We will publish the fun rally route prior to the event, including various stops (with projected times) so that late-comers can join the rally throughout the afternoon. While everyone loves to see 914s, all cars are welcome. Even if you aren't bringing a 914 (or Porsche), you are more than welcome to participate.

Fun Rally will end at about 6 pm at
Underdogs Sports Bar and Grill

3100 Paxton Street

We will also do our own voting and awards (given out at the Saturday night dinner) for cars in the concours.

We will also be doing our own 914 judging at the Saturday concours, so please make sure and vote. If you are bringing a 914 Saturday make sure to get a windshield card when you arrive. Awards to be given out at the Saturday dinner.

Count me in !

Posted by: dlee6204 Jan 21 2016, 06:40 AM

Looks like I'll be coming this year for my first time. I'll be bringing my father too. We'll be down for Friday and Saturday funtivities.

Posted by: BeatNavy Jan 21 2016, 08:56 AM

Alright, I booked. Only way I'm going to finally get myself to Hershey is to just go ahead and book the room early and make the rest of my life work around it this year.

Edit: So I'll plan on being at both the rally and dinner. Not sure yet if it's just me or me and my wife.

Posted by: stevegm Jan 23 2016, 04:07 PM

It looks like this is going to turn out to be a nice size group of 914s. I can't wait. It would be great if you can let us know if your planning to come to the Fun Rally drive Friday, to the dinner Saturday night (how many?), And if you are planning to bring your 914 to the People's Choice concours at the swap meet.

I don't think I'm selling anything, but I'll gladly chip-in for a space so we have a central place to hang out.

Fourteener Motoring will have a large space. And we are going to distribute our own car show voting stuff. Plus Mark's company will have a big space I think. So we will have a place to hang out. piratenanner.gif

Just went to make a reservation at the Knights Inn....$99.00 a night + tax for this place?? Who do they think they are, 914 parts sellers? Oh wait, I see it includes breakfast. Is that the stale Cheerios that are in those grimey dispersers by the front desk?

They should be giving you the group rate (see first post in thread). Nick is the manager/owner. You might want to ask for him. He is who I dealt with in setting it up.

Posted by: Big Len Feb 22 2016, 06:43 AM

Thanks Steve. I guess it would be helpful that I read the ENTIRE thread . Still, I don't remember a group buy the previous years. If I recall, I just booked online to get that $69.00 rate, but good job in getting the block of rooms.

Please add Linda to the dinner list.

Also, I see the PCA has not yet posted the show registration form. Guessing that should be up soon?

I hope they post the info soon. But, IIRC, the Saturday show is day-of-event registration only. So, we just register for that Saturday.

If your just coming to the swap, you just show up at the gate and pay your entry fee. If your staying at the hotel, there's a group rate. Read the thread for the list of events. It's mostly a show and pay as you go. It's all pretty informal. You can't really go wrong if you show up. Glad you can join the fun.

I will add you to the list. The hotel info is in the first post. They don't have a whole lot of rooms. So you might want to reserve one soon. Do you want a space at the swap meet to sell stuff? mepstein is handling those reservations. I will post some more info on the drive, dinner Saturday night, t-shirts, etc. next week. With 7 weeks to go we are starting to get things together. piratenanner.gif

so put me down for the dinner

Looking forward to meeting other teener owners and checking out the swap meet / show.

Since the GF won't lend me her C300 to drive, I'll be bringing the truck, so that pretty much puts me out of the rally drive. I'm sure no one would want to be seeing this their rear view.

On the plus side I can carry lots of parts. laugh.gif

Location?

What is the registration fee for?
Thought we just paid our own way for dinner typically?

We may make dinner Friday, Abel works half a day and it's over 6 hours to get there....and we are always late.

We will enter the show for sure.

The fee is just if your coming to the dinner Saturday evening. The group is too large to crash a restaurant. Last year we had 60 people in a restruant that could only fit 50 or so.

This year we lined up a large room and buffet-style dinner. It's an all inclusive fee - dinner, drinks, etc. plus it will be quiter so we can do awards, and have some speakers.

It is 5:00 - 8:00 pm, Saturday evening.

