914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Transmission Flange Damage

Posted by: 914Sixer Mar 22 2015, 05:31 PM

When I dropped the engine/trans last week for the the engine repair, I saw what appeared to be fairly new axles. I was thinking that was a plus. Well, I got out the power washer and assorted scraping instruments and got started cleaning up the trans. When the cleaning was done, I know why the axles looked to be new. Looks like driver side inboard CV came apart while traveling down the road. I have a spare pair of flanges so it was no big deal. While the trans was setting, I found the seal was leaking too.

It happens when a CV explodes. Bolt it back in and drive it!

Already replaced the seal and the axle flange. Going to change out the other side but I ran out of time today.
