914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1.7 Running Issues

Posted by: lennyhope Aug 13 2015, 09:07 AM

My 1.7 injection was running great and then wasn't. Starts first thing from cold. Idle sometimes steady as a rock and then drops off and dies. Then it is difficult to start again unless I wait at least half an hour or so. Ideas???.

Yes.

Check the MPS with a vacuum leak down test first.

Diaphragm could have cracked.

Then check back.

Also check vacuum hoses for cracks or loose connections.

The thing is it runs and idles fine until you blip the throttle and it just splutters to a stop and then wont start again for a while.

Based on the limited info you provided, I can only suggest keeping the CHT in your lineup of "usual suspects" (if you haven't already eliminated that as a possibility). When it fails, or is failing, or when the wiring harness develops breaks (even if you can't see them), the car may start when cold then die quickly thereafter.

If you haven't already, spend some time here:
