It's my sad duty to tell you that our own Cap'n Krusty, John Larson, has passed away from pancreatic cancer. It was my honor to call him my friend.
Damn it.
Thanks for everything, Cap'n.
Terrible news
Whoa!!! Another ones gone.
RIP
Damn....so sad to hear this, he was truly one of the great ones and will be missed for sure.
I did not personally know him, but his build thread of his grey Subaru powered 914 inspired me and I followed it with great interest. You will be in my thoughts John Larson and family, rest peacefully my friend.
Finn
I feared it was something drastic that came on sudden. The was a piece about pancreatic cancer on one of the morning shows. People feel fine one day, bad the next, and the progression is rapid and fatal.
When John explained things, in his special way, I read and paid attention. I'll never forget his generosity when he hosted lunch at his shop during the 05' WCR. Nor his help. My car would'nt start. He walked back to the shop and fetched a wrench. "Tighten the battery terminals". Vroom and off I went seeing John waving in the mirror.
Though I never had the opportunity to meet him, he earned my respect with his countless contributions to this community. My condolences go out to his family.
Damnit. We lost an icon. Vaya con Dios, amigo.
RIP Cap'n.
I only corresponded with you a couple of times but you were a knowledgeable and courteous asset to this community. The World will be a little less awesome for your passing. Thank you.
We will all benefit from his advice, especially when adjusting our valves.
RIP Cap'n. You will be missed!
RIP ........... Capn
Terrible. Pancreatic is always bad.
Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
My introduction to the Capt. was valve timing, and although I've only been here a couple of years, it was pretty obvious that the Capt was well respected and loved on this forum.
God Speed Sir.
already missed.
John with his youngest son, Tim.
Our community just lost a treasure..
Godspeed Capt.
Very sad...
What a great guy and resource to this site. I have also seen his posts on the other 914 sites. He will be greatly missed!!!
I know he was good friends with JW aka Otto. Hopefully they are both together in 914 heaven discussing old memories.
Well, my World just got a lot emptier. The Cap'n was someone who I respected nearly above all else that I've met in the community. I'm honored that he thought enough of me to share some of his memories, tips, tricks and just generally good conversation over the past year. I told him that I thought we probably we would have gotten along great in person if we weren't so far apart because we both thought a good dose of honesty is really what people need when they're asking for "help" sometimes. He seemed to have gotten a kick out of that.
My knowledge of cars, and the way I see the world in general wouldn't be the same without him...
RIP Capt. Will miss yor advise.
So sad to hear that about John .... a great guy!
I just lost my aunt to pancreatic last month, so sympathies to his family!
Tom

What terribly sad news! I've only been on this site for 2-3 years but I can say we lost a legend here! While John is on his way to 914 Heaven my prayers are with his family for this tremendous loss! RIP Capn' and Godspeed!
RIP John...
So terribly sorry to hear it. Always a helpful voice to the less knowledgeable (and that's all of us).
Condolences to his family and close friends.
RIP
Terrible news. Condolences to all lucky enough to have known him
RIP
Terrible news. So sorry.
John, despite his moniker here, was one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Too nice in many respects. I sometimes think he liked having me around the shop because I wasn't afraid to tell people when they were taking advantage of him. I once cussed out one of his best friends because he got 5k worth of work done to his car for only 2k in price, then was bitching about it. I called him an ingrate, and a few other choice words. John thanked me later, because he may have wanted to say it, but felt he could not.
If any of you folks are on the other Porsche or Audi sites, or other places he used to post, please pass on his passing. I'm not up to doing anyplace other than here.
RIP
We have certainly lost a treasure... I really respected that man and his views. He spoke from first hand experience, and had a ton of it.
Such a sad day.
The 914 community suffered a huge loss with his passing. RIP John and may you always be crushing with the top off and the sun shining. Condolences to his family.
Oh Cap'n my Cap'n. You're one of the reasons I joined the World. Your knowledge and wit will be missed. See you in the next life. Prayers for you and your family.
Never met the man but PM'd him for info many times. Last time it was about the differences between the GA vs. the GB. RIP John.
RIP
Awful news, RIP John
Met him at the Phoenix Club swap meet. I could tell he wasn't well and decided not to bargain the price down for parts. He seemed like a cool dude my condolences to the family.
