914World.com _ 914World Garage _ The next G & R Riverside 914 swap meet

Posted by: bdstone914 Jun 14 2015, 11:33 AM

I was made aware that some people were still thinking that the swap was still at the original location. It is being held at a new location at my shop at 10000 Indiana Ave, Riverside.

After many discussions with my landlord I have come to an agreement regarding the hosting of the next Riverside swap meet.

Date: Sunday, July 12 2015, 6AM -until all of you leave.

Where : My shop and parking lot area at 10000 Indiana Ave Unit #9, Riverside CA 92053

https://www.google.com/search?q=10000+indiana+AVe+riverside+Ca&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Located off of Indiana Ave between Tyler and Jackson. Will post a map for those who are directionally and Google search challenged.
My shop is in the second building back from Indiana facing away from the street. There are usually many red and yellow signs for the neighboring BBQ Island shop called Gillian's Islands. If you can't find with those directions you should probably sell your 914 and start riding the bus.

I am trying to keep the G & R swap meet tradition going as a not for profit swap meet. Have had many discussions with the landlord who believes that a special insurance permit is needed for the one day event. If I do have to get a special permit I will request a $10 per seller donation to help offset the added cost.

Food: While a BBQ has long been the tradition of the swap meet my ultra conservative landlord feels having an open flame gas BBQ is far too great of a liability. Was not able to convince her that I can and have operated far more dangerous equipment than a gas BBQ. She seems to think there is damage potential the solid concrete wall building by having an open flame BBQ. Seems to think that dangerous job could only be entrusted to a seasoned professional.

Food options I am considering are catered tacos with three kinds of meats, rice and beans or pre-made sub sandwiches with side salad and chips. Opinions welcome. Cost for tacos is $5-7 per person depending on the amount of people served. 50 people will be a flat fee of $400 and 100 people will be $550. Two types of soda included in the price. Subs and sides will run about the same.

In in effort to accomodate Elliot's vegetarion choice we will offer vegetarion tacos also known as tortillas warmed up in pure lard or if we go with sub sandwiches will have vegetarion subs also known as buns. poke.gif

Water and soft drinks will be available with either food option used.
We will have donuts in the AM. Will see if I can round up enough coffee makers to have coffee available. If you want to grab you own there is a Jack in the Box and a Carl's Junior just south of the 91 on La Sierra Ave which is one mile away from the shop.

Knowing Ron's long time surpressed desire to be a concours judge I appoint him honorary Courcours Marshall. He will be armed with white gloves, Q -tips, and a clipboard and entrusted with task of finding all non original parts and admonishing the owner appropriately. chair.gif

Swap spaces will be in the striped parking spaces adjacent to the shop. E-Z ups are recommended as the weather will likely be hot in mid July. Parking spaces park as "Desa Auto Sales" are off limits. The curb stops have sings on them and could be damaged by some careless parking. Yeah I know. We have about 20 car spaces available along the North- South wall. Car parking will be between the first and second (10000 building). Few other businesses are open on Sunday so parking should not be an issue.

The landlord explicitly stated that no alcohol can be served. I had no intention for serving anyone so if you want a beer bring your own and be discrete. I have indoor air conditioned offices were you are welcome to hang out and down a brew while admiring my collection of too many shiny parts and wonder why anyone in their right mind would end up with so many 914 parts.

Other rules per landlord. No pets. Clean up your swap space. You can leave unwanted parts in my shop or we have dumpsters available for disposal.

Please reply to this thread to keep it bumped and to give me an idea as to the number of people who are may to attend. Pass the word to those who may not frequent this forum or any 914 owner you know.

I will also be posting Craigslist ads with a similar announcement and will request that others help post in same info in the LA, San Diego and surrounding areas.

Please reply to this thread to keep it bumped and to give me an idea as to the number of people who are may to attend.

