty rain, heavy rain, peaks of sunshine, getting stuck an hour waiting for the Banner Elk Parade to go by, and following some painfully slow drivers....BUT I think we got a lot finalized!!!
I will try to put together a video, depending on what came through in the rain.
While this year there are no "big name" roads like The Dragon or Moonshiner 28, there certainly will be amazing roads and something for everyone: tight twisties, lazy meandering mountain roads, creek/riverside roads, drives through farmland and an gorgeous stop at Linville Falls.
Okteenerfest was developed to be a 914 driving event, to take advantage of the abundance of amazing roads we have in the southeast...so if you love to drive your awesome little car, you DO NOT want to miss this event!
Thanks for all your hard work making this event what it is... Awesome!!
Oh, and the "on your own" Saturday/Sunday trips will include Grandfather Mountain, 'shopping' at the Mast General Store and the cool little town of Blowing Rock and the Banner Elk Winery!!
Okay,
All registered up! Common everybody, registrations are down! We need to get you all on board!
OK, so I put together a video from our scouting trip last weekend.
It was rainy so you get some wiper action. And Nadine was holding the camera since we couldn't suction cup it outside and didn't have a way to mount it on the dash, so there's a bit of vibration, but overall not too bad...
Each clip/transition is a different road. And we didn't record a few of the roads that we drive. As you can see...the route should be pretty nice!!
The pictures at the beginning are views from our stop at Linville Falls.
Music is Joe Satriani.
Enjoy!!!

Nice video, looks like a great drive.
So a little birdie told me that if we get 50 914's, Dr914 said he and Steve will be bringing the two M471 GT cars!!!
Get yourself signed up!!
And where is the TX contingent? Clay/Betty?? Roads too tough for you last year?
ok, another one registered. Bob, check is in the mail to you.

John Forbes is helping me right now, with chassis reinforcements and plumbing in the new engine. It is at his Black Forrest shop currently. Then it is back on my plate, I am working remote on as many sub-systems as possible.
Okteenerfest gave us a good goal to shoot for.
Danny

As the person that has been begging sponsors to support this event I want to point out that at this point, our sponsors have donated approximately $5K in items and support for this event. Some of the best ones have not been disclosed yet.
Besides the overall cool factor of the driving, if you attend this event there is a good chance you will walk away with some really cool stuff. It will be worth the effort.
Bump for the Event!
And I am in again for Banner Elk, Bob check is in the mail.
I was fortunate enough to win the Custom Gauges last year on the final Raffle draw, which will become part of my 914-6 GT recreation, unfortunately not in time for this year's event. I have another great runner that I am bringing looking forward to running those outstanding roads and the cooler weather.
Last year I got to run behind the four Sixes from the Fontana Dam to the lunch site in Bryson City. ( I think ). The sixes were spectacular and they left me in the dust.
Great time if you are not signed up you are missing a great event!!