So sad to hear. RIP John
The best 'grumpy guy' ever. Full of knowledge and always ready to help, with a lovable gruff exterior. It's a terrible loss.
I would ALWAYS read his posts. He was a great guy. Wish I had met him in person.
We were privileged to have known and learned from you John.
RIP and peace to your family.
So sorry to hear this, the Capt owned this forum he will be greatly missed by all of us. I salute you.....
Had a few conversations with the Gentle-man. Going to miss his insight and knowledge. Sad day indeed, RIP kind sir!
Rest in peace John
Condolences to the Larson Family
So sad,,,,,RIP
Rest in peace, we all will miss you and your contributions to the 914 community.
I met the Capt at Jonathan's sale in Santa Maria several years ago. John impressed me as a very articulate, intelligent, compassionate person; in addition to being an encyclopedia of Porsche information
Godspeed Cap'n. What a great shame to lose him to our hobby.
My condolences to his family. Rest In Peace John.
So grateful that gentleman like John take the time to contribute their hard earned knowledge to this forum. Thanks for your time here Cap'n. You will be sorely missed... RIP
Such a stupid waste....have another friend going down that road too.
R.I.P.
Sad news. RIP Cap'n
So sorry to hear..A GREAT 914 GUY..Rip..
I never met him, wished I had, but have learned a bunch from his posts. May his memory live here with his written word.
RIP Thoughts and prayers to his family (including his teener family).
Ah, shit.
i hate this part of life
Good man. I'll miss him.
Ohno
Very sad news. RIP John . Super nice guy and not at all Krusty as many have said. The way he stepped up for his niece when she needed help is a great legacy for him. At least we have his posts to remember him by.
RIP
We can all be so lucky to have left an impact on a community of people like he has. RIP.
Honor him by driving your 914 tomorrow.
I first met John at the Ventura Show at the Ventura County fairgrounds. I used to see him and his wife at the show at the Hilton at LAX every year and many other events. He was far from Krusty in person, easy going, slow easy talker and his Porsche experience and knowledge was second to none. He lived in Santa Maria which is about 60 miles south of me. He stopped by the house about a year ago and we had a nice visit. He and I are the same age, both Air Force veterans from the 60's. Sorry he's gone. He will be missed.
To John Larson, Captain Krusty: You may be gone, but will never be forgotten. We will sorely miss you. : > (
RIP, John. The Cap'n helped many of us by sharing what he had learned, and he will be long remembered by us 914 folks.
Might have skipped other posts in a thread, but never his. Always had just the right mixture of expert information with brutal honesty. Sad news to hear of his passing, but we will forever have his posts. Godspeed, Sir!
Rest in peace sir! I owe you for much! Thankyou for all of your help!
He answered so many of my questions, will be missed...
Create a Cap'n Krusty Corner.
Dump all of his posts and responses for everyone to enjoy.
~
Smooth sailin' Cap'n, we are all... just behind you.
Rest in peace John. . . I'm forever grateful for your help and wisdom. Your show of support for my son and I in Bonneville was so kind and genuine. I'm better because I knew you.
Godspeed Cap'n. . .
My deepest condolences to Johns family and friends; you all will be in my prayers. . .
RIP ! Cap'n you will be missed. Thanks for the memories bud. I will treasure your krustiness
R.I.P. You'll be missed.
Awesome guy! I learned so much from him. I am very grateful for the knowledge he has passed on to us over the years. RIP
My sympathy goes out to Cap'n Krustys family and his extended 914 family as well. you can see the measure of the man in the way this community is celebrating his life. Thanks for your posts Cap'n
Deepest Condolances for a great man who loved his art and craft, shared his knowledge, and cared for his friends. Thank you eternally for your gift of life and Porsche knowledge shared here for us all.
I am native Santa Maria born and the son of an Air Force man. Dads car spent two decades rolling across the Santa Maria Valley while my father taught me to be a man. While I didn't know him as a kid, his posts and presence were home to me, you kind of understand people from your home town, and I will miss him. His life is not only a testament to hard work, but character, which we can humbly note and emulate.
