914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Front End Alignment

Posted by: jacquot Nov 30 2015, 04:03 PM

I am replacing some front suspension bits in my '71 and would like to get the thing aligned.
I would appreciate any suggestions regarding a reliable shop in the OC, LA area. Thanks, Jacquot

I highly recommend getting a full 4 wheel alignment!

In which case you will need a shop that has done 914s before. Any normal shop won't know how to align the rear of a 914.

Don't know any shops in slow-cal though ...

Hi sir Jacquot, Lawrence had his 73 aligned early this year after installing his complete suspension upgrade and I'm sure he will chime here later.

Thanks. Although I didn't make that clear, I intend to do all four. Jacquot

Glenn's in Costa Mesa : +1 (949) 631-2888

On Canyon just west of Brookhurst. Take Victoria going east
From Brookhurst, right on Canyon

They have been the go-to alignment shop for 914s go a long time.

I know not SOCAL. However, highly recommend Custom Alignment in Mountain View (Bay Area). They rebuild my suspension and were awesome!!

I've used Hergesheimer in lake forest several times for my 4 wheel alignments.

Really? He told me they wont help me in any way shape or form with my car.

call Alex at Precision Tech Motor Sport, he's at 13368 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066 - near Marina Del Rey
(310) 822-4566

He's a 914 guy and has a 4 wheel alignment set up.

Could check with TruSpeed in Costa Mesa. I have not used them myself but they do a lot of work on Porsches and I am sure they are capable.

They did my alignments in the past. They have turned into a Boxster BSR race shop.

I used Holley's in San Clemente, but that's pretty far south.

I agree with using Glenn's Alignment.

Truspeed as it was previously known has shut down. The former sales manager has taken over the name and is building it back to focus on air cooled only sales.

I took my 930 there a few times, once for an alignment, again for regular maintenance. I wasn't particularly happy with the results of their work.

Good timing as the guy I used went to work for a Ford Dealership and I don't think they want any 914's on their lot. shades.gif

The current suggested shops are pretty good.
But most will not liking have any rear shims available to really set up your alingment properly.
I tend to think True Speed being in that category too. Im sure they are excellent in the 911, 993 ,996 on up cars...but 914 that will some cases require rear shims???
My vote is for Alex at Precision as he 1) has a 914 2) a 4 wheels alingment.

One needs a 4 wheels alingment. .
Example, I had an alingment done years ago on my Honda Civic. Bear Alingment used string of sort to align the front.
Needless to say, my Honda was going down the street sideways. Lesson learned, my thoughts - no 4 wheels alingment on premises. ..Im not stopping for alingment.

Just my .02. Others might have different results and or criteria.
