Hello,
I have a '74 signal orange car with brown interior. The PO cut the doors for speakers and I have been searching for a source for the brown basket weave vinyl so I can recover the panels. The COA states the color is brown.
Has anyone found a source?
Thanks,
Jack

914rubber is a great supporter of the 914 community. Think they carry all colors of that vinyl.

If you just need the vinyl itself and don't want the new panels as well just PM Mikey914 on this forum or call/e-mail (contact info is on the 914rubber site). The PM option is probably best. I got some of the later style for my car and it's a spot-on match.
The hard thing may be finding the Basketweave in Brown.
Try the above sources + Autos International in Vista/Fallbrook CA & World Upholstery in Ventura/Ojay CA & that other one advertising in the Panorama etc. magazines in the PNW.
I could not find the Beige basketweave for mine anywhere, although some of the above still have the smooth, but for a perfect match I went to Lakewell.com in Euro-land. You may have to email them to ask if they have both smooth & basketweave.
Note that any of the new fabrics won't be a match for either a 35-40 year old factory vinyl, nor for NOS fabrics & older interior restos, so you may be well served for a good matching interior, to get either an entire interior reupholstery kit or enough roll stock to do everything - even if you don't do it all right now. If you wait a few months or year+, then they may have none left or a differing dye lot.
Good Luck!
Tom

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Autos Int., and World.
I'm a regular customer of 914 Rubber and Marrk would be my first choice because of his support and the outstanding service I've received from him. He did a set of carpets for me that far exceeded my expectations.
I checked with him and all he had at the time was the smooth brown for the bolsters. It's a dead match, which is a dead match.
I'll check SMS; thanks George.
I'll also check Lakewell again as it's been a few months.
Anyone else?
Thanks guys.
I was at bughaus last week to pick up an ignition switch and saw a sample book of different colors and patterns for vinyls, and carpets for bugs and buses sitting on the counter. They looked identical to the square weave, and basket weave vinyls on our cars. Call Eric on Tuesday and he might be able to hook you up. They closed on Monday.
I have just the vinyl kitted up for the door panels for you to install. Or full seat kits. The vinyl also has the matching bolster material.solves that problem too.
The VW fabrics are similar and in many cases seem to be identical. Probably the biggest classic bug supplier is TMI, at http://www.tmiproducts.com And as a bonus you can ask online and they'll send you a free sample swatch to see if there's a match.
Here's a brown basketweave (for example):
And tan squareweave:
The whole "swatches" page (dozens and dozens): http://www.tmiproducts.com/swatches.html
Don't be too put off by the colors, computer screens don't give a good representation so you need a sample. What's nice about TMI (my opinion) is that their prices tend to be a fraction of the cost of the "original" fabrics from some other suppliers. If you have a budget and concours correctness isn't a priority then they're a nice option. Worth a free swatch and a quotation to find out, anyway.
Is this the brown you are looking for? It is called Cinnamon and is nowhere to be found.

Sample going out Monday.

Currently have door kits and seat center and bases made up. I can do back / bolsters in a week or so.

Thanks for the photos Mark.
The pattern I need is what I'm referring to as "basket weave" but I may be incorrect in calling it that. Another poster showed a sample in cinnamon that is the basket weave pattern I have in my car. The photos you posted are examples of what I thought was "brick".
Can someone please set me straight on this?
Thanks,
Jack
Mark's pictures from 914 Rubber is the square weave.
I refer to the material I posted at "late" basket weave, as it is an over and under pattern, like basket weave. The other is "early" brickmold, as it looks like stacked bricks on the dash. The orientation for seats stacked the wrong way.
Mark,
Is what you're describing as "early brick mold" available in brown?