Valves and carbs adjusted, some minor paint work on some under carriage and we are ready. Thinking of getting the rear brakes upgraded to the brembos. See you soon!!!
Looking to go fast on some curves? The guys at http://www.tarett.com/items/914-products/914-suspension/914-swaybars~drop-links/list.htm?repost=1&start=0&Count_Class_1_4525700=8593040#ITEM_4525700re giving someone a 50% off deal on a front sway bar kit! That is some seriously well engineered kit.
Hey Steve,
Any grafics for the shirt yet?
It will be tough to out do last years!
See you soon
Bill
Love Dallas! Stay out of trouble!
9 weeks left!!!!
OK, so I just spoke to the hotel to finalize all the meals, rooms and such and give a deposit. She said there are 24 rooms booked already with our group.
Our room block is released on 8/17, meaning after that, you may have a tough time getting a room, so book it now and get your registration in!
Just over 8 weeks away!!!
Would love to attend, but will be at a wedding in New York state between my nephew - Army Ranger LtCol (3 tours to Afghanistan and 2 to Iraq) and his beautiful wife-to-be - Army full Colonel doctor. Maybe next year.
George
Totally acceptable excuse! Tell him and his new wife that everyone on 914world thanks them for all they have done and we hope their wedding day is perfect!
I am an engine swap and some front and rear wheel bearings away with luck. One motor out and fixed and is now ready to go in. Have to get the motor out of the LE and get wheel bearings done. Still a possibility. I'm not out yet.
Shoe
Part 1 of suspension upgrade done. Should be a huge improvement over the KYBs. And these are Koni adjustable!
New ball joints and turbo tie rods next.
,
Reminder - sign up or you'll be missing this!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dh_n-AlDDQ
Getting ready for that! Just installed turbo tie rods, new ball joints, and front rubber bushings. A bit of time to set the ride height and get it aligned and I think I will be ready.
The good folks at http://www.worlduph.com/porsche/914_916/ are sending a set of high quality http://www.worlduph.com/others/plush_floor_mat/mats. Will fit all years. I will post a picture as soon as I get them. Assuming they are not lost in the mail.
I know you guys get tired of seeing all of the posts I add for the sponsors for this event. But this is a huge one worth reading.
I think we all know Mark at 914 Rubber has always been a huge supporter of the 914. His development of a new dash for the 914 has created quite a stir. Mark has invested a huge amount of time and effort in this development process and I know I am buying one.
But Mark is actually going to offer up one of the new dashes as a prize for Okteenerfest! I know many of us need and/or want this. So sign up today as this is a chance of a lifetime to get a new dash for your 914.
Where else are you going to get that?
I was first to reserve a room, but DUH! I just realized that I needed to register for the event. So now I am registered. Check is in mail.
Mike
we are soooo not tired of your posts!! And I'm sure the sponsors aren't either!
All...Mike took on the role of corraling sponsors and door prize donations a couple years ago and has done an AWESOME job!! Seriously, there are things you could win that are worth WAY more than the registration fee!!
And don't worry, you will not win something you don't want. We do door prizes in a way that you can only win something you're actually interested in.
So...you have 7 weeks to get that 914 running and join us for some driving, showing and socializing fun! (and yes Grady...I was wondering what happened to you!!)
Last year at this time: (26) 914s and (39) attendees.
Just took a count and we are at...
(35) 914s and (57) attendees
I see a LOT of new names on the list. Can't wait to meet them all and check out their 914s!
Just registered and reserved room. will be looking forward to this.
I registered - it says to send a Check to Bob with no address - is Naro to be Trusted?
Mike, that car is looking good! how do you like the ride height with those? i just went to the bilistein sports on mine, and am trying to decide whether to stay with the 100# shorter weltmeister springs, or the longer 90# stock ones. Right now to get clearance on my fenders witht the 7" fuchs i needed them to sit higher, so i'm set on the top retainer. just wondering about where you have yours set at this point.
I dont know if i will have time to sort it out, but i might be acquiring #2 914, and its a very clean mostly original car (75) . the current caretaker and world member will probably be able to give more info, but mums the word until we take care of business.
Since my car (my 75 copper metalic) needs some rust repair that concerns me, if i can get #2 going great, otherwise i have registered and will be there with #1-it will have to come and i'll take my chances!! last year i had just completed all the stuff you are doing right now- you will be glad you did.

I have a few weak spots in this area on my car so this is a part I want!

Three things prevent me from attending Okteenerfest:

Yep that's about $300! If we are likely to have some takers on this let me know and I will see if Tarett will ship it to the event so it would be available to go home with someone!

So sign up, get your room, and get your 914 ready for a wonderful weekend!
Not sure of what all is in the package but the great folks at Zymol car care have sent a package containing some 30 lbs of serious car care products.

