914World.com _ 914World Garage _ repair hole in engine tin?

Posted by: cuddyk Oct 14 2015, 11:51 PM

Hey guys,

Looks like the PO cut a hole the size of a nickel on the top of the passenger side tin, right above the oil cooler. I have no idea why.

I plugged it up with some butyl putty, but would like to do a more permanent repair as part of my winter work. Any suggestions? Are the tins even weld-able?

Thanks!

They are steel, so yes. You could also braze or solder a patch, which I have done.

Thanks. I noticed that even just plugging that hole lowered my oil temps. Kinda amazing how small changes in the airflow have a big effect.
