I was looking around on Ebay when I found a VDO seller. He had lots of new VDO 52mm gauges with the same style back as the 914 console gauges. I thought I would buy one to experiment with. So, the gauge showed up today and I went at it to remove ring and glass. I flipped it over and undid the nut and dropped the gauge out. Well that's when I knew it wasn't going to work looking a the inside of gauge. First up the new gauge is about 10mm taller and the back plate holes are larger. Long story short, 1 1/2 hours later I chalked it up to good information that I could pass along.
