you're talking about just the engine, right ?
basically the long blocks are the same. exhaust is different.
914 2,0 uses D-Jet (MPC) injection, 912E used L-Jet (AFC) injection.
there are tinwork differences due to the different mounting positions.
If memory serves the 912 E engine uses L-Jet F.I. while the 914 2.0 uses D-Jet.
That is the first thing that springs to mind.
No difference, except for the FI and Dizzy....It's esentially a '75-'76 Porsche Type 4 engine.
The biggest differance is they rotate in different directions. 912 being rear engine facing backwards and 914 facing front.

They are different, but the differences lie in the FI system and EGR arrangement for the Smog...
The internals and etc are the same as a 76 spec 914/2.0 engine.
912E engines DO NOT have serial numbers on the cases. I do a ton of 912E engine work and have yet to see a real E engine with a serial number.
I have an engine from a 76 912E with 50K miles on it for sale.. It is a factory built well maintained engine that drove into my shop a few years back and has been in my corner every since.. 1400.00 takes it in longblock form... I know its solid.

If you want to buy an engine, buy it from Jake. If he says it's good, odds are that it'll be very good. Much better than buying one in unknown condition. Just my opinion, fo course, but Jake seems like a very stand up guy. I would not hesitate to buy from him.
me either....i just need to get the FI parts and tin. or i could just use the heads off of the 912E engine if i buy it.

I have been keeping this engine for myself for the last 5 years...
I was going to install one of my shrouds and slap it into my 62 VW Bus...
I have too many projects and that bus will take another 10 years to complete.....
The engine doesn't need to sit around that long so I decided to sell it......
Its a used engine with no warranty. Like any engine it could go 5 miles or 500,000- its mechanical.
so the heads are obviously good then correct? Would I be competiting with other people on this engine?
The heads alone as cores are worth 5-700.00...
If the heads were not "good" I would not be selling the engine. It passed a leak down and compression check when I removed it- thats the reason why I didn't just tear it down and make a best out of it..
A factory assembled low mileage engine is difficult to beat.
Thats why I was gonna keep it.
One more person wants it, but I have no money yet..
that's awesome man!!!!! i'll get back to you in a day or two....my father wanted to get a 2.0 for my new pink car and i NEED new heads...so this sounds like a great deal!

Budget at least a couple hundred bucks for a set of 2.0 engine tin and a fuel injection system (or carbs).
