914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Engine Number Question

Posted by: BeatNavy Aug 3 2015, 03:45 PM

Stupid question but is the engine code below missing a digit? I thought TIV engine numbers (at least on 914's) had 7 digits following the "EA" code. Is that "dimple" at the end a zero, or is this not a 914 Type IV? I've searched for Bus Engine codes, but can't the equivalent of the http://www.p914.com/p914_vin.htm. Or am I taking the seven digit thing too literally off the P914 site? This came out of a '72, but I don't know if it was the original engine.

It's correct. It is a '72 1.7L. You'll need the certificate of authenticity to determine if it is the original engine to the car.

Ok, thanks fellas. So I took the 7 digit thing too literally. Just wanted to make sure as I didn't want to make any assumptions.

The stamp at the end of the numbers is a tiny VW logo.
