My bumpers arrived yesterday.
I know other people here have bought these before..
They seemed to be packed well and weren't damaged in shipping
They do look very nice.. I don't have a factory bumper handy to check the thickness of the metal,
but they do seem lighter than stock to me off hand.
My car isn't here now, so I can't check fit yet,
but they do appear to be well made.

I would think they will scratch easier than chrome,
but unlike chrome, they should
be able to be polished out.

These only come in the later rear bumper style with the more curved edges.

The cost was 1710.00 delivered to my door. A vendor from Georgia is selling them for quite a bit more,
unless you send him good cores and then charges 139.00 shipping.
Took 20 working days to be made. They said this is their busy season

Time will tell if they hold up well I guess.

However one stupid question: If they are remaking these in SS, then WHY would the seller require a "core"?

Geez.....yet another reason to be concerned about doing business with Georgia.... No reason whatsoever to have a core charge when buying a product made from scratch. They are not going to use our old, bent, rusty bumpers for anything in regards to the SS ones.

I bought these direct from the manufacturer in G.B. They own the factory in Vietnam.
Harrington Group is the Company. They make repro bumpers for many different types of cars.

The vendor I mentioned buys them from Harrington and resells them. HE is the one that wants the core bumpers and charges an additional 139.00 for shipping
If you look on e-Bay, you can see how much he sells cores for.

I called and inquired why his were so much more money and they gave me a
an unrealistic answer.

At 2200.00 plus 139.00 shipping it wasn't going to happen... But for 1710.00 delivered.. It looked like a realistic option for me at least.

I bought stainless from Harrington a few years ago. No core was needed and they made mine with no front license plate holes or rear tow hook hole.

$1700 delivered was about what I paid.

As mentioned the are very tender and scratch easier than chrome.

Here they are when I have them on my '72 before I got the original bumpers chromed. I put the SS bumpers on my red flared car but don't have any close ups of that car.

how hard is it to DIY polish stainless?
Is it just some kitchen polish and a buffer?

Side view mirrors on a 914 are stainless. They polish up great. Buffer or by hand.

"why" is a simple but unrealistic question. was 'because we can' the response? i think ** has employees that do as they are told. no matter how much they get yelled at.

My first thought was why would they need a core, then as I read on Its Georgia, then It came to me who's in Georgia oh ya him the man with means and ways to squeeze the extra $$.

I kept my original early rear bumper, It needs
some work and a rechrome. It is in storage
with the other parts I'll never put back on the car.
But will probably be of value to the next owner.

I was told the cost of making the early style rear bumper
wasn't worth it given the limited market.


When I asked the vendor why his bumpers were so much higher priced
I was told the company in the U.K was using inferior molds to
form the bumpers. That is pretty funny since there is only
1 company making these.

Be all that as it may, I think they made the ones I bought for my TR6. I am quite pleased several years later. Only problem is I cannot convince myself to discard the old ones. Building up a pile here.

yes all 70 bumpers are the same shape. Usually 914-4 owners could care less so that is the reason we are stressing the six connection. THEY are nuts about getting the exact parts (even though these days few unique six parts are even available) George Hussey dr914

So only 914-6 owners care about early rear bumpers that's why they attempt to classify all early rear bumpers as having come off a 914-6. I was afraid they might be trying to bump up their price by making them seem more rare than they are, but I see I was mistaken. That's a relief.