Just getting back from the sandbox. No not the one here, the one in AFG. But should have a few boxes to open with goodies!
For all of you that have attended in previous years, or those who have signed up for the email updates, you should have an email from me this morning.
For the rest of you, I am reminding everyone that there is 1 week until the room block at the Best Western is released . Since that is our host hotel where we will be having registration, both evening dinners and general social gatherings, and is one of the only hotels in the area, if you were on the fence or simply forgot to register, NOW is the time!!
If you stay in the Best Western, breakfast is included with your room every morning. We will have a blocked off area to park just for us. And they will also have a wash area set up for us so everyone can pretty up their cars when they arrive or after the Friday drive!!
Also...we have been given the challenge by George Hussey that if we get 50 914's to register by August 17, there will be at least 1 (maybe more!!) rare M471 factory wide body cars!! In addition to George's car, there will be a lot of 914's attending with unique and storied histories, so you don't want to miss out!!
So get your registration in, book your room, and plan on being with us in September for a wonderful 914 weekend!!
Awesome stuff!
We are now at 43 cars and 68 attendees
Not signed up yet? What are you waiting for???
http://okteenerfest.com/okteenerfest-2015-reg
I registered for my 17y.o. son and I last night. This will be our first road trip in the -6. Working on it now to get it in tip top shape.
For folks around Atlanta or coming through Atlanta on the way up, any thought of caravaning up on Thursday?
I wish I could attend this gathering. Nice group of cars.
Been trying to finish up a few projects in the car , seats were finished this week and are installed. My new fuchs are on the car. Body work etc will have to wait until next year. Right now car is running good. Trying to make it a father/son trip if he can get away from school for a few days!
Those are some nice prizes that have already been donated!
Not much discussion about parts swap meet. Is that still in the picture?
OK good news!! I just heard from the hotel and YES we can use that back field by the parking lot for trailers, and for a swap meet if anyone's interested.
I think we have about 10 people that said they are trailering. I don't know anything about the field - how to get in our out...maybe in the upper right? That road Advent Lane is a dirt road.
If we get a chance to run up there before the event, I'll have more details. Otherwise we may just have to play it by ear to see how to organize things once we get there.
So...the swap meet is ON! Anyone trailering or swapping may just have to be patient so we can all work together with the space we have, but we should be fine.
I was also told that there are only a handful of our blocked rooms left and that the entire rest of the hotel is sold out. So...get your event and hotel room registration done NOW!!
Not sure if all of you know http://www.356devotion.com as a 914 parts supplier. But Adam has agreed to send some massive amounts of items for the event!
How about new fuze blocks, fuze covers, window cranks, new door handles, door handle rosettes, and gas caps.
They have some nice stuff. I have the fuse box cover on my car from them and it is a quality item. Pretty sure Most of us could use all of these parts.
Just been doing a bit of math. At this point our sponsors have donated almost $7K in support and event prizes. Take a look at the sponsor list and know that these are the people that are committed to the 914 and want your business.
With our current 70 people signed up, that's about $98 worth of loot per person!
Doesn't get much better than that!
We are now at 48 cars with 75 attendees
Within a couple cars and 5 people of last year's attendance and we have 5 weeks to go
BEEN TO OKTEENERFEST BEFORE:
(4) attended in 2013,
(13) attended in 2014,
(18) attended in both 2013 and 2014
(12) Newcomers. WELCOME! You are in for a great time.
OK, folks... it's official. We have reached the 50+ cars point
One of the cars to push it to that point is an original factory GT with racing history in Europe and the US.
Anyone care to venture a guess as to what car it is?
OOO, OOO I know!!! Pick me!! Pick ME!!!
The Eric Strenger Porsche 914-6 GT M471?
Vysoc
And there is a difference between a M471 car and a true factory built GT car...
All right everyone this is really getting interesting. If the rumors are true it looks like we will be offering up some really serious items in the near future.
But as you get your car ready for the event I ask you to look at the sponsors on the Okteenerfest site and give them the first shot when you make your next purchase. These are the vendors that have made $7k (may go to 10 really quickly) of items available for this event. Also note who is missing. While the 914 was not the most loved Porsche in the past, it is now at a point where vendors are taking an intrest in 914 owners. Supporting the sponsors of Okteenerfest is a great way for us to show them that 914 owners appreciate their support.
Steve is bringing both of these....!!!

