Putting my rear shocks back together and I have a couple shock blow-ups but they are not clear to me which washer goes where.

Heres what I have.. at least this was what I had in the "rear shock" baggie.

(not pictured is the washer that goes on above the top rubber bushing )

does it go like this.. with the big washer that looks like a fender washer?

or with the smaller one that is the same size as the bottom of the threaded bushing. #5 in diagram.

the smaller washer seems to have been specially machined for something like it may have gone under the lower spring retainer on the original shocks, but I am putting on KYB shocks and there is a shoulder that the top spring retainer rests against.
the recess in the washer does not fit over this shoulder.

from the drawings it looks like the stock shocks did not have this shoulder and maybe this washer rested on a step on the shock rod.

but they don't show a washer there in either picture. confused24.gif

this may be the correct washer for above the spring retainer.

The stepped washer is all that remains of the bump rubbers.

Hmmm, I don't have them then. is that an available part? Or can I just skip it.

The rear bump stops are NLA.

You need something in there to prevent the shock from bottoming out, which damages the internal valves.
At a minimum, on a race car, I use a few plastic washers (made for the purpose) so the shock stops travelling before bottoming, or the Koni bump rubbers as Jason suggested.

I had some from the fronts that I put in. I just used contact cement and glued them into the top spring retainer.

eventually I will go to bilstein rear shocks, I have bilstein for the fronts now.
I will keep in mind the Koni Comp. bumpers for then.

Thanks
