914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Rear shock absorber 914/4 or /6

Posted by: IAA1963 Jan 15 2016, 01:21 PM

Hello,

The parts cataloge is showing two different part numbers for the rear shock absorbers - one for the /6 and the other one for the /4.
Can someone tell me if this new part number PCG33305150 is for the /4 or /6 rear shock absorbers?

Thanks,
Mark

I don't know if there is a difference.
The big difference is the brand and the quality differences.

KYB are called "Kill Your Backs" for good reason, they are cheap because they are junk, way too hard in a bad way.
Boge (Sachs) are ok if you are on a budget and performance is not a big deal.

Bilstein or Koni are the favored brands. Quality, rebuildable and they have adjustable spring perches are just some of the top reasons.

Note the rear springs also come into play in the handling department.

Thank you.

KYB are not an option anyway. I am restoring an original /6 and want to have it as it left the factory in 1970. According to the partsbook this would be Boge, I guess.

Mark...
Yes the standard factory delivered shock would have been the Boge.
Koni and Bilstein were available as an option in the Sports Purposes packages.
Your 914-6 may have been delivered with any of these and the only way to know would be to have a cardex build sheet.
Good luck with your restoration!
Please show us some picture of your progress.
Regards....John

Shocks and struts are a simple bolt on and most CW judges will give them a pass.
Most likely a replacement Boge struts/shock from today is not OE correct.