Can't wait to see those beautiful beasts, way to go guys this is going to be an even more awesome week!!!
Congratulations!!!
Vysoc
"......an even more awesome week!!!"
GREAT IDEA. How could all of this fun be crammed into a few days.....I say we expand this to a whole week.
Just kidding...but this is going to be a great event. Thanks so much to Bob, Mike, Steve and the rest who are working to make this a fantastic event!!!!!
Jason and the great guys at http://www.paragon-products.com/Porsche-914-Parts-s/19.htm are hooking us up with some great gift certificates for this event.
They have a really good selection and I actually have a set of their performance spark plug wires which are top notch!
OK so Our good buddy Tim has asked me to find out what would be the most desirable LED gauge set see this year?
Silver dot gauges?
Non silver dot?
Silver dot with 150mph.
Votes?
Hmmm, just over half the cars attending are 74+ so would take the later style. But, don't want to leave out the silver dot guys...
Silver dot 150 mph fits my '70 so I guess that's my vote. Maybe Tim would offer a certificate good for the choice of the winner?
All three!!
The oval sticker for this year:
Working on the shirt design next.
906 twin plug original to this real 914-6GT
It's not every day you see one of those! http://okteenerfest.com/okteenerfest-2015-reg
Hopefully if you are coming to Okteenerfest you've booked your room by now. Today the block of rooms we had held is being released to the general public, and since the rest of the hotel is sold out with a waiting list, if there were any left, they will be gone today.
Now...if any of you HAVE a room and can't make it (I can't imagine what could POSSIBLY be more important than Okteenerfest that weekend) PLEASE do not cancel it yet..post it here for anyone that doesn't have a room yet to take it from you.
I think I booked the last room yesterday. Had to get a pet friendly room.
I'll try not to get sick on this one...
There is a bed and breakfast in banner elk about 3 miles away that is fairly comparable on price if you missed a room. It is the azalea garden inn. Great place!

"Will be bringing several swap items including all fiber glass for GT cars , Brad Penn 20/50 race oil , Minilite Wheels both 4&5 bolt, custom axle straps and ratchets. Other misc. 914 hard parts."
This is going to be a great event!!!
I have been following up with our sponsors and some of that $10K in items has started rolling in! Got very nice gift cert from Ron at AASE Sales!
Everyone may want to be sure I make it to the event because I am the only one that knows where all the stuff is!
On a serious note, it is truly staggering the level of support our vendors have provided for this event. These people are committed to the 914 and supporting us. It is really important that we show them our support. Please try to utilize these sponsors when you buy. Even if you are not coming, these are the vendors that want your business and they are trying to earn that business.
Hey, Michael... do we need to rent a U-haul for ya?
Looking forward to the great pictures! Hope someone with writing talent will be working on an article for PCA, Excellence, R&T, etc.
How cool does this event look!
And what a total blooming coincidence that it is happening just as I start my search for a GT rep.
A rep which in my head will be a Marathon De La Route homage.
Maybe there will be a few hopeful sellers there in Banner Elk: please keep your ears to the ground for me!
Shame the event is so far away from me, else I'd be bowling right over there.
Picture picture pictures please (needless to ask, I guess).
Things are still rolling in! Mark and the great guys at Stoddard are sending some really great stuff. How about out-side door handle seal kits and “Porsche Friend” decals for everyone? A few people will be sporting Stoddard/Huziker shirts. Someone will be very happy with a full set of the new Stoddard/Hawk HP brake pads on their 914.
Sometimes I am amazed at our sponsors. I happened to order some parts from Tarett Racing. I received an email from Ira at Tarett asking if I needed anything else. Really? Who does that in this day and age? Well done Tarett!
Some more numbers fun
Of the (60) 914 owners registered, they collectively own over (120) 914s
Over the years this same group has owned well over (225) 914s
That's an average of over (4) 914s per person. And when you consider some have only owned ONE... well, others have owned DOZENS
I have had a few questions about itinerary, timing, what exactly we are doing, etc. The tentative itinerary is on the http://www.okteenerfest.com website, but I thought I would give everyone here a quick update and more information.
First, about 2 weeks out, everyone who's registered will get an email from me with some registration/check in information, and things to consider/bring for the weekend. No need to go over that now. Then you'll get a reminder about a week in advance with a few more details. If you DO NOT get an email from me, that's because some of you don't know what your email address is and it bounced. I will post on here that an email went out, so if you don't get it....Houston, we have a problem!
Thursday:
- Check In: we will have check in at the hotel in a separate room just down the hall from the front desk. Probably from 4-7 or so. This is when you'll get your goodie bag, registration packet, sign waivers, and hopefully get to see all the cool swag we have for door prizes! You will be on your own for dinner...there are plenty of great restaurants right near the hotel.
Friday:
- The Drive!! For those new to Okteenerfest, we do our drive on Friday. We leave at about 9:14, take a break after about an hour of driving, then stop for lunch (your on your own for that, we'll be in Spruce Pine, NC), take another break in the afternoon (Linville Falls!!) and get back to the hotel late afternoon. After lunch, we encourage you to follow the directions at your own pace and enjoy the scenery, stop when you want, and just have fun. No need for everyone to stay together.
- Dinner: Dinner Friday night is included in your registration fee and will be in the hotel...casual burgers/dogs/brats. There will be a cash bar
Saturday:
- People's Choice Car Show!! This year, the car show will be in the park in the middle of downtown Banner Elk - 1.2 miles from the hotel. I am a HUGE proponent of sharing this wonderful (crazy??) hobby we all have with the general public, so be prepared to have lots of people ask questions, take pictures and admire your pride and joy. Peoples' Choice 'judging' will be from about 9:14 to 11:30 or so, then you are on your own for lunch. There will be PLENTY of places right there in town you can walk to.
- Saturday Afternoon: We've put together a handful of tours and/or places to visit in the afternoon if you are so inclined. Directions to Blowing Rock, Mast General Store, Banner Elk Winery, etc. Or, you can come back to the hotel where anyone that wants to sell some things will be holding the informal Swap Meet. Your choice on how you want to enjoy the afternoon!
- Dinner/Banquet: Saturday evening will be the awards dinner, also included in your registration fee and also in the hotel. This is when we will give out the Car Show awards, some 'unique' fun awards, and all the tons of door prizes Mike has secured (or at least the ones left he hasn't kept himself!) Again, cash bar.
Sunday:
On Sunday, we all say goodbye. Or...you can go do some of the Saturday afternoon fun tours that you couldn't do on Saturday!!
oh...and Each morning, Breakfast is FREE for all the hotel registrants!!
Our goal with Okteenerfest is to provide you with a fun-filled and relaxed weekend where you can enjoy your passion for this great little car with fellow nutcases..er..I mean enthusiasts!
We look forward to seeing you all in 4 weeks!!!
Will there be name tags? I really need name tags as I suck at remembering names. Also, I may have a passenger but won't know until the last minute. Can I pay the fee for the extra person when I get there?
So... this is kinda what it is going to look like as we head out for the drive:
Why are there no icons for YELLOW, BUMBLE BEE, and BLACK???
And here are the ones that should be Yellow, Black or Bumble Bee:
Another Quick update:
If you are on the fence about coming, we need you to sign up by Friday August 28 (one week from today) in order to guarantee you'll get a shirt...and Steve has come up with an AWESOME shirt design that he'll hopefully be able to show you next week!!