Rest in Peace John, CapN. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
I can't think of anyone on this board who does not have a spirit of helpfulness, but John was clearly in a class by himself. He will be greatly missed. His family is in my prayers.
He will be missed, I loved his brutal honesty. A real 914 guy to the core.
RIP
May God Bless and watch over John's family.
Pancreatic cancer is tough to beat.
I did not know him but enjoyed the information he shared.
Rest In Piece.
RIP John. I'm new to this forum but am amazed at the respect and admiration you created with friends who knew you both personally and virtually. We should all hope to have the kind of impact in life that you clearly have made.
Steve
RIP Cap'n & God Bless ,
What a sad loss. RIP Cap'n
RIP Krusty - Thanks for all you did
I will miss him. He has passed on a great deal of knowledge to us all. I loved reading his posts and enjoyed the humor. RIP John. Pancreatic cancer is tough. Our niece's husband is only 55 and is battling pancreatic cancer. I asked my Dr. about it and he said there is only a 4% survival rate. The problem is, by the time they can diagnose it, it is too late. He told me if you are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, after you see your Dr., the next person you see is the funeral director to make your final arrangements.
RIP Captn 914...
RIP Cap'n.....John was definitely a pillar of the community. You will be missed by us all.
RIP Cap'n. John was a real asset as far back as the early Rennlist days.
My condolences to his family, friends and the 914 community.
It is sad to see so many of the greats passing. Cap'n, Otto, Warren, Grady, so many others.
I did not know him personally, but it was a pleasure to do business with him, a gift when he shared his wisdom, and a badge of honor when he corrected you if you did or said something foolish.
RIP to John, and Peace to his family.
I've never felt so sad to lose a friend I have never met in person. RIP John
A giant has left us. Most of the time, when we're told something we don't want to hear, we try to discount and refute. When The Cap'n said it...you paid attention.
His technical knowledge was encyclopedic, but more importantly he shared his perspective and knowledge from the earliest days of this amazing little car that brings us together. I will so miss his first person recollections and his "how dare you" honesty. A sad day indeed.
RIP John Larson
Sucks.
RIP Crusty, and peace to your family. :-(
So sorry to hear this. Kept hoping that the next thing I heard would be better news.
RIP Cap'n.
Tom
Terrible news.Met him at Phoenix club super cool guy.---Rip cap'n
RIP, the best thing is life is making impact onto others. You Sir did that, you will be missed.
I vote that his build thread be placed in a place of honor so we who knew him can reflect on his accomplishments, and the people who where less fortunate, can see what partially made him such a great person to learn from.
Admins, mind placing it as a classic, at least for a short term in honor. Kinda like lowering the flag in honor of the fallen.
Very sad! RIP John.
I never met the Cap'n personally, however a couple of years ago I had a question that I had sent via pm. John replied in an uncharacteristic way that showed how much he cared. I sent him two bottles of scotch for Christmas that year. He will be missed.
Dang...but I figured the next news on Krusty's condition would be bad news.
RIP Cap'n
RIP John...your advice was always appreciated.
I am saddened. I always regarded the Captain's posts as the last words on the subject. This weekend, I will do a valve adjustment his way, and in his honor.
Paul
This is really sad. I didn't know him but knew from his posts he was a real 914 authority.
Anyone who knew him, I'd love to find out more about his passion for the 914. Perhaps someone could write an obituary...?
Thx.
I always read the Captain's posts and would laugh at his direct style. He was a great contributor to our board and will be missed.
Rest in peace John Larson, Cap'n Krusty.
I have no words...
RIP Cap'n. We never met, but you're brutal honesty always made me laugh. You will be missed.
914World has some awesome people on here, but there will now always be a hole that will never be filled.
damn,
Sorry to hear this, I always read his posts. I used to love the back and forth between him and Bhole in the Rennlist days.
I thought of him the other day when I was messing with my Teflon braded brake hoses and using silicone on the 914. Those were fun days...John will be missed.
I was driving from Durango to Denver yesterday and the route took me through a little town called Santa Maria. I thought of John at that time. Very sad to read the news today.
Godspeed.
RIP John, You will be missed.
A great loss to our community.
I was out of town all day and miss this sad news.
