I see Andy is already registered for full concours. Anyone else going?

Although it's not really a concours car (I drive it a lot now! ), I was thinking about entering my green 914-6 in the concours. It would push me to finish up the last few small things...
-Steve
I will be there, but I doubt my car will be running by then
I'll be there. I try to hide Speedy somewhere out front.
I would go but my sons Eagle Scout project is that weekend.
Hmmm.
I'll probably be there. Beware, Sara just attended Concours judge school and will be doing some aspect of the judging.
For a "reasonable" fee I will be willing to put in a good word for your car.
I'll be there judging too, but without the 914 since no real work done yet - let alone ready to show!
... I'll probably have the now resto'd/refurb'ed 88 Westy there though!
To those on the fence, we usually get a bunch of rare Porsches there in both display & entered, plus a number of great sponsors/vendors with lotsa goodies!
Last year Both Circle & Walter's Porsche had the new Macans there - 4 or 5 in all! Very nice Porsche car posing as a CUV!
We also may get that 918 Weissach that was at the Temecula Z8 CdE in January, since the owner sad he may come up from Carlsbad for it!
Temecula had an excellent 914 turn-out & everybody from the PCA-taildragger club & others commented on it!
So lets have a great turnout of 914s again, & display isn't that expensive considering the local parking situation.
If you folks are interested - I can check with the Chair to see if they can set aside a display area specifically for the 914s - if someone here is willing to get there early enough & "babysit" the 914/914world area to guide folks in & keep others out??
That person needs to be someone not entered & not judging, cuz that will take all their time.
Please email me if there is interest here & a volunteer "914 Wrangler" so I can contact the Chair for this aspect.
Plantman - GO!! It's your SON's Eagle Scout project - not yours, & he needs to do it himself!
Mike/Cuda - you should enter your blue 914 in the concours!!
Others please enter too! ...& any of your P-cars will do! Do it for fun or more serious competition as suits your style.
FYI - make it easy on yourself by just doing the Wash-&-Shine div. (interior & exterior only is judged), which is the best for folks daily driving their 914s.
The next easiest divisions are Street & Preservation (min 75% original) - where ext/int/engine/storage (trunks or open) are judged - so more to clean, or Ubergang (for newer P-cars where engine is not judged due to lack of access).
Full Concours is hardest since it adds undercarriage - or the underside of the cars are judged - 1/2 with engine & 1/2 without engine - so 6 judges per team there for all 6 judged areas! This is best for fresh restos & garage queens - or masochists who want to flog themselves!
SoCal Andy is doing Full Concours now to get his 914-6 "finished" as a top car, so his is a fresh resto which he drives, & then is a masochist to get ready! There are a few other Full Concours entrants you drive their cars daily or at least regularly.
Anyone thinking of entering, go to the PCA Zone 8 website under the Concours area, as there are a bunch of How to Prep, informational & rules downloads on there to help you out as both first timers & experienced contestants. The various Concours Prep & Judging Schools offered around Zone 8 are really good too.
Cheers!