Also, if you registered and have not sent in your payment yet, please get it in so we can start getting things ordered...those that I've received should have gotten a payment confirmation email...if you just sent it in the past few days, I should get it soon.
Lastly...is Bill Leehr on here? If so, Bill...your email bounced the other day when I requested your VIN...can you PM me your email address??
thanks!! I'll be at VIR this weekend for the IMSA race, so I'll check back in next week
Here you go.
Attached image(s)
Sheesh... can't please everybody when it comes to silly but fun icons! ;-)
Therefore, I created some more, Clay's sent them to Andy to be added to the site.
Attached image(s)
They are in order...
Aubergine, Black, Bumble Bee, Copper, Gulf, Huey, Marathon Blue, Phoenix Red, Playboy, Raspberry, Yellow.
You made a Huey!! Awesome!!
So why are the Perrine's not signed up???
I spent the day yesterday working to get my father's car ready for this event. Needless to say we still have a few smalll items that need to be completed. Still hoping to get it completed though.
We are just shy of 100 people!!!
and over 60 914's!!!
Holy cow!!!
Numbers crunching
Attendees and their 914s:
(1) No - I don't trust it to make the drive
(4) No - it is a work in progress
(40) Yes - I will be driving it
(17) Yes - I will be trailering it
Of the (57) 914s registered, (11) are equipped with GT flares
There will be (7) factory Sixes including (2) M-471 optioned 914-6 GTs and (1) factory race car
There will be a total of (14) -6 conversions including upgraded engines in factory -6s
How do attendees classify their 914s?
(4) Concours
(6) Projects
(6) Autocrossers
(7) Race Cars
(8) Survivors
(9) Garage Queens
(20) Street Legal
(20) Daily Drivers
Some were classified in more than one area so that is why there are more than the actual number of 914s.
Reminder: Deadline to register and guarantee an awesome, highly coveted and collectible Okteenerfest T-Shirt is TOMORROW August 28!!
Been out of town for the past week in CA. Wife said I had a "few" boxes. Wow didI! The loot is starting to roll in. Will get some pics posted soon but Maddog Motorsports, Stoddard, and PMBs stuff has arrived!
I signed up on the website this morning, and received a reply that a confirmation has been sent to my email. However, when I checked my email a few minutes ago, there is nothing. I am ready to send check to Bob Saville, but wanted confirmation first. I already have hotel room reserved. JoeO
Getting ready for the Okteenerfest. Hope my chrome front bumper gets back from the plater in time.
Wow! we just had our 100th attendee registered
That makes 62 914s officially registered
That is a 24% increase in number of 914s and 20% increase in attendees registered over last year
Its been about four years since I logged onto this website. Someone sent me the details on this event and I am seriously considering driving down from Grand Rapids Michigan. I plan to register in the next week if I'm going to make it. This is going to be the longest drive I have ever made in my 914.
I have a stock 74 914/2.0. I've been the same owner since 1988. Looks like it's going to be a great event. If anyone from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio is planning to drive there, please let me know and we can try to connect.
Just installed Tangerine Racing spherical firewall shift bushing for Okteenerfest. Waiting on Dash from 914 Rubber, need to replace a CV joint gasket, clean up, and oh yea a new windshield and I will be ready.
Still working on the details for the actual shirt art but here is the basic design.
If you buy mine, you will be all set to go!
Its on eBay... make a realistic offer and you are good to go.
Ok, it is official. I registered and sent in my payment. Let's hope she makes the 12 hr drive to NC.
Ok so the loot is rolling in and our sponsors are making it known they are serious about supporting the 914. Adam at 356 Devotion has sent some great items for those looking to upgrade their interiors. Fuse panel, interior door handles, window cranks anyone! Check out 356 Devotion to see all of their 914 parts.
What would you get from the http://type4store.com/with this? That would pretty much cover a new crankshaft!
Hi all
For all you that just signed up, I accidentally sent a 'Payment Reminder' email....sorry.
For all of you that signed up weeks ago...that reminder is for you!! but it was still an accident. Its all or nothing in the registration system...I didn't mean to click the button!!
Ooops....
A HUGE "Thanks" to all the supporters of Okteenerfest 2015!
Okteenerfest 2015 oval stickers have arrived
And the t-shirt design has been finalized and ready to send to the printer
Bob,
I wish I could make it this year but its just not possible (I think)...anyway, I'd like to buy two tee-shirts form my son and I. My b-day is even on the 17th...opening day! Have fun you'all and I'll plan attending in 2016. Bob - please order a XXL and L in adult and please send me an invoice (if possible). Great job you'all!!!
Tony/Cracker
We are not taking orders for shirts, only available to attendees...
Understand. Have a great time!
Tony
Registration is now CLOSED.
I had to give the final meal count to the hotel today, Steven has ordered shirts and we printed and assembled all the registration packets this past weekend.
With a bunch of work things I have to do, Dragon Hillclimb this weekend, and having to get Huey ready for the hillclimb, to then immediately get him back into street clothes of Okteenerfest and be up in Banner Elk early Thursday, we had to get everything done this past weekend for Okteenerfest. Took all weekend, but we should be in good shape, thanks to the help of Bill, Ali and TJ Dunster!!
Special thanks to the Saville's, Bill, Ali & TJ, looking forward to a nice cool weekend drooling over great 914's and awesome 914-6 GT's.
Those of us that get to enjoy the fruits of your labor appreciate everything that has gone into this event from everyone that has worked so hard to make this thing a MAJOR 914 happening!!!!
See you on the 17th!!
Vysoc
Ok so it has not sucked coming home and finding boxes of cool stuff on the porch. Today 4 huge boxes from Sierra Madre. Just a small sample below. First 914 door handle I have ever seen without a scratch! Some really cool front turn signal covers that I was afraid to take out of the package so the photo does not do them justice.
Ok I have a set of Tim's gauges but I want these! From Tm. Best gauges to date. Bruce re-zinc'd the gauge cans (not painted this year). He also powder coated the bezel rings and powder coated the gauge frame. Replaced the plastic lenses and many other misc things. The restored gauges with my custom HD LEDs is easily worth 1k for the package.