I had hoped to meet him at the last WCR but heard rumors he was possibly in a battle. I met many of you. I'll always wonder what I missed not meeting John. Even more reason to try to make it to events and meet friends.
I hate that cancer. That and Colon cancer. Sneaky, deadly, took another one.
RIP
Damn! I hate cancer. I only knew him through this community. I wish I had met him in person. I know this -- when you saw a posting by him you took notice and appreciated his wisdom and experience.
He will always live on in his wisdom and knowledge he shared on this forum. RIP.
It feels like things are diminished. I know it's trite, but it's how it feels, something's now missing from the world.
RIP Capn.
It may be too soon to give much thought on this, but I do t think a Krusty forum (similar to Lapuwali) is out of the question...
aww man, that sucks.
As sad a piece of news as I could imagine about someone I didn't know personally.
I never got the chance to meet him, but like all of us, I gained much from his experience and wisdom and I have great respect for him.
God speed Krusty. Your family and friends are in my prayers.
We all honor "His Crustiness" with our own unique remembrances of his
pearls of wisdom. . . Knowing his advice is preserved on this site for some future 'new guy' to find and use
is what he would have wanted in the way of an epitaph.
RIP
I believe everyone here at World owes John. Period. Can we all step up and collect some funds to buy flowers and offset some of his loved ones financial burdens. If there is a existing fund established or paypal acc't please advise. TIA
Terrible loss for our community and his family.... God Speed Cap'n
Knew this was coming but it still is hard to hear. He will be sorely missed by all
Attached image(s)
RIP, John. You will be missed.
Really sorry to hear this.
John was very kind to me and am sure he is still restoring 914's in heaven, but there is only 6's
RIP
RIP John,
I had the opportunity to meet John one year at the Phoenix Club swap meet. He was wearing a Cap't Krusty name tag. Very nice guy to talk to and definitely not a crusty man in person.
RIP Capn
Sad news again... RIP Captain.
Everyone keep healthy.. make the effort and give your bodies the best chance to fight anything that may come along. The older you get the more conviction and resolve you will need to keep your bodies fit. Do it for your families.
Someone needs to post a picture of John in his hat, I don't think I've ever seen him at a swap meet or event without a hat!
My wife offered her condolences as well, she had met John and his wife about 10 years ago or longer.
Rest in peace Cap'n and many thanks for all your advice.
Such terrible news… shocked and saddened. I didn’t know John, but always felt privileged if The Cap’n commented on anything I posted, even if it wasn’t what I wanted to hear.
RIP
Very sad news.
very sorry to hear this. my wife and i had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife (who was busy with her knitting) at the parts haven swap meet a few years ago.
my deepest condolences to his family.
Sad news, RIP Capt'n. You were in my prayers and that will continue. Have those 914's waiting for the rest of us!
This is so sad.
RIP Cap'n
you will be missed.
sad news, my sympathies to his family.
I never met you in person Cap'n Krusty, but I will miss you just the same. Thanks for all of your advice on this forum over the years. RIP.
Sad to be sure.
A toast to the Cap'n. Thanks for all the knowledge you have dropped on everyone here.
Cap'n, you will be missed. May you always be where the fair wind blows.
Very sad to hear this. My condolences to his family.
I was fortunate enough to meet John in April of 2013. His posts here on the World, especially in the Garage, always impressed me and I wondered if I would ever get a chance to meet him in person.
I had a business trip to Santa Maria come on my calendar and I contacted John to see if he would like to meet up and talk shop for awhile. Fortunately, he agreed.
I didn't have a rental car on this trip so, after work one day, John kindly picked me up at my hotel. We had a great dinner and conversation at a place he liked, McLintock's, in Santa Maria, and he later dropped me off at my hotel.
He helped many, many people and will be greatly missed.
Fair winds John .... I will miss you and your "Krusty" attitude and floppy hat!
R.I.P John you'll be missed in the 914World.
Never met him, but he seemed like an alright guy who knew a thing or two or three. Hate to see him go. I enjoyed his frank style even when I didn't agree with him.
Godspeed.
R.I.P. John, keep an eye on us please.
RIP......
RIP cap'n.
Godspeed Capt'n! Truly a library has burned.