hmmm. maybe ill just be lazy and do display then.
Ill probably show up.
I'll be there for the display. No way in hell I'm entering in the judges concours. I did it once, won, got my trophy, and will never do it again.
Possibly... Dana Point is a pretty cool site.
Does the PCA take the registration or is a 3rd party involved? tried to register....
Will take over the turbo. The bee won't be done yet. Hopefully will get it out to the redrock event.
Exclusive setting, last year well over 100 cars, and an impressive 1st class event throughout. Well organized. . . I'm just waiting to confirm weather forecast for the day.
Registered today for display only; will be an early AM volunteer too. Let's get a mass 914 turnout; Dana Point is a terrific destination anyway
Yowza, $35 for a display-only registration. I wonder if I can pay at the door, since I won't know until the last minute whether I will be able to take the 914.
Yes, in the past they have a $20 display entrance charge. That $35 includes a lunch. If you pay at the entrance thoygh, I don't think you can get a lunch At the event. That's not a huge deal though, as there are some awesome little cafes around the areas that have great lunch menus.
I registered for display only, too.
-Steve
Years ago you used to be able to park on the lawn for free if you were driving a Porsche. Now we have to pay to park on the lawn?
> So which one will your bring Steve? Last I recall you had 2-3....
I'm down to 2, and only 1 running. So the Green 6:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=217713
-Steve
I'm attending via your posting
See you guy's there
Im under the car today to prep and its a lot of work when you drive your car. Im finding WCR sand looking forward to the end of the season so i can just drive it and do a regular wash. Busy with the new job so its gotta get done today
I'm a bit confused on the Display Only fee.
The $35 Display fee includes lunch. Maybe I misunderstood, I thought Ethan said it's $20 at the gate there, but no lunch? Or is it still the same $35, but no lunch?
Personally, I don't want lunch, and 35 seems awful steep to just park.
You can pay $20 online just to park.
-Steve
I will be meeting another teener at 7:30 Sunday Morning at the below address to head up. Let me know if anyone would like to come along. The more the merrier.

> meeting another teener at 7:30 Sunday Morning
Sounds good - I'll try to make it.
-Steve
Yepp, I'll try to meet you guys there as well.
I encouraged a few more teeners at the McQueen event last Sat. to come to this one too.
If Eddie does make it with his orange 6 - then we'd have 3 original sixes there - along with Andy's & Dave's.
I will bring my display sign from that event that we can repurpose the backside for a 914 parking area ... if the powers that be will allow that.
You folks coming & not showing or judging/volunteering should take lotsa pix to post here, cuz it's hard for us folks entered/volunteering to do pix too, since some cars leave by the time we get done.
McQueen was a huge turnout for those that didn't make it!
Cheers!
Tom

> If Eddie does make it with his orange 6 - then we'd have 3 original sixes there - along with Andy's & Dave's.
Hey - and mine! (so that's 4)
-Steve
If you scroll down to the 3rd event at this page, there's more info & links on the Concours at this link ....
http://www.pcaocr.com/?page=1
.
BTW - most of those events are free to attend & the Krispy Kreme (last on page above) & some others are always open to the public/non-members for anyone looking for something Porsche to do!
Cheers!
Tom

I was going to go up for this, but now am committed to work that day
Okay - so I emailed with the Concours Chair & they will try to set up an area as a "914 Corral" & he liked the idea & so may do ones for other models too.
Try to pre-register by Wed. for the event's online entry cut-off time - but display only continues to Sat IIRC & then at the gate on-site.
Those playing it by ear & planning to register at the gate if you can to come - please post here so I can give them an estimate by Fri pm or Sat am.
So far based upon the list of entries & display only - I'm guessing 2-3 entered in the concours + 5-10 display only & there are currently 6 (1 + 5 on the list at the link on Steve's/Siverson's post #1.
I think we had about that many come to the Jan. Zone 8 Concours with the 918 Weissach in display - but most were just visiting & with Andy T & Dave W entered & side-by-side.
Hey - if you don't want to "pay to display" - just come out anyway & visit with folks & see 200+/- cool Porsches .... usually including a Porsche Tractor with trailer giving kids rides for free! (courtesy of Mr. Buck of Cape Auto).
You just park on the street or little parking lot, or if those are all full park at the state park parking lot across the way at the bottom of the hill ($10 day use fee IIRC) & walk up the hill - usually plenty of spaces there.
Bunches of places to eat around Dana Point, & their mayor is a Porsche owner & PCA member, so she usually comes out to support the event too.
Elliot - yes, South OC prices, but I did make the pitch with the event's chair to go to $10 display only fee with optional lunch, like San Diego & some of the others do.
I'll be judging in group TBD, but I'll wear something 914-ish so folks can find me.
If anyone needs input, tips or whatever as a judged entry, feel free to PM or better yet email me & I'll help where/how I can.
And before some of the yea-hoos on here start posting sad pix of my 914 in its wrecked & unrestored state - NO it's not done yet & won't be there!
See y'all there!
Tom

I go early to get parking on the street, then walk down to The Brig for breakfast in the Dana Point Harbor area. Any other Teeners want to meet and chow?
Last year, I had just gotten Speedy running, and was embarrassed at what a POS I was driving compared to the nice cars there. This year, I have the car a bit more developed, but it is a work in progre$$.
My car isn't "show ready," but it is a fun event. I'll see some of you knuckleheads there.
oops Mark is not coming anymore!!!!
Can non pca members display ?
Tom, I'll be there for the display corral and will pay at the gate, OK?
Do you have a preference for which car I bring?
The silver '74 is in better original condition, but people seem to really like the color of the blue '73. And, Lawrence loves the '73 Mustang mirrors on it.
Hey, I learned something new about my car last weekend..... don't trust the gas gauge when the needle is very close to the empty line.
My 6yo daughter will be riding up with me and is looking forward to the "914 parade".
-Steve
Elliot, are going to the event?
Did someone on here call my office number about Sunday's event?
If so, your name was hard to hear & make out - Rod, Rob, ???? - & I called both numbers, but the 310 was disconnected & 661 just gives a not at this number message but no chance to leave a voicemail.
If anyone here, just shoot me a PM or email so I can answer whatever question you had, or I'll give you my cell on there.
PS - Okay, I just realized that I put the last 4 digits of the 661 # on the 310 # the 1st time, & just redialed it & left a message with my cell # to call back.
Cheers!

Bring your car to the display, it's worthy !
Hey guys. I wanna jump in with you.
Rolling my turbo down because the bee is not done yet.
I will roll down around 5:30AM to park in front. Look for a blk on tan turbo& please introduce yourself from the site.
Look forward to meeting all you guys tomorrow am.
Whats a teener ha ha..
As it stands now, I'll be judging Engines on the Full Concours cars, if anyone wants to swing by to say Hi. So I get to peer deep into Andy's & Dave's Sixes!
I'd love to do the Brig breakfast if:
1 - I didn't have to do the judges meeting at 8:45 ... &
2 - if my wife weren't coming, which always gets us going at the last minute.
Cheers!

I'll be there for display only.

Going to try & park or pay to display at the gate if they let me.
Otherwise will park up front.
Where is the breakfast spot...?
Hey Tom. . we really need to get everyone together and meet. . and get a picture of all of us. . will be neat to finally be able to put a face with the screen names.
You can walk through Lantern Bay Park, down the steps to Dana Point Harbor. The Brig opens at 6:30.
Just registered for the PCA online.
Got my member # for tomorrow.
I hope I can pay at the gate to display.
Otherwise will park out front.
I will be at the brig 6:30 AM.
Thanks guys & hope to see your there.
^^ Lookin' good!
I was gone past two days for daughter's college graduation, so car may be a bit dirtier than I'd like. Will do a quick cleaning tomorrow a.m. Should get there about 10:00 or so, save a spot in the corral.

Great Event to all who attended.
Certainly wish I had my Bee done however,
I was very happy to meet all the 914 crew,
And finally put all the email tags to names.
Hope to see you all in Red Rock.

