914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Is sepia Brown a original 914 color ?

I recently aquired a 72 914 off of ebay. The owner claimed Sepia brown was the original color, I have not seen another 914 in this color. I have seen a few 912's and 911's in this color and I do know it is a porsche color. Any help would be great.

No, not an original color.
Your Karmann badge should show paint code 98.
Let me know your VIN and the chassis number off of the Karmann badge.

Or it could be interpreted as the original color was repainted TO Sepia Brown.....

The 'No Title' part would concern me more than the color if this car is to be driven at some point, it can be anywhere from tough to impossible to register untitled cars.

I know of two that were done in Sepia Brown that live(d) in the Sacramento area. They were special-ordered with that color. I believe that one of those cars is still owned by the original owner to this day...

Doesn't look bad, for $1200 seems like a decent 914 to me. Nice score! Show us some better (bigger) pictures when you get it.

I picked the car up last sunday and drove it almost 100 miles. It had a pretty good leak from the left valve cover that left a nice smoke trail. The color code is 98, the Karmann number above that on the door is 1219532 and the vin is 4722908260.

The no title scared me away at first, I called the owner and he had the original california tag, so I am able to get a title. There was one tiny rust spot underneath on a seam, That is a wonderful thing for a car this old over here. If anyone has a set of interior speaker panels , crackless dash or or a set of bumper rubbers that they are looking to sell please let me know. For the paint it is not great, if you look closely you can find the flaws.

I started a major brake overall today. I plan on using New drilled rotors, front and rear, stainless lines and bmw 320i calipers up front. I have major plans for it after this summer depending on how deep my pockets go. Any info on the color or car would be great.

It may not be that car's original color, but Sepia Brown was indeed a 914 color. http://members.rennlist.com/gman/porsche/74_2.0/ That car IS sold BTW. And it was factory Sepia Brown, through and through.

Sepia Brown was a 911 color option. My 1975 Carrera was painted Sepia Brown at the factory.

Usually the first place I look to see if it's an original color car is the VIN sticker in the drivers door jamb. The vin number is punched out and you can see the original paint in the holes. Might use a toothbrush to clean out the holes if they have dirt in them (likely).