I'm sorry to hear this. He helped me out quite a few times in diagnosing fuse and engine problems. He was a great resource and an active contributor to our hobby. He will be missed.
RIP. I shall always remember you fondly every time I adjust my valves using your infamous method.
Damn that hurts and I never had the honor to meet him. My sympathies to his family. Their loss is certainly greater than ours but I hope they know and understand what a meaningful impact he had on so many people.
I will remain forever thankful for your advice John. Until we get the chance to meet, drive fast, and drive well.
RIP Capt'n
very sorry for our loss
Damn. RIP, Cap'n.
Since I have been a member here John has been a presence, a positive one in so many ways. Condolences to his family and all of you who knew him. I hope his family is aware of how important he was here.

Very sorry to hear this. Rust In Peace, John.
God's Speed Cap'n!
Salt of the Earth
1.(idiomatic) A most worthy person.
2.(idiomatic) A decent, dependable, unpretentious person.
Nuff said ....
Warren, I agree with everything you wrote. I read about his passing this morning, and was amazed how the news hung with me all day.
I never met the man, but based on the many references to his demeanor, I've met others like him. Gruff on the outside, but once the shell is cracked (if allowed) there's a true caring human just below.
I had posted a little over a year ago some OT questions about a car; John pm'd me and invited me to call to discuss it, on his dime. I got back to him, also via pm, that I would, but ended up buying the car, and felt the call would be unnecessary and a waste of his time. I regret not doing so, if for no other reason than to put a voice to the character.
What a perfect avatar.
I too, will do my best to perform a valve job this weekend, using his technique, as I've been wanting to for a little bit. Once done, I'll be sure to toast his name with a good single malt.
My condolences to his family, and also to his extended family, especially those here who were fortunate enough to know him, and the incredible wealth of knowledge he provided.
Rest in Peace, Your Krustiness.
I didn't get to meet him either, but I feel honored to know that he answered a few of my first (dumb) newbie questions very succinctly.
RIP to another wonderful character in the Porsche world
......*PEACE* be to Cap'n...God bless his family!
I'm sitting here at the airport and reading everyone's wonderful comments about the Cap'n. His method of delivery of telling you something was unique as it ever gets. So, I thought I would scroll back through some of Krusty's posts and it didn't take long to find this gem.
"Again, you're joining the ranks of those who call those things "copper" nuts. They're NOT copper, they're STEEL, with a copper plating. Clearing out the "pinch" makes them regular nuts with a hefty price tag.
The Cap'n"
I'm gonna miss that.
Cancer sucks
RIP
Thanks for all the help over the years Cap'n.
RIP
This news ruined my day.
RIP and God Bless.
RIP Cap'n.
You left us with a huge void.
So sorry to read about the Cap'n. Such a loss. He will live on in the archives to render his advice for years to come.
I only met John in person a few times but memories from the online world go WAY back and are all positive.
RIP.
I knew this was coming. I quess this is true for all of us.
I met John on four occasions. I had heard through one of the members here that he could rebuild 901 transmissions. I gave him a PM and asked if he could help, and of course he said he would.
We made the exchange in Pasadena, and it turns out we had more in common since I had grown up there and his parents had lived there too.
So after a few emails with the exchange and pictures, turns out the bearings in the trans were shot….brass cages were gone ect …ect. ..but gear cluster looked great.
He wanted it done right.
My goal was to learn something….I told him that…(no offense Doc)…but this guy knew more about Porsche and mechanics than anyone I had met, and probably ever will,(Maybe
Slits comes close). We just don’t live in the same time I grew up in. That is what has struck me about his passing.
The internet is information. John had knowledge. There is a difference.
Back in March of this year (I think), I knew he was coming down to the Phoenix Club for the annual swap meet. I saw him there and he looked healthy enough. He said he was almost done with it (the trans) and that I could pick it up on my way up there but that he was having some serious health problems. I knew what that meant just by the way he said it.
I went to his house, after the WCR, to pick up the trans with a couple of other folks that were kind enough to haul it back. I had so much crap stuffed into the frunk I just didn’t have room for it.
He hadn’t the strength to put the nosecone on the trans back on. I told him I could do it. He insisted on helping.
As I noticed the silicone on the shift fork flange I asked him why that was there?
His answer?
“Because someone else didn’t know what the fuck they were doing”.
Here is to you John. I had a few beers in my garage tonight (maybe more that a few) and wrote “Thanks John” on the top of the trans with my diamond engraver.
You shared so much with others.
God bless you and your family. I had the privilege of meeting them.
Damned shame, but he's left a great legacy behind.
Rest in peace Cap'n.
You will sorely be missed on this forum. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
Dave
Prayers for John's family at this difficult time. He was an amazing, stand up guy. Even though I'd only "met" him by phone, his character was ever present.
His wisdom, insight, and wry wit will be missed. There's lots of "how to" info on P-cars, but he had so much first hand experience, John could've wrote chapters on "how not to".
We are all destined toward the same fate, but John was the kind of guy that we all would've liked to have had much more time with.
His family suffers an immense loss, and we morn the loss of a friend, colleague, and invaluable resource; but from what little I know of John, I'm sure it is well with his soul.
Peace be with you Cap'n.
John was a guy that I loved to argue with.. and argue he did! But whenever he pushed his opinion on something you knew there was more than a grain of truth.. there was decades of truth and The need to help others.
Great character of a man who will be sorely missed..
There is a big hole in the 914 World that can not be filled.
Cap'n Krusty, "The Krusty One" reminds me of my fishing mentor in the Ten Thousand Islands,(Florida) his nickname was also Captain Crusty. He taught me how to tie all my fishing knots. He once asked me "who tied this Bimini Twist?" Like I did it wrong, I said I did...he replied you did it right, looks good.
People like the Cap'n are Old School and I wish we had more like him in today's world, mechanics with a CAN DO mentality that figure things out because that's what they had to do to get things fixed. We have all been in the presence of greatness and we are all better for what we have learned from men like John Larson.
I wrote a thread about how I put some Pilot Fog Lights on my 914 and explained how I attached them, he responded, "Those better be Eye Candy Only!"
Rest In Peace John Larson.......You may be gone but you will never be forgotten!
Thank you for your sage advice on everything!
Vysoc
I just cant believe it...... I hope he is driving a great road up there.
Rest in peace.
I will definitely miss the no bullshit responses and great information.
RIP.
Tom
I'm sorry to hear this, I always enjoyed his posts and comments. RIP
So sad to hear of Cap'n's passing. He led a full life, and his expertise will live forever here on 914 World. That's pretty special, I think. I was out and about with my 914 at swaps and races all over 2008-2010, and less so lately. John's passing reminds me how awesome it was to meet him and all the other faces behind the names here on 914 World (back then, 914 Club!).
Cheers to John, and to all the gifts he shared with this community
P.S. I'll second that request to find and post a pic of The Cap'n in his signature big 'ol swap meet hat. That's how I'll always remember him.
RIP
RIP sad news I always enjoyed reading his post, and appreciated his expertise.
RIP, Cap'n. I met you a couple of times at Parts Haven swaps in years past. To be honest, based on some of your posts here on 914Club/World, I was expecting a crotchety old fart -- like my recently departed grandfather who was also a consummate tinkerer/fixer and who also had a sharp tongue. But you were actually more like a kind and caring teacher in person. And you always wanted me to take more than I needed so you wouldn't have to haul it home. My car -- whenever it is finally done -- will be better thanks to your kindness and your wisdom. Thanks brother.
Sad loss, can't find his last post
RIP, John.
I remember when John first joined the Porschephiles mailing list. As I sized up the newbie, I quickly realized that John knew his stuff. When he posted, it was time to pay attention because I was going to learn something.
John's knowledge and hard on the outside/soft on the inside personna were a great asset to the World.
Wow I just met him, On the first leg of our 914 experience run. I'll try to put a small clip of the interview we did with him @ eric display booth. He came up to me and ask how I was doing from the heart attack I just had. And then he told me about his sickness
RIP, Cap'n
Wow, so sorry to hear this, going to miss you buddy!
Left town for a few days only to return to this unfortunate news. John, RIP my friend.