Best 914 ever
.... Thanx to all your Teeners who turned out!
I tried to get around to all of you before I had to start judging at 9:45 or afterwards, but my alarm failed to go off & I was there just in time for the 8:45 judges meeting. No - I can't blame the wife this time.
It was great to see some of you again & meet new ones for the first time in person, to put faces to the screen names as others have said above.
Apologies to Steve's daughter, as this is the first year since I've done it in 2009 that the Porsche Tractor & trailer was not there to give the kiddies rides!
Again as with our great turn-out in Temecula - I got a lot of comments from the other Concours judges, committee, other P-car owners, vendors/sponsors, etc. about how many 914s showed up, how nice they were & how nice it was for so many of the younger gen to participate in PCA events ... & then the eventual reminisences of how either their own earlier Porsche or a buddies was a 914, how great they handle, etc.
We 914 owners really are respected in the Porsche crowd now - as opposed to the 1970's snobbish tail-draggers who were really just jealous of how well our little squarish go-carts handle! Of course we still exchange jabs with each other in good humor!
Something it took Porsche another 35-40 years & gobs of electronic nannies to overcome in the tail-draggin' 911 clan!
Of note, while I was judging Full Concours - Engine (among 6 area judges on Exterior, Interior, Storage, Engine, Undercarriage w/ & w/out engine) - Both SoCal Andy & Dave/Toolguy had perfect scores ~ no or zero deducts!!!!
And as you know, Andy just drove 2000+/- miles for WCR in his! Dave - well lately Dave only drives his on & off the trailer! ... but still - out of the 7 Full Concours cars there - 2 914-6s, 2 early 911 & 912 (one 911 has 430,000+ miles & was the Peter Porsche Award winner at the Monterey Parade a couple of years ago), & 2 "modern" 911s (996/997) - BOTH 914s & the also driven 69 912 had perfect engines!
Much to Andy's chagrin - Dave won class for 914 in Full & the 912 won class & overall - but I'd bet that the overall scores were much closer. Several judges on the team commented that it would be almost impossible to pick a top score winner - & we don't tally the scores for each area - the scoring team does that.
Frankly, Andy got robbed on one 0.1 pt. by the interior judge which I wouldn't have deducted for his glovebox door not being perfectly centered at the ends - 1/16" at most difference, & I suggested a fix if he has another too-anal judge - since the door isn't really adjustable as we all know.
So here are some of my crappy & taken too fast cell phone pix of those I could get in the short time between the judges meeting & judging ....
As you saw in prior & much better pix - we had another 918 Hybrid Spyder at this Concours!!!!
.
.... more ....
.... more 918 ....
^ Guy in the shorts & USC hat to wife: "But Honey, it really is a Hybrid, can't we get one!!??"
^ hard to see the "electric green" surround at the chrome in this pic, but great badging too! ^
.
And as a side note from somebody looking for a nice used Cayenne S - Why can't Porsche have decent colors available, like this Bitchen' Metallic Blue on the Macan S across from the 918!!?? BTW - the Macan S's pure Porsche biturbo 3.6L V6 is replacing the V8 in the newest gen Cayenne S!
.
... 1 more Macan S ....
.
And BOTH of you guys coulda - woulda - shoulda gone into Display, cuz your 914s were both nice examples & several people commented that you shoulda ... even non-914 types!
.
... although I do understand if money vs free was an object, but just don't be put off folks - all Porsches are appreciated here & they display well rashed track cars all the time & you saw several there!
.
.... more ....
... more Woulda - Coulda - Shoulda Displayed!
.
.... and from the little lot off the right about 1/4 the way up that hill ....
.
And we'll try to get this problem fixed for next year! They cut out 1/2 the street parking with this no parking on one side all the way up. I'd heard that it was supposed to say something like "Reserved for PCA Porsche Event Parking Only" - not no parking period! Dang city bueraucrats!
.
.... more ....
... This 914EV discussed above was indeed a clean enough judged entry to win in 914/914-6 Class under Specials for modified cars ....
.
... but no matter what mods & tweaks that I've done, our cute little Westy was not allowed in! She's pouting here!
.
.... more ....