Damnit! I was looking forward to this, but it appears my commander/wife has other ideas. None of which include me going to your swap meet. I guess I'll continue to collect parts and money for next year. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive Bruce. I'll have to get your landlord's contact information to thank her as well. Jim

Marked on the calendar.
Will be there with a few parts.
Thank you Bruce beerchug.gif

This is great news. I'll be looking forward to this event as I have in the past. Luckily, I don't need much for the car and don't have any parts to sell but for me, the best part of the G&R was just hanging out with other 914 friends. If you need something for your car and can't find it at the swap meet, I'm sure Bruce will have it at his shop. Bruce has spent some effort and time to keep this event going. Let's all try to make it there and show our support.
If you need something specific or you have something to sell, make an announcement on this thread (or start a new one) and let everyone know what you need or have to sell. Maybe we should invite Bruce's land lord to the event and she can see what a great group of people we are and we will be able to thank her personally. We could probably hide SLITS somewhere till she leaves. av-943.gif
See you all there, Elliot

See you there Bruce! Glad to see both the concours in Dana Pt and your G&R event next month. I am good for the 10.00 fee but do not have enough parts to need a slot. It will be worth it to see all of the 914ers.

Will be good to see you Elliot. My land lord is a very nice and very Austrian elderly lady. Love her but she drives me nuts with her overly cautious attitude.
Fortunately she is not around on Sundays but wanted to be sure all the conditions would be met. I have never nor do I know a 914 owner to bend the rules.
As one of my Army drill instructors taught me " it ain't wrong unless you get caught"

How about a shirt with Ron in a walker yelling "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF-A MY PARTS ?

Thought about calling it the BS swap meet as those are my initials. Call it what ever you want. Not for sure it will be tacos. Waiting for opinions as subs may be more preferred on a hot day.

Dang! sad.gif

Same day as the LA Concours & Porsches + Planes at the Santa Monica Museum of Flight & I am committed to judge there!

...and NO, white gloves are NOT allowed for PCA judges & Q-tips are for competitors' cleaning only! biggrin.gif

Hopefully the Fall one won't fall on a date when I'm either committed or out of town.

Thanx for picking up this tradition Bruce. We were just discussing when & where G&R might continue at the OC PCA Concours on Sunday!

At least now Bruce won't need to load & unload 2x all his parts! piratenanner.gif

Cheers! beerchug.gif

1974 1.8 is a unique muffler. 75-76 are the kind no one wants and fit 2.0
or 1.8. Which do you need? I do not have any at this time.

I have hoods. The cups can be bought new from Airhead parts. I have a nice hood at the shop. Only problem is it is drilled for a hood badge. The rest are at the house.

Posted by: Blue6 Jun 22 2015, 10:05 AM

Hi Bruce, not sure which muffler. My car is a 74 1.8 and I'm looking for something that fits in the stock location as I want to run the stock rear valance. Doesn't have to be stock, just not excessively loud. Car came with a Monza with numerous holes.

Is it an early or late tank? I may need an early tank. If yiu want to bring it and it does not sell you can leave it and i will sell it eventually if it is an earky tank for the metal expansion tank.

Posted by: Elliot Cannon Jun 24 2015, 07:40 PM

There is no expansion tank on it. The car is a '73 and I can only assume the tank is as well. I'll bring it. I'd rather someone use it rather than just toss it, which was my next move. smile.gif

This event has been added to the calendar. Hopefully I'll be able to make it.

If anyone wonts to and can help out by posting this event on Samba. Craigslist San Diego, Ventura, OC and other surrounding areas. PCA club boards. etc. anywhere you think we can get the turnout ramped up, feel free to copy and paste the info.

I drove out to Chambers last weekend for the swap and boy I have to say I started buying from myself and bargaining with the left brian to sell it back to my right hand. Yes it was a lonely turnout. Lets not have that happen with the first swap at the new location. POST IT POST IT POST IT.
Bstones ( our host ) is ok with this as well.

I was made aware that some people were still thinking that the swap was still at the original location. It is being held at a new location at my shop at 10000 Indiana Ave, Riverside.

I'm 50/50 right now and hoping to make it down next week. I was hoping to pick up some shiny bits from Bruce AND sell this setup.

I'm thinking $350 for the 1.7 exchangers and the Sebring exhaust. Exchangers and exhaust pipes are all solid.

The muffler is a Thrush and is brand new...just bought it and had it welded on ($100 spent). i decided to go a different route with the exhaust so this setup is up for sale....I'll include the new flanges seen in the picture.

PM me if you are interested; if I can't make it down to deliver maybe another local teener can take it down for me....or I can deliver myself if within say 30 miles of LA.

thx, Gary

Would be good if you can make it but chances are slim to sell that as a package in the summer. Post it in the classified and break out the muffler. I know more people needing a muffler than heat exchangers.

