My guess is the wheel wasn't properly tightened and may have led to the original fish tailing. Then again, he might just be a doofus!

I suspect his spin over the median flattened the tire, which then departed the wheel - I don't think the entire wheel left the car, because there was not a significant lean of the rear to that side, and he was still able to power the thing to the side of the road, probably destroying the rim in the process.

I suspect he was pissed at the two cars that ran the turn arrow light and he gunned it when the light turned green to give them a look at the car coming right at them. The road looks wet so he had no traction which caused him to dance, then he jumped the curb and broke the wheel loose which caused the rest of the dance. Boxsters too... When they start to go, all you can do is hang on.

I drive (until I get my 914 going) a Cl65 AMG, V12 twin turbo, 600 plus Hp.& 800 ft. lb. torque. Put 100 K on it and never turn off the traction control. Its plenty fast with it on !!!

He saw the road ahead and thought, I'm going racing! Didn't notice that he was starting in an inch of water (duh snow), couldn't wait to get on it, got it going, drifted left, throttle lift and corrected right, then left, right, left, median, right, embarrassed thinking I need to get out of here, hit the gas again, hard, but had lost the front left wheel, and proceeded to do the circus act again, until the pole made him wise up.

Used Cayman for sale, pristine condition, always babied, never raced.

I agree with the conclusion that the TC was off: after the first pirouette, I thought: "wow, lucky escape" After that, I'm not so sure...

I have a Cayman S that I track and autocross and it would be nearly impossible to do what he did unless you turned off the traction control. He had so many chances to save it that it is almost inconceivable that he messed up so badly.

Extremely poor driving skills for sure!

After thinking about it I believe that he just got the divorce settlement paperwork and he lost the cayman in the settlement.
I believe he was delivering the car to his now ex wife.
That looks intentional.

Seems there is a whole set of people who, having grown up in such a litigious and overly-sheltered environment, believe the entire world is set up to insure that no matter what their actions, there is some safety net in place to insure that they and their property cannot be hurt or damaged. Then they collide with reality. Scary thing is what convinced me of this is not the people I encounter while driving, but the people I encounter while rock-climbing. It takes a special kind of mentality to think that gravity will give you a pass.

And I hate to say it (I have a tiny bit of this gene myself): Once he realized that he fucked up the car with his first screw up, he probably decided (in haste) that he would rather have a totaled car than a slightly bent one, so in that split second he decided to ruin the car beyond having it fixed by the insurance.

But apparently he is as skilled at completely destroying a car as he is at driving in the first place.- FAIL

Let's see what he thinks when it scatters parts. Affording to buy one, and affording tow own one are two drastically different things.

Here's what I took to the scrap yard from the last 6 months of M96/ M97 tear downs. Not exaggerated, I just took it to the scrapyard.

WOW!! That would sure make anyone rational think twice when buying one of the models with that series of engine.
Are these higher power engines built well enough for the power output? Running too close to the edge?

Trust me, this stuff was too blown up to build from. I have a ton more of it (literally) and we get more every week.

Only a couple of these were driver error. Only a couple failed on the track, too.

That weighed 6,500 pounds and we gathered it in about 6 months of teardowns.