I spoke with Steve Limbert today and we are going to do a tour of Air-Cooled Racing's shops, and lunch - hot dogs, beans, etc. - during the Friday Rally. The plan is to be at his shop at about 2:30 pm.

Steve is also going to be one of the guests at the Saturday dinner. His 914 racing stories are always great to hear. It should be fun.

Friday dinner?
Where is that?

And I don't do PayPal, so will cash work smile.gif

Friday - we are doing a bar-b-que lunch at about 2:30 at Air-Cooled Racing's Shops, along the route of the rally (Steve and I are providing the food). Then the rally will end at Underdogs (rebuilt after their fire last year). The traditional buy your own wings deal.

Maybe mail a check? I'll PM you. But do register online though. So we can have head counts.

I'll be there with both sons (rental car only). We've booked ourselves for a few other activities that weekend, but we will stop to say hello to all and see the 914's. This should be the largest group of 914's in one place in a long time. See you all on Saturday.

The activities for the Saturday evening dinner are coming together well. So far we have Steve Limbert speaking, some 914 games, some also Challengers are going to talk about their builds, and we will have a presentation about other upcoming events. Plus the awards from Friday and Saturday events. Should be fun.

I'll be there Friday, for the rally and Friday meal, and for the swap meet, gotta get going Saturday afternoon. I may have another P-car guy along.

I need to sell some parts at the swap meet to help fund my 914/6 GT creation.

Does anyone want to share a space at the meet. I have a few items to sell, but not a huge pile.

Thanks to all who have worked to organize the Invasion.....

see you there,

If you have a few items to sell but not a lot you can usually get away with setting them down in one of our spots and buying us some fries or a coke. smile.gif

The spots are not big ( the size of a one car parking space) so please be reasonable.

Yes. I have spoken with PCA and they said they would park us together. In addition, we are planning to meet at a local donut shop Saturday morning and caravan together to the swap meet. When we go in, they will steer us to the concours, and we will park together there (by all going together it will further ensure that we can we park together). Registration for the concours is day-of-event only. So we can register when we get there.

We are also going to do our own show voting for the 914 group only, and have awards Saturday night at the dinner.

Same issue we have had for years with them and this event. They totally don't care that we use this as a Porsche get together, and pool our spaces so that we can be together. Literally. The guy in charge of selling spaces laid it out very plainly that he did not care, and that "his" event was not for "your car club."

Only way around it with their rules is to buy the tickets in small batches. If you buy them on one batch, you only get a few parking tickets.

There was a rumor that some guy got mad about this a few years ago, and spent his own money to have a bunch of passes/stickers printed and then handed them out for free to anyone that wanted them. wacko.gif

Some calls and emails and PCA sent me the correct amount of passes. They will go out in the mail this week to all the people who bought spaces.

What's a WAZE group? I'm going to ask Admin to set up a photo thread. Is that what you mean?

Posted by: Big Len Apr 5 2016, 07:40 PM

No Steve. It's a navigation app that not only gives real time traffic and navigation aids, but logging in as a group, it literally shows where everyone is on a map that is headed for a destination. So let's say you're waiting at the museum for eveyone to arrive, you'd be able to see where they are. It can be used for the rally, showing if someone has stopped or fallen behind. And it also gives you real time traffic info sort of like an old time CB radio. Construction delays, disabled car locations, police radar traps, etc.

Right now we have 16 cars registered or the drive Friday. The weather forecast looks great. It should be fun.

Posted by: saigon71 Apr 12 2016, 03:27 PM

Here is the route info for the Friday rally:

We’ll depart the AACA museum at 1:15 sharp. From here, we’ll hit the highway south, before turning off and taking the scenic route on our way to Aircooled Racing.

Aircooled Racing will provide us with hot dogs, beans and soft drinks and a tour of the facility. We’ll get there around 2:30.

Around 4:30, we'll depart Aircooled Racing for some “spirited” driving on some back roads of South Central PA. After that, we’ll head to Underdogs in the city to meet the rest of the 914world members for wings & beer at 6.

We’ll do our best to stay together, but things (and traffic) happen. If you get lost from the pack, simply set your GPS to the next stop and we’ll regroup.