OK, got it on the calendar and loaded up the Tacoma today

I'm planning on bringing the following items:

* Complete (or almost complete) '75 2.0L D-jet injection system (+ extra parts) $350.
... (includes plenum, air tubes, TB w/TPS, MPS, ECU, harness, injectors, air filter box, ... fuel runners, etc.)

* REAL NICE F&R OEM bumper tops. NO ripple, all studs & nuts great $400. (set)
... (or $200. each)

* Rear bumper top. Very solid and all studs are nice. No ripple, but finish is rough. $100.

* Stock (late -'75) steering wheel with butterfly horn ring $75.

* Rear shock tower brace kit - $60.

* Some sort of after-market exhaust with flat-pack quiet muffler $75.
... (comes with a rear valance specially cut out to accommodate the muffler tail pipe)

* Engine mount bar (side-shift style) clean, painted silver $50.

* Rear window (non defrost) - nice and clean $30.

* Air conditioning condenser (F trunk mount) with mounting bar $30.

* Boxes of other misc items that you''ll get to drool over at the event drooley.gif

Non 914 items:

* 911 oil tank (install in a 911 or use in a '6' test run stand confused24.gif $150
... (it's been cleaned and painted black)

If any of these prices seem too high, make me fairly reasonable offers - I just might accept them confused24.gif

NOTE: (Seller reserves the right to edit this post to add, delete or modify listings if any of the above items sell prior to the event).

I have a 1.8 muffler I can bring up. I think it's in pretty good shape. Some pitting, but nothing through the metal.

I have a bursch for 1.7 and '74 1.8 I'll bring. It's brand new, never mounted. Plus I'll bring some other 1.8 parts, mostly L-Jet bits. Also have some marginally useful parts I might just give away if anyone wants them.

See you all Sunday!!

We could probably hide SLITS somewhere till she leaves. av-943.gif
See you all there, Elliot

agree.gif I wanted to make this one to buy a spare tail light lens from Bruce just to even things out. I feel like I got to him on the last one I bought. av-943.gif I'll get one this Fall. If anyone has either of these I could pick them up later at Bruce's. I am looking for a black spare rear trunk lid and a working OEM AC evaporator. beerchug.gif

Nice to see some old faces and meeting some new boys & girls.

A big thank you as well to those who helped to lighten my load of spare parts, although I still have tons more to get rid of before the end of the year.

I stopped in to visit with Peter (0396) for a while on my way home ... he seems to be doing exceptionally well considering the situation he's currently facing aktion035.gif

Just an FYI, I'll be hosting a BBQ later in the year too - it will mainly be a lift dismantling party and possibly a small swap meet if there's enough room in the parking lot confused24.gif ... stay tuned ...

I can't assign any names to this picture because there are still warrants out for one of them. (The one in the middle). smoke.gif

What a great turn out and even some great treasures found ! Can't wait till the next one !!!!

Thanks Bruce for picking this up. While Glenn & I enjoyed our multi year run, the circumstances required we give up.

See you at the next one.

And Elliot, the wanted poster was recalled. The warrant was for my evil twin. I can't speak for Taco Paco or his blanco gringo friend.

It was great seeing all of you again.

Thanks Bruce for continuing the G&R tradition and putting this on. As usual i spent more than I made. I look forward to the next one so I can try to sell the same stuff again. What's nice about this swap meet is that there is good prices, but its also hard to sell high dollar items such as bumpers. Does anyone besides me bring more than a hundred dollars to these swap meets?

Posted by: Larmo63 Jul 13 2015, 05:15 PM

I sold about $450 worth of stuff. I bought the $10.00 bumper.

Posted by: Steve Jul 13 2015, 05:34 PM

I can only imagine what a $10.00 bumper looks like. I was trying to sell a good driver rear bumper for $100.00. Everyone said it was a killer deal, but nobody had the money,
I spent around $300.00 and sold around $200. Not including the two $10.00 taco plates from the taco stand for my daughter and I.

Steve, someone will take your rear bumper next time. As discussed, this was a good deal. chowtime.gif
I got rid of a good portion of my selection. Thank you to all buyers. beerchug.gif
Looking forward to the next one.

I was there to sell stuff, so I passed up some real good deals - parts that were priced ridiculously low were still available at closing time blink.gif

Got my '73 officially back on the road a couple weekends ago (after a 9 year rest in the garage) just in time to attend the G&R > BS swap meet.
Was great to see so many nice cars and friendly owners clap.gif

Finally uploaded a few pics ...

My wife really like the yellow car just behind my dark grey.