... And then there were the excellent 914-6 twins from here by Dave/Toolguy (Silver) & SoCal Andy (Screamin' Yellow) - as discussed above - on any given day, either one could beat the other, & both are worthy of taking overall in Full Concours - if the judging gods would just go their way!
.
.... more ....
... 1 more of Dave's -
I wish I'd gotten a shot of Dave's sweet custom built low-boy car haulers which he built for this car! It was the tandem axle one in a platinum grey metallic & silver with Porsche stickers, parked at the top of the hill cul-du-sac, just past the handicapped space. Rumor is Dave is applying for a handicapped placard so nobody can park behind his rig next year!
.
... I don't know his screen name on here, but he's won 914 class in Street for a few years running on this nice 10+/- year old resto, including last year when I judged in the Street Division (Exterior, Interior, Egine & Storage - IIRC I was Engine last year too) ....
^ I love his louvered rocker panels too! ^
Remember, we don't judge originality at these local Region & Zone 8 Concours, just preparation & presentation - just too many cars/models/MYs/sub-models/trims/etc. for anyone at this level to know them all! Originality does come into it at Parade on the national level judging though!
That's it for the 914s entered in judged categories! On to the Display guys next!
.
.... more ....
... The 914 Corral ended up more like a Herd Round-up - with 914s spread around a couple of places, so getting a group shot didn't work out as Dave/toolguy suggested, by the time different ones in Display were taking off, the entered guys were still waiting for awards & their drive-up for presentation of same.
We did get great initial placement by the entry driveway just above the judging area & below the Marriott, thanx to Jim Hoyland & a couple of others there with Jim, but we had some non-914 interlopers.
Unfortunately you guys were off perusing cars when I ran up there for some quick pix before I had to start judging, so sorry I missed you Jim & others up there!
Thanx Again to all you Teeners who came out!
And a few others ended up down in the lower area with Ethan & Steve, which is where I'll start, since some of you may not have known they were over there.
Ethan probably thought he was getting off incognito, but several non-914 folks commented that they remembered his car from the article! He also came in handy to make the point that young folks are into 914s & Porsches, use them as DD's, & wrench &/or restore them themselves!
.
Steve's green 6 is just purr-fect with those Mahle Gasburners!
IMHO that wheel was perfectly designed for the 914 shape & look!
.
And then I just Marathon Blue 914s! My fav factory paint color!
... if they only put that on Cayennes!
Actually the 2006 Cayenne S Titanium Ediition did come in Iceland Silver - which is a bit paler version of a silvery-blue similar to Marathon, which is our top choice Cay-S in our current search - if we can find one with the proper fixes & updates.
.
.... more ....
.... And now for the "Front Gate Crew" ....
.
... And then Mike/Cuda got there a bit later & "held the watch" until almost the bitter end, along with his folks & sister? in her yellow Cayman, also on Display down below...
.
While I tried to get around to meet-n-greet & Thank everyone from here who came out, & to get at least a pic or two of your 914s - I know I missed a few, so hopefully we'll meet up again at a future event, & hopefully others on here caught some pix of any 914s which I missed while judging etc.
Next up are LA at the Santa Monica Airport's Museum of Flying on July 12 - I know, I know .... Bruce has G&R now on the same day - so maybe make it a two-fer that Sunday!?
... and then San Diego is at Shelter Island on Aug 22 with a kinder start time, with judging starting at 11:30, & Display cars are only $10 with their placement starting at 9:15 - 10:30 & judged cars at 8:30 - 9:30.
Las Vegas - err Lost Wages - is Sept 20th IIRC, but check the Zone 8 calendar.
Santa Barbara Region is Oct 18 up in Thousands of Oaks - or Thousand Jokes as we called it!
Golden Empire is in Bakersfield Oct. 25.
Arizona is Nov. 7th - after the cactus stops frying out there!
You can get links to all of these & the past events (for downloadable posts from some - like Temecula & Festival of Speed) at this link...
http://www.zone8.org/calendar.php
This calendar of events also a great way to see the range of events offered by PCA Zone 8 & its Regions, & then each Region has their own social events - both low & high brow.