Here are the planned stops and their addresses:

Stop 1: Roof Park – 599 Lewisberry Rd., New Cumberland, PA
Stop 2: Aircooled Racing – 1560 Old Mountain Rd., Wellsville, PA
Stop 3: Antiques at the Turkeyfoot – 1014 York Rd., Dillsburg, PA. This is an old gas station converted to an antique shop on the corner of Williams Grove Road and Rt. 74. There is an “Antiques” banner covering the old gas station sign.
Stop 4: Underdogs Sports Bar & Grill – 3100 Paxton St., Harrisburg, PA. Parking is dicey here. I stopped in today. They told me if you can’t find a regular spot, try parking in the residential area behind the restaurant.

Catch you Friday – it’s gonna be a great weekend!

Here is the route:

Scotty - I think it's in the first post. Plan is for the rally to end at Underdogs around 6 pm. I don't know if resos have been made, but Bob (or someone) definitely talked to them, as they were told to park in the residential area if all the other parking is full.

Gates open at 7:30, and people tend to want to get there early so as not to miss deals. So we'll need to leave Dunkin donuts at about 7:15.

Posted by: struckn Apr 13 2016, 06:41 PM

Are we still all supposed to enter the Concourse Saturday. If so why 7AM?
I'll be coming up later and plan to enter the Concourse around 9am if that's were you guys are going to be. Let me know Friday, but we should have this figured out so the others not spending the night in Hershey, and showing up on Saturday know in advance what to do.

You can join the People Choice Concours up to 10 a.m. If you want to caravan in, then you must be at DD at 7:15

I'm with you. I may not get my butt up that early.

Posted by: MMW Apr 13 2016, 07:15 PM

As Len said the "concours" is open up until 10am. Each class gets it's own row so if you arrive later than others you will still be together.

I hope all you 914 guys enter the peoples choice. Don't forget to vote & even if you don't enter your car you can still vote.

Agree, primary focus for us on Saturday is to get there early and scope out the vendor's goods. But we'll need breakfast, Dunkin is close by, and time works.

So see everyone for the drive, dinner, Knights Inn parking lot party, then breakfast and caravan - going to be great weekend. Thanks to Steve, Bob, and all the others who helped plan these events! beerchug.gif

Due to a surprise, I am not gonna make it this year.
Hopefully see you guys next year

Not positive but it looks like we are leaving about 3pm Friday. Tim has to work until then. If things change which they might I'll probably leave Friday morning. I see you are leaving about 9am. I'll figure it out by tomorrow night. Just started my car yesterday for the first time this year. Haven't even got it on the ground yet.

We have windshield cards for each 914 in the People's Choice Show, as well as voting cards for everyone to vote. We will have them in the 914world section of booths Saturday morning. Make sure you come by and get your your car card and/or voting card.

Posted by: MMW Apr 14 2016, 04:06 AM

Steve -- Just to clarify, there will be two voting sheets. The "official" cpr/pca one & the 914world one?

As I understand it the voting & windshield cards you have are only for 914world peeps.

You will get a separate "official" window card & voting sheet when you register with cpr/pca who runs the show at Hershey. Non registered people can get a voting sheet at the registration trailer for the show.

Yes. We are just going to do our own voting, in addition to the voting PCA does. We will give out awards at the dinner.

Looks like I'll be showing my 73 914 2.0 Phoenix Red. Easy to spot since it has MD PCA plates PC0914.

Sounds cool. Can you register so we can have a voting card ready for your car. Here is th link to register - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NIDVOWt-g64Mwm9h6MNwGWrrzEor0ebcGjzff32CRHk/viewform?c=0&w=1&usp=send_form

I should have no problem spotting that color since it is the same as mine. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get mine back together in time for Hershey so I will be in the other mid-engine Porsche.

The peoples choice concours says they will have an award for the car from furthest distance. They should multiply the distance times the age of the car to weed out the
weenies who bought a car last week in like Seattle.

Steve, I wasn't sure if Linda was going until this morning. We're both going to Saturday's dinner so should I send $ through PayPal or give you the cash when I see you?

I'm glad to hear she is coming. I will just get it from you when I see you.

Has anyone tried the image uploader thread? The picture I emailed isn't showing up.

