914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Opportunity to make brand new 914's

The biggest change: Replica vehicles will not have to meet modern crash-safety standards, which require technology like traction control and passenger-sensing air bags, along with tens of millions of dollars in engineering expense. The vehicles will have to meet federal emissions rules, and component-level safety rules, but not fuel economy mandates or state-level emissions. And their bodies will need to be licensed from models at least 25 years old.

In other words, you can now assemble a brand new 914 chassis and sell it to be driven legally on the street. The only rub is that you have to meet current FEDERAL emissions standards.

Great for small car makers, but if you read all of it,
it says this..

The law directs federal regulators to set up rules for companies that allow each to sell up to
325 replica vehicles a year (those companies can’t build more than 5,000 vehicles worldwide,
so Dodge won’t be able to just roll out new/old Barracudas.)

The cost to manufacture would be pretty high for a small car company.

Definitely agree that cost is a huge problem. Perhaps our 914 friends up north (Restoration Design) who have some of the tooling could get in on this?

BTW, I'm mostly just daydreaming but imagine a 914 made from galvanized steel with less chance for rust? drooley.gif

Or aluminum?

British Heritage is the source for MGBs. You can build a brand new MGB using parts from them and Moss Motors.

How about building a super 3d printer and making a carbon tub?
