914World.com _ 914World Garage _ car age question

Posted by: dale73914 Apr 28 2015, 08:09 PM

Hi,

I have a 914 that i am trying to classify.

It was sold to me as a 73 model, but the drivers door sticker says a build of Sept 1972.

It has retractable seatbelts which i assumed were a 73 onward issue.

I'm assuming it would have been first sold to a US owner in early 73.

So what is it ??

The reason i ask is i want to buy an owners manual , and am not sure what would be the "correct" year.

Cheers

Dale

Sounds like a 73, but what are the first 3 numbers of the VIN?

472 = 1972
473 = 1973

Most years the 914 production for a "model year" began the August of the previous calendar year. As James said, the VIN will tell you the model year.

BTW, the retractable seatbelts were available in the 72 model year.
