914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Missed an anniversary

Posted by: gandalf_025 Apr 28 2015, 06:17 PM

I finally decided to scan all the old paperwork I have on my car.
I stashed this stuff away a long time ago and figure digital
copies might not be a bad idea.
Then I noticed the date on the invoice. Oops, I missed it by a few days.
I'm sure I posted some of these before, but now I'm going to scan everything.

Great provenance Al,

Something very special to have for your car.

What was your trade in?

Posted by: Krieger Apr 28 2015, 07:16 PM

That's awesome! I love stuff like this.

Trade in was a 1968 Ford LTD.. I already had a few MGB's and a Corvair Turbo Coupe.
the Ford was a respectable car..
I wanted to buy a new 750 Honda and my parents weren't going for that.
They said Go buy another car instead. I said OK and went to
Lawrence to look at Porsche's. My dad knew the owner of the Dealership.
He bought his VW's there. I was 18 1/2

Mine started yesterday, 41 years ago. I remember walking around the dealers lot looking @ all the cool colors & shapes. I kept trying to get the old man to bite on the bumblebee, but he has his mind set on the creamsicle with the tan interior. So glad he didn't listen to his dumb ass 11 year old son. This Friday will be 41 years since the old man drove it off the lot with me riding shotgun.

This is great stuff. I was born in Methuen and my family lives in Newbury so its good to see there is also 914 family nearby, with historic documents to boot!
I have all my original paperwork as well but I am th third owner. This stuff is cool. Al, would love to see your car!

Those directions to Ralph Meany's shop are priceless!

Posted by: gandalf_025 Apr 30 2015, 06:25 PM

Yeah, I took the car to Ralph's a few times.
I was a kid and they weren't terribly helpful..

Except for the guy that built Ralph's engines.
He became a good friend and opened his own shop
after Ralph moved away. There were quite a few
2.7 mechanical FI engines running around the
Framingham area in the cars of some of the crazy
kids in the following years.
I still run a 3.0 twin plug he built in my wife's 86, 911.

When the old man bought the car, the dealer was still in Fairfax Circle, not Arlington where they are now. Not sure when HBL moved.

O.T.: Funny, I lived in Potomac for 30 years & so did the Creamsicle biggrin.gif