Steve,

I will be there on Saturday, minus my 914. Can I make a suggestion? Have all entrants to the show put their 914 World user name on the placards so we can put a face with user name, and maybe even get a chance to meet all those that contribute so much to this forum.

Brad and I will miss the drive tomorrow, heading to Jersey to get some more parts. Will meet up with you guys at Underdogs if I can find a place to park the truck and trailer over there.

Made it to Knights Inn. Stopped at Funks for a beer or three. See you guys tomorrow.

Posted by: Manny Alban Apr 15 2016, 08:51 AM

I'm driving up with my region (40 Porsches) so I won't arrive until 9AM. Hopefully its not too late to enter the Concours.

Posted by: crash914 Apr 15 2016, 02:40 PM

Yea, won't make it. Thought it was next weekend. Stuck in l.a.

Posted by: MMW Apr 16 2016, 06:04 PM

Just rolled in to home. What an awesome 2 days all around. Started for me at the rally, lunch at air-cooled, more rally, half of us losing the lead group but meeting back up at Underdogs for dinner & then the famous (or infamous?) Knights inn Friday night gathering, Saturday to the swap & show, back to Knights inn for more parking lot hanging, then I headed home.

I'm sorry I had to miss the awards dinner on Saturday night but I'm sure the food will be tasty, the drinks will flow & the group will have a blast. Thank you all for letting me hang with this most excellent group! 914 people are the best Porsche people. I thoroughly enjoy this event every year.

Posted by: somd914 Apr 17 2016, 07:44 AM

Despite running on 3 cylinders (at idle, at least seems to run fine once off the idle circuit) we made it home Saturday evening, 180 miles sans issues.

Thanks to Mic, Brad, and others who helped out for a late night jet cleaning party at the "Inn".

This was our second year to participate in the Friday activities, and this year with both of my sons (who stole the teener for the drive leaving me with the other flat four, Suby style...). Had a great time, thanks to all who helped put the weekend together!

Best thing I can say about the Weekend (Friday and Saturday) is it was a perfect outing. The best people I know are Car People, always a good crowd to hang with. And there's someting about being a 914 person that is special like our cars.

I live about 46 miles from Hershey so made daily trips to and from. Saturday I left home in Shrewsbury around 8:30 and hoped on I83 and was immediatedly escorted buy around 20 Porsches coming up from Maryland! We ran together in heavy traffic until I got off I83 to cross the river via Rt 30in York and hit the back county roads. Rt 462 out of Columbia follows the river north, then Rt 743 goes north east directly into Hersey. Got to the Concorse at 9:20. Had the 914 top on going up and returned same waywith top off. Very light traffic both ways.

I have a couple pictures. These are the two I like the most. There was this Japaneese Family, Mother Father and Daughter along with two well dressed American men, one being an interpritor as the family didn't speak English. The Daughter was standing in front of my car posing for pictures. When they started to leave I went over and said don't leave untill you get a picture of her sitting in the car. Wish I know who they were? I do this alot when the Kids who want Dad to take a picture of them with the 914. The 914's are Kid Magnets.

The other picture is of the 914 that PCA donated to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. This is a two year College in Lancaster Pa that is under a grant to help Students who can't afford a lot of money towards an education that will get them a job after Graduaation. 90% of Stevens Grads are hired immediately after graduation. The cost per year is $7,104. The Automotive Tech Students (6 of them) got this 914 out of Air Cooled Technoligies Barn (the Barn we saw Friday) and did a total restoration. I was Auctioned off at the Swap Meet with a Reserve of only $ 6,000 to cover expensives for the Build.
The Last Bid I saw for the 914 was $ 6,000, a Deal of a life Time for somebody. Hope they got more. The car, IMO, was worth at least $8K to $12K.

Linda and I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Bob and Steve for pretty much hosting a terrific event for World members. The rally, the show, ( the weather....wait, you can't take credit there) all the food, and best of all, the turn out, would not have been nearly as successful as it was without you 2 guys. You've established a pretty high bar to beat next year and we have the utmost confidence that it will be a memorable time. You guys are the best.

FYI, the Central PA region had this aerial photo on the site. Clearly shows the 914
row in the peoples' choice (2016). Click on it to show full size which is huge.