Some cool SWAG from Eric at PMB.
Wow! All I can say is the "prizes" alone makes the event worth attending!
Awesome Job on the sponsors and goodies Micheal!!! I am blown away by their participation and generosity!
Bill
Ok so it takes a long to stuf a 100 + goody bags! Just glad I did not have to keep everyone's name straight like poor Bob and Nadine.
Part 1 of the stash!
This is going to be so much like Christmas...............
Mike, maybe you should dress up like Claus!!! Ho, ho, ho!!!!
This might be old news at this stage. But, I believe 2 M-471 914s are coming Okteenerfest this weekend. This event really has become such an important 914 event. I can't wait.
http://fourteenermotoring.com/2015/09/14/two-m-471-porsche-914s-coming-to-okteenerfest/
However....it looks like Huey will not be there
Got under the car today to change the muffler, and found this!
Hillclimbs, Road America....and father time...have taken it's toll on Huey.
Well Jason at Paragon knows how to make some Okteenerfest attendees smile. I could use these for so many things.
Heavy metal at Okteenerfest anyone?
Dave at Maddogs Motorsports has got you covered!
The weather forecast for the coming weekend in Banner Elk... mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 70s.
Perfect driving weather
Anyone else besides me not even started to get ready yet
https://youtu.be/ThUYibLVtdE
We have about 10 cars going, and one of them just got fired up for the first time since a bare-metal resto and 3.6L conversion ;-). It's going to attend only mostly complete - the interior won't be finished and the running gear will need some cleaning up afterwards, but with 205's under the back of a healthy 3.6 it should be plenty of fun coming out of the slower corners!
FYI everybody, I (Cody Forbes) will be in an orange #2 Monte Carlo Rally GT replica (with a 3.2L) for the drive Friday with a selection of tools, volt meter, temp guns, and maybe a small selection of common issue items like points and a fuel pump. I'll also have a passenger seat available ;-). I'll give my personal cell number for emergency on-call service to anybody that approaches (or PM's here) so that there's a high likelihood of being able to find someone that an reach me, but I don't want to post it on a public forum. My father won't make it in time for the drive due to a commitment Friday AM, but he will be arriving to Banner Elk mid-afternoon Friday so if anybody needs technical help back at base camp he can be contacted.
I have made 12x18 posters. Will have them at Okteenerfest to sell. Any left I will offer to anyone who wants one.
Bob and Nadine did a great job planning out the routes for today's drives! It was a lot of fun, some great roads and views!!
Mike had to "back up the truck" to unload all of the goodies he secured from the very generous sponsors. Way to go Mike!
And Steve, well, he did a wonderful job on the graphics design, the t-shirts, the posters, and the pictures that each participant in the car show got of their car. My wife wants to frame it! Thank you Steve!!
We met lots a great folks and made some new friends!! Fantastic weekend!
When is registration opening for next year?
Well that was the best one yet. It was great to see every one. Thanks again to everyone for making this a great event.
A big thank you to Bob, Nadine, Mike, Steve and all the others who pulled this together.
Outstanding driving, phenomenal weather, fantastic prizes and awesome people!
WOW! What a weekend. A huge thanks to everyone that came. We really appreciate your support.
A really special thanks to Bob, Nadine, and Steve. Can't think of a better group to go through the insanity with.
Can't thank our sponsors enough for their support. There were some really happy people leaving the event.
Time for a little rest then start planning for next year.
Inquiring minds would like to know, how many 914s were there? And any photos showing all ? Nice turnout.
Made it home
I think this winter will see my LE on jackstands for some much needed repairs both body and mechanical
A big THANK YOU to all the attendees. It was the first time for about a third of them... hope they come back
Tried to get an aerial shot of all the cars at the car show (someone counted 62 but I only took pictures of 56 as they entered the field ) but I forgot the battery charger for my drone and it was a complete fail
I will be posting all the cars on the http://okteenerfest.comweb site plus set up a a way for everyone to upload their images to the gallery. Basically, register on the site and then follow the link.
I would like to personally thank Bill Dunster for troubleshooting my 914 and getting it running, Doug Leehr for the loan of a starter, and Brad Mayeur for all his expert advice and support. And... someone gave me some points... I don't remember who that was but Thank You!
Bob, Nadine, Mike, and Kim... without you this event would not exist. Thanks for bringing my idea to full life.
Love this little guy Being raised right! He's been to EVERY Okteenerfest plus the day drive the year before this event was started.
Great shot Steve!
Thanks for posting it.
I won the "newbie" award and would like to thank everyone I met--what a great bunch of men & women. The best weekend I have had in years. Thanks to Bob, Nadine, Bill, Ali, several Steve's, Robbie, Joe, Bill (from Miami), Brad, Cliff, Peter and about 90 other folks. You all made my wife & myself feel welcome and shared your passion for the 914. I am looking forward to next year when we will have our car to attend the event with and someone else can claim the "newbie" award. Thanks to all the sponsors for the great "stuff" and the tips/info. Wow!!!
Jim & Sue and the anticipated black 74
Here's the man behind the camera:
What a great weekend, and to think I almost didn't make it over a .50 cent piece keeping the car from running! So glad I persisted.
Nice to final meet Peter and his son and so many others of you. Nice to see Doug L again and finally meet his father Bill (since my car spent many months in his garage ). Can't wait for next year, hope I can bring all three of my Teeners with friends and drive them all!
I hope others post more pictures, the RRC thread is putting us to shame. We had a lot of beautiful cars and people to enjoy them with, let's share the experience wit those that could not make it.