Our OC Porsches & Doughnuts every 3rd Sat. 8:30 - 10-ish at the Krispy Kreme at "The Outlets' in Orange ust off the SR22 Garden Grove Freeway is one example of a low key gathering open to anyone & everyone!
.
That's All Folks!!
Post more pix.....
Sounds good on the Orange group and I bet we could get more from the surrounding area too.
Had a good time in Dana Point and a great showing of 914's with 3 winning their class and me with 1st looser. more cleaning I refuse to trailer my car!!!
Attached image(s)
NO Andy!
You got 2nd place in Full Concours against a strong competitor's very nice resto, but he's not going to as many events - so it's your 4 top scores of the season buddy for overall Zone 8!
PS - I'm pretty sure that from my 1/6th of the scores on Engine & talking with all the other judges - I think that it was Brett with the red 912, Dave's & your 914-6's as 1, 2, 3 as overall top scores in Full Concours - in front of the other four 911s in the division!
Plus I think I solved your out-of-state show dilemma in my email to you today!
Wait & see com Jan 2016!
So how about a just drive, hang out & eat doughnuts & drink coffee event?
Krispy Kreme "Porsches & Doughnutz" is this Saturday 6/20 8-10 am off the SR22 at State College in Orange at The Block/Outlets ...
This is an open to all & informal event ... maybe a good chance for a group pic??
Too many tail-draggers in that pic below .... we gotta fix that!
<snipped>
Gary Labb invited you to Porsche Club of America - Orange Coast Region's event
PCA-OCR Krispy Kreme Gathering
Saturday, June 20 at 8:00am
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts - Orange, CA in Orange, California
People start gathering about 8 am... usually there until 10 am... Come enjoy some coffee and doughnuts, some nice people, some great conversation, and of course, some very nice cars...
<end snip>
BTW - I made the pitch to the Zone 8 Rules Committee to change the Concours classes to separate out the 914 & 914-6 in the easiest Wash & Shine Division - as it is in all the others, so that folks who DD &/or AX their 914s & want to enter in the future, don't have to be grouped in with all of the 911s & 912s.
W&S only judges the exterior & interior, so you basically clean & detail your 914 a bit & you're good to go, or just bring it unprepared & screw the trophies!
Cheers!
Tom
///////
By the way ... with Andy's 4th Concours at this OCR event, as of now I think he's maybe in 3rd or 4th place overall in all of Zone 8 vs. 33 competing in all car models' classes for the Full Concours Division so far, & can probably complete what other stuff he needs to qualify for a 2015 Zone 8 award if he does so!
I was looking back as far as 2009 & no other 914s have done enough Concours to even qualify for a Zone 8 year end award - since it takes a minimum 4 in a year & either 51% of all or 33% + 1 out-of-state & 300 volunteer or judging service points.
Final standings are taken for the top 4 score events of the year.
Andy has maybe +/- 3 more CdEs which he could still do better scores in to catch up the +/- 0.4 - 1.4 points which he's behind the two #2's/3's & #1 respectively. I'm guessing at this point cuz they haven't posted last Sunday's scores yet in the overall standings.
So lets at the upcoming events!
He's tuned into a real CW!
It's been a loooong time since a 914 has won anything at the Zone level here!
Maybe someone should add a YELLOW 914 smilie to the list at the left in his honor!!??
Cheers!
Tom

In reading my June 2015 Panorama last night, I came across Andy's car featured in the Regions' News section on pg. 114 at the Cal Inland Region's Concours at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita CA (near 6 Flags Tragic Mountain).
It helps get coverage for our 914s when the Concours Chairman or organizer is a Teener from way back in the start, like Mike F. who did the write-up took the pix. It took Andy hours to wipe Mike's off his yellow screamer!
IIRC he won class & 2nd overall in Full Concours in that one.
BTW - For those who don't get Panorama - the subscription to Panorama is only $46 a year & comes with another local PCA Region monthly magazine &/or e-Zine in most areas, admittance to many free & some paid exclusive Porsche events throughout the year and .... oh yeah, PCA Porsche Club membership for 2 - you & an "Associate" (spouse, kid, friend or whomever you name)!
FYI - Excellence is about the same cost per year without the other goodies!
Cheers!
