Maybe didn't notice the first scene in the video where she was sitting in her 356.

looks like the paint has changed over the years...
maybe a mirror added...and removed...
or this could be one of five remaining of the original car...which happens
from time to time as cars become more dear.

Same paint, the picture was flipped. she is sitting on the passenger side fender.

George Harrison had a 911 for a spell... maybe longer than a spell, but no crazy paint-job.

That car is as much an abomination to the 356 as her songs were to music.

I worked with a guy yeas ago who painted up a replica of the Joplin 356. Came out pretty nice (Talented artest).

He also has a Bumble Bee 914 !

Her car went to shambles,. It was found and redone. The car AFAIK, is the real one, the paint is a damn close approximation, but not at all the original job. It was on tour a couple years ago at several museum across the U.S.

I sure am glad you're not in charge of anything. Janis and Big Brother were my first shows at Winterland and the Fillmore, and I wouldn't trade that for anything.

My cousin played bass in a L.A. garage band "The Shades of Sound "...was the warm-up group for Janis/ Big Brother + the Holding Co.
It was in Hollywood at Dave Hull's Hullabaloo , today the Nickelodeon Theatre. Janis was as wild as she looks and could belt out those songs !¡!

Posted by: hndyhrr Dec 10 2015, 08:25 PM

Saw her a few times myself, wild yes, belt out them song, oh hell yes

oh those were the days

I grew up in Marin Co. and made numerous trips to Winterland and the Fillmore. One lucky time I met her backstage at a small club in San Anselmo talked with her for about a half hour before they went on. I even got her autograph. It was some crazy times back then being a teenager.

A microphone in one hand and Southern Comfort in the other. "Take another little piece of my heart now". Too bad she was more interested in getting high than living high. sad.gif

$1.79 million + fees. I'd say the world generally thinks favorably on Janis Joplin. Now if someone could find Carl Sagan's 914... biggrin.gif

Posted by: rhodyguy Dec 11 2015, 10:27 AM

Wouldn't be surprised if Paul Allen bought it. Given his love and acquisitions of things related to rock and roll. I wonder if it will show up at the EMP? Chump change for him. Obvisously not the original paint job. Driver's side mural is wrong.

agree.gif Too many of the greats and/or would-have-beens have succumbed to the dark side. Tempting for some but ultimately undoes some great talents. Survivors are rare and sometimes under appreciated until they're gone. Others have recovered only to have life taken away (Stevie). Some, their bodies just give out after years of struggle (recently, Scott).
Here's to livin' high and enjoying what we've got while we have it... aktion035.gif

If not for the trail blazed by Janis and others of her era Pink would be waitressing at IHOP.
