Hoping to start my 71 914-6 that has been dormant since 1984. I purchased it disassembled and am very close. However, I do NOT want to fry the ingition box.
I have one ground connected to the box but there is another terminal that is not currently being used. I can not find a blue/black wire on my diagrams that are in the engine bay. See photo.. any hints? The photo shows the firewall in the background and the battery tray is in the right lower corner.

I'd have to look at the diagrams when I get home, but those look like the wire
that goes to the distributor points and the ground that connects to the chain box.

I concur !
The points wire is the only female in the area.
2 coil leads (small - and +) and 2 grounds (6mm,8mm) are all eyelets

most porsches have multiple ground wires
what color is the ring-end wire underneath that insulating sheath - and where are these wires - can't tell from your pic wher/what we are looking
put an ohmmeter on the wires & find where the other end is;
also put a voltmmeter on 'em & see if you have juice on 'em, ign-on, ign-off

I concur !
The points wire is the only female in the area.
2 coil leads (small - and +) and 2 grounds (6mm,8mm) are all eyelets
I also have a female connector to connect that is green/black. If that helps...

My diagram shows the points connection to be black. 
On the engine harness, there is not a lot of room for things to go to
unexpected places. Let's turn this around; is there already something
connected to the points?

The green black wire is oil temp.
It is female. The wire attaches across the back of the connector kinda like a flag.
The temp sender is on the drivers side of the crankcase.

The big boot on your battery tray is for the battery cable at the starter

Thanks! I was wondering about that boot..
Now, if I can figure out if both of my CD Box grounds are supposed to be used and if not, where that blue/black female goes...I wish the car were here, but I will be able to look again tomorrow...

Chainbox ground????
Aha........ I have an extra unattached ground and that would explain it. 
So where does the ground attach to the chainbox?? Thanks
