914World.com _ 914World Garage _ weird koni insert?

just took a set of 911 koni struts apart this afternoon
(removing the threaded cap that holds the damper to the strut is fun )

anyway, on the first strut I opened up, there was a regular insert, like I expected
#2 was a bit of a surprise...

is it just missing its outer sheath/housing????

Looks OE to me, though the spring is unusual. Earlier cars used the tube as the housing, and the replacement units were the sealed inserts. The Cap'n

This could have been a picture of so many funny things, and you blow it with real inserts.