Shameless plug for my 75 copper metalic. Still needs work , but despite 143,000
Miles, I got an average of 34mpg on this trip, just need to deal with it running on the hot side.

PICTURES!!!
to make it easy for all the pictures to be in one place and so we can all share them:
First: go to the http://www.okteenerfest.com
Second: On the right hand side, you will see the link to sign in, or register if you have not already.
Third: Once you register/sign in, you will see Upload Your Photos, where you can pick each photo you want to upload. (sorry, can't do bulk uploads)
Simple!!
To View all the photos uploaded, go to the top of the page where it says PHOTOS, click on the drop down, go to 2015 Gallery. There you will see all the pictures , sorted into different categories.
Bob's gt3 in the foreground due to Huey's rusty/broken suspension issue and Bill H's Italian stallion. A very nice car. I'm sure the both would have preferred to have had their 914/6's but I have to say I have a bit of envy. Either way , glad those the could not bring their 914 still cam to enjoy the weekend.

It was an incredible event with lots of great people! I truly enjoyed meeting so many of the participants and making new friends and thought Bob, Nadine, Mike and Steve did a great job. I'm hoping to make it next year as well with a running car although, I might need to ride with Mike again so he doesn't get lost!
I know Steve is working on assembling a CD with photos and I am uploading my 180 pictures to a site for him but until then, the link to the pictures I took is below.
http://s273.photobucket.com/user/stephenaki/library/Okteenerfest%202015
Teaser photo:
I'll also start loading them up to the Okteenerfest website but, that's gonna take a bit with no bulk uploading capability.
Guess it's time to start planning next year's even!
Here are a few pictures. ALL of mine will soon be up on the Okteenerfest site...

George working hard.....on my car
There was a blue 914-4 that was leaving out Sunday morning and it had a different, lower exhaust note. Does anyone know who that might have been? Just curious to find out more about the exhaust.
Dee
Thanks Steve, but it wasn't Mike's car....I got a ride in his. It was another blue one.
Here is a video of one of the roads we liked.
Enjoy!
Bill
https://youtu.be/G5ujjMk2o4c
One more video. Remember the stuck semi on 221? I was following Bob and we were moving pretty good. The officer looked less than enthused on how fast we were driving.
Grat roads!

Interesting observation during the weekend.... I was standing at the hotel looking at the cars backed into their spaces one of the evening, and noticed the EVER car except one had the P O R S C H E letters on the engine decklid. I didn't take a picture, but went back through my pictures to see...Yep, most of you in STOCK class have the letters....
So much for NARP
Attached image(s)
It also looks like the chrome sail trim pieces on each car is in much better shape than what I have on my car