Andys
I only had a few exchanged posts with the Cap'n in my couple of years here and missed meeting him by one day out at Bonneville last year. In those exchanges and reading other posts you could tell the knowledge was there and in abundance- his delivery was impeccable and his attitude was never condescending.
You're missed greatly already our friend...
This was written a long time ago .....
'twas the end of an arduous day,
the garage doors closed quietly,
lights in their turn dimmed and went out,
wrenches cooled from the warmth of the hand.
tomorrow will not see the rising of the sun,
tomorrow will not hear the bustle of activity,
tomorrow and beyond the mechanic will rest peacefully,
tomorrow his horizon is eternity.
RIP JOHN. YOU DEFINETLY WILL BE MISSED.
Craig at CAMP
Thank you for being part of our 914 family.
You will be missed immensely.
Rest In Peace.
Rest in Peace, sad, didn't know him personally, but learned a lot from his posts and knowledge
Cap'n helped me diagnose d-jet problems early on...just because.
RIP Cap'n - your knowledge will be sorely missed on 914world.
Whoa... I don't even know what else to say having just seen this.
You could always find John at a swap meet. RIP my friend.
This site will never be the same. RIP Capt.
Thomas
I'll post this here too, a short video of the Krusty one:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=258906
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLrpM-a9xJg
We lost a good one.
RIP Cap'n...Our community needs to mourn for a bit...Then we will all find a way to smile, laugh and just be so grateful that we all had the opportunity to be one of your Porsche Brothers...praying for your family now...thanks for all your advice and passion!
R.I.P. my friend. You were one of the great ones.
R.I.P John you will be missed.
He rebuilt my transmission and went out of his way to pick it up from my house and briought it back after he rebuilt it. He was a great guy to talk to with a lot of knowledge. He played water polo in high school just as my kids did and he would talk about it with passion.
We have truly lost a icon.
That's a great video! Thanks for posting. He will be missed.
RIP John
You go away for a week and then you read this...
I never met him but always appreciated his valuable posts.
Thank you for sharing this video.
RIP Krusty.
I always felt like I had "arrived" when I'd create a thread and Cap'n would weigh in...
Paul
Godspeed dude , you are missed. He could always tell it like it is ,and would tell you what the solution was . Is there another that could come close to his shoes ???
Jack
Never met him in person but always enjoyed his contribution to the club.
RIP Captn!
Oldest son checking in.. Thank you all for the kind words about my dad. It was always very clear to me how much he loved what he did both online and in the shop. Very nice to see that all of the sometimes cranky calls about the computer/internet side of things went to very good use!
Attached is a pic of me and my dad on our trip to Colorado in January 2015. This one makes me think way back. I still remember a most memorable road trip when I was just a CHP lookout yelling "faster daddy faster!" from the back seat of a 924 Turbo (upgraded!). Radar was a new thing back then I guess, but the Motorola is what really stopped us in the end(roadblock).
P.S. - Thank you Utah for the ticket I got the day that this picture was taken! I never saw the sign, and I won't soon forget the views!
Still having a hard time with this. Goodby John, it was a pleasure knowing you.
Hi Will! Glad you posted here. Thanks for the pic. I'm also still trying to come to grips with his passing.
I lost my Dad (who is buried just off 101 in AG) back in 1997, but he lives on through me. The great ones stay with us. God willing, I'll be an old man someday missing his Dad.
Just got home from vacation and saw this. Very sad! I spent the time to read through every page. It takes a special person to evoke such emotion a bunch of guys. I would only hope to be so lucky. Living in So.Cal. I was lucky enough to meet John on several occations. He's a great guy and will be missed...
RIP Cap'n...

I just found out. I feel Terible. John was on the inside a very considerate friend that always wanted to help. RIP John. And so it goes. West Coast Garage was the coolest place to be. He didn't mind me dropping by to just hang out, no matter how busy he was.
I am saddened to just learn of John's passing. 3 years ago he basically walked me through a timing belt replacement on my 951. I appreciated his patience and the car ran flawlessly and still is to this day. You will never be forgotten
Just sayin' this place ain't the same w/o the likes of Crusty around here. Late to this info but feeling the loss... always liked reading his posts. When he 'spoke' on these forums I always listened. Thanks to Crusty for sharing so much knowledge with us.
